Title: Woking Match Thread
Post by: wellingboroughALTY on August 13, 2015, 10:01:51 AM
My first live game of the season;

Not a ground I've ever seen us get so much as a point from in about 5 visits, hopefully that'll change this weekend. Travelling more in hope than expectation to be honest.

Woking 1-1 Alty, Reeves to score, (80 Alty fans)

My first miss of the season.....probably good for my blood pressure.

We lose 2-0 and the forum stays comparatively quiet since nothing better is expected.

My first game of season: Woking 1 Alty 0 - free header from corner.  we create nothing upfront.

I'll be winning flavour of the month with the family by travelling up from our summer retreat in Weymouth. Alty kick start the season as we go back to basics

Dens--leather---Marshell----Griff
---------------Griffith
-------Moult---Richman---Clee
----------------Reeves-----Rankine

Back to basics how basic do you want us Pete we play 4 4 2 can't see us getting anything but things may improve if we play a different formation and at least one of clee and richman are fit

We should lose 4-0.

However, we will win 0-1 with a header from a corner.

3 - 1 to the alty with the customary goal conceded at the corner with sinnot playing a blinder and moult grabbing a hatrick

I have a feeling we will all be Woking up on Sunday morning with still no points on the board.

I'd love us to play the team Figgy Pudding put on this thread, as it's probably the best we've got at the moment. However, 2 up front at Woking will lead to a heavy defeat. I'd probably play Lawrie behind either Reevesy or Rankine (dropping either would be very harsh, but necessary until we manage to get another half decent midfielder. A back to basics 451, with Nicky and Si back could land us an unexpected point - one we almost got last year at Woking.

Nearest game to me these days, never my favourite day out, very mediocre town and pubs, can't recall getting a decent result there apart from once when I was In Spain. Horrible away support area along the side, weird teenage wannabee Green Street kids stay behind the covered goal terrace when teams change. I can't make it this year and I don't give a monkeys. I expect nothing good.

Will our season effectively be Dover by teatime the following Saturday? ???

It's a difficult start, no one could reasonably argue against that, but we do need to get something on the board very soon otherwise despondency drops in and getting back is so hard. We need at least a goal and a point pdq.

"Scorer for Altrincham in the 90th minute, number 9 Colin Little"

Something along those lines, and that result

Absolutely quality that goal. Putting one of the leagues most consistent CBs on their arse with absolute ease and slotting it past the keeper to win the game and sen the fans into raptures. Amazing. One of the most dominant performances in the last 6 or 7 years. We were completely camped on the halfway line and Youngy was at his towering best. I thoroughly enjoyed that trip to Woking, despite having glandular fever at the time.

Assuming Richman is not available this is how I think we'll start

                      Coburn

Densmore  Leather Marshall  Griffin

                      Griffith

Lawirie    Moult    O'Keefe     Clee

                      Rankine

Not saying this is my selection and I really hope Richman is available.

Some interesting selections on here. Can't see any of them happening though. Griffith hasn't kicked a ball yet so he won't be a starter. And Sinnott almost certainly will be.

My first game of the season.

Alty will be gash, Woking will be gash, the weather will be gash.

I can't wait!

First time I've seen us since Braintree at the end of last season. Be nice to judge with my own eyes after all the doom and gloom merchants on here.

Must be the ground after Moss Lane I've seen us play the most on, about 8th time tomorrow. Woking is not the greatest town we visit for good pubs but if you know where to look it's ok, plus it's very quick back to London after. I thought their bar had slipped a bit last season with no Cardinal Gold from the heydays of the mid-noughties. Chav kids behind the goal on the WUM standard for your southern Conference away grounds.

Looking forward to a decent day out anyway with the lads, come on Alty!

Knowing what Alty are like I will predict an Alty win by the odd goal
Optimistic? Ohh Yes...
I'm just hoping the manager changes the formation/players somewhat
All you folks who are going, Have a great day in the sunshine

442 again should see us well beaten - hope I'm wrong. Still got the worst two wingers in our history, so God knows where the strikers are going to get their goals from - again hope I'm wrong. Glad to see Simon back in the middle though. Agree with Romeo that Reevesy always seems to come back stronger after a break. Let's see...

Ha ha ha time for a change after two games? I reckon he must have a bit of a clue, he got us back in the conference and then kept us here comfortably last season.

Worst two wingers in our history? Who would that be we've only got two wingers in the squad and neither of them in a he fist xi today. Also surely there isn't a player worse than Smikle in the current squad.

Was referring to Sinnott and Lawrie (though I believe Sinnott is playing down the centre today, not that it will make a blind bit of difference), so Si out wide. I think you'll find O'Keefe will turn out to be a worse signing than Smikle (if that's possible) - at least as bad. Nicky coming on for one of our strikers should help a bit, now 451

Won't be comfy this season and will be lucky to stay up and it's 3 games his team selection is diabolical this league is a lot harder than the north another couple of games like this then them upstairs won't be happy

It's the same at the start of every season. Clee doesn't play and Reeves gets dropped for some reason. LS needs to man up a bit here, go back to 451, reeves up front, Lawrie or Crowther on right, Clee on left.

It's Groundhog Day and it's tedious.

Also, only Rankine is an upgrade on the players released and I'm worried we're carrying a couple (Griffith?)

Rankine looks to be best the signings but if he plays a the 1 upfront then Reeves is benched and we can't play 4-4-2.

So our  best summer signing shouldn't  start!

That's it in a nutshell! Rankine and possibly Bowerman are our best, if not our only worthwhile summer signings and we're not good enough to play 2 up front!!! What a cock up!
