Title: Abbey Hey v Altrincham Match Thread
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on July 06, 2015, 09:03:39 AM
70 or so days since we finished off at Braintree and here we are again. Are many going? I may venture across work pending, as hopefully we may see some trialists involved.

Did the game happen? Did anyone play in it? Did anyone go? Did anyone score? Did anyone win? Did anyone lose?

You should rename your profile Archbishop of Banterbury :-)

I may yet make it to this game, and commence my own pre-season training.

I did that in 1988. The medical ramifications were so hideous that I didn't sit on my bike again for about five years. One word of advice - gel seat.......

It's about 65 or 67 I believe.  Will be the first time I have done it.  I am riding for The Christie if anyone fancies sponsoring me  ;D

Good luck to you. My advice (other than the gel seat) would be to ride at a steady pace. Freewheel when you're going downhill, and don't get into pissing contests with the flash types riding three times faster than you! On certain parts of the route (downhill, country roads) I did get a real feeling of well-being - I think it's probably important to enjoy these when it happens (take in the scenery, sniff the air and all that), as there will be some painful stretches. I recall the road into Blackpool being a succession of hills and valleys. I recall grunting to the tops of hill to be met with a view of another one in the distance.

Personally I dislike the gel seats - used one once and never again.  Apart from that eightiesrobin is bang on for me.  I like the energy bars and gels, they give me a boost when the goings hard work.

Really really good luck with it.

It could be this former Burnley character (slightly different spelling)?

Jordan Deacey?  We've mentioned him before, haven't we?  Is he the lad that had the bust-up with Kitterick at Telford?

If he's half as good as the last striker who came our way after falling out with SK, we may be onto a good thing there!  :)

We haven't signed him up, so I assume he's "on trial". I can't comment on how he played last night (for all that you can judge a player in an early pre-season fixture where nobody apparently pulled up any trees), but if we do sign him I just hope it's for the right reasons and you can't say it any fairer than that.

Think Jordan Deacey is an attacking midfielder

Why we normally beat them by about 5 goals in pre season that's not me being worried

But why give someone a trial who you know is poor

I was as surprised as anyone to see that he featured last night. Like I said, if we are going to sign him, I just hope it's because he's shown a vast improvement that warrants a place in our squad and not any other reason.

Could have been 6-1/7-2 on another night, I'm not bothered about personel, line ups, formations or results until port vale on 1st Aug when you'd like to hope the squad was settled and ready but without giving too much away to FGR.

Thought most of the trialists and da yoot offered something last night

Yep we'd cover each of the 3 key qualities in each of our 3 forwards if we took him up - finishing, target man, and as you say - pace.

One day we might have the resources to sign someone with all 3 built in together!

Raheem Sterling only fulfils one of the above criteria and he is "valued" at £50m, so I'd hate to think how much a player fulfilling all three would cost.   :D

Jordan Deacey is a fast attacking midfielder who always gave our defence problems when he came up against us for BPA - would be a very useful addition imo. I have absolutely nothing against Jordan Sinnott, other than that he simply isn't good enough to play Conference National football - hopefully common sense will prevail. Having said that, I don't see any problem with him training with us in order to stay fit if he is a free agent. The other triallists, I don't know, although a Chester-supporting mate of mine says Jayden Hall is pretty fast.

Just because it was far too short a price for a team that was always going to field trialists and youngsters.

Really really good luck with it.

Thanks for the support chaps, we made the distance in just short of 4 hours (3:45) and averaged around 16.4mph which I was ecstatic with if I'm honest!  It did appear to be entirely uphill though, perhaps it is a Penrose staircase?

The headwinds coming into Lytham were indeed relentless!  Average speed dropped considerably during the last 10 miles :)
