Title: Macclesfield FA Trophy - Match Thread
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on December 07, 2014, 12:34:34 AM
It was always going to happen after waiting 20 years to play them wasn't it. Macc travelling to Aldershot for a game on Wednesday, whilst we have a free week. Hopefully they will rest a few on Saturday with them being genuinely in the hunt for promotion

Alty 2-1 Macclesfield

Worth noting incidentally that the Third Round of the FAT is on 24 Jan 2015. So, whoever wins next Saturday, unless they then get knocked out in the following round we will not be playing at Macc that day and it will be a Tuesday later in the season. Which would be a pain.

I have heard Macc have told the club there fans don't take this one serious so don't expect many to travel

Quite. I imagine the 123 years they spent in Non League football before the short interregnum of finishing 18th in the 4th tier for 10 years running means that they are now far too big to be arsed with the Trophy.

According to their fans forum they are taking it very seriously

They won the first one, for heavens sake.  Do they have no respect for their own history?

On the other hand, if they field a weakened team, it will be like playing a team from a lower league.  Oh dear!

If they have any respect for history and tradition they will play a full strength team to get the bragging rights against their biggest rivals.

Our match on Sunday 4th Jan at Eastleigh is still on after Scouseport won in the FA cup today - weather permitting it will at least hopefully it will avoid a Tuesday night trip to south Hampshire.

Still, that's a tough way to end to a run of 4 games in 9 days.  On a brighter note, my non-refundable Travelodge booking will get used.....

It's a shame the match was in doubt. A few months back you could get a return flight there for £80, it's double that now.

This really could be the game which defines Lee Sinnott at Alty

Another trophy no show will not be tolerated for this one

It's an odd one as we are playing a good side from our league and I am far more confident about this than if we were playing a lower side. Too often as a support base though the current squad and management have cheated us in the cups.  They  simply must turn up on Saturday. Financially our appalling cup record must be massively detrimental for the club as well. For a team that has beaten Macc, Bristol Rovers and Halifax  this season when will the penny drop in the cups?

Alty win in a very scrappy affair, red card each.

I think we'll win this one 2-0.

We are very miserly at the back. Can't see us playing as badly as last time out and also can't see a winning goal like that again.

Let's see - enjoy the game.

Really?  If we lose (and I hope we dont) to lose to a team which is 2nd in the league as hardly grounds for definition of a managers reign

Whilst non of us ( well no one I know ) are buying this Macc players playing for 50p and their petrol money, got to give full credit to Askey for doing a decent job to have them up there.

Will be a tough one but if we do what we can then no reason why we can't win it at our place.

They will be keen for revenge after the Lawrie belter ( just watched it again, glorious ) but I reckon Reevesie is due one.

Both teams playing well, so should be a good one. Thought they'd beat us 3 0 last time, so not daft enough to predict this one. I think we probably have to win tomorrow to go through though, as I really don't fancy our chances at their place.

I'd much rather we won at their place in the league game than tomorrow in the cup.

I'd much, much rather we won them both!  :D

I agree, past all the bullsh*t they're no fgr/Eastleigh but I do think a few other teams in our league have bought
It hook line and sinker and underestimated them. We don't purely
By dint of them being local rivals

I presume Barnes homer isn't cup tied so it'll be tough and we could do with
getting the job done at home. I agree with Sybil that I'd be asking questions
if we get a Halifax 2-5 trophy debacle but a leek Blyth no show isn't really applicable
here. I'd like some form of encouragement we'll win cup games

Edit: new phone so apologies for odd sentence structure

hope he has an off day, reading that record for results since his arrival makes me wonder where are our loan signings from local league clubs? not wanting to start a "the manager hasnt a clue" thing but i do wonder.

anyway tomorrow is a day for heroes, time to stand up and write your name in the history of this club and be talked about for years to come.

To be fair you look no worse than the other sides up the top who we have played apart from Barnet and Woking who we probably got them on a good day anyway thanks
