I refuse to even think about this at this stage - one great big potential banana skin to avoid first.

A potential banana skin? Do you mean a banana?

Yes, surely it's inherent in it's actual being.

Unless you mean it becomes only a skin. Can you slip on an actual banana? Probably.

13 or 35 at home please. Both won the competition in the last 30 years so a decent chance of being on tv earning the club a few quid and still a chance of an upset.

quick question...if we get a major club that attracts that TV camera's and we are at home, do we keep all the TV money or share it with the visiting club? Likewise I guess, if we are away we may/may not receive a share of TV revenues

Just curious

Its shared the home club get a bigger slice of the pot and all gates receipts are shared after expensives have been deducted.

We did buck that trend slightly against Braintree, fortunately, so there is hope.   :)

Do we want a big pay away day such as Sheff Utd/Coventry/Portsmouth or a home tie we SHOULD win?

Given our recent record in the Fa cup id be tempted to say a big tie round one but id love to progress further!

Personally I want a home tie against the weakest team left in the competition; I don't believe there are any guaranteed 'big pay away days' these days as people even at League 1/2 level get choosy about attending cup-ties; if we end up with a League club away I'd like it to be somewhere we haven't been before, which rules out Sheff Utd, and is a feasible day trip; but I fear that we'll get something like Woking or Barnet away. Hope I'm wrong about that ...
Title: Re: Number 52 at home please

A home tie please against anyone, preferably a weaker team.

I don't want a lot but reaching the third round and getting Man United way has to happen otherwise I will be calling for Sinnout to depart.
Title: Re: Number 52 at home please
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on October 27, 2014, 12:09:00 PM
There's more money to be made going as far as possible by knocking out weaker sides than having a day out at portsmouth etc i think we will draw Barnsley or East Thurrock United. But if we had a choice I'd hope for the lowest ranked side at home, and that goes for every round
Title: Re: Number 52 at home please

Just a quick point for those who may look for train tickets etc this evening if we are drawn away as usual

"In a first for FA Cup coverage, the BBC will be giving extra prominence to the early rounds of the competition, placing lower league clubs in the spotlight. In the first and second rounds there will be eight matches moved to a new Sunday slot at 2pm, as part of an interactive Final Score, with goals and key moments shown to the BBC One audience as they happen."

We've played most of League 2 in the recent past as Ex Conference sides and of the L1 big boys-Sheffield, Cov,  Bristol City-yeah they'd be alright days out but I'd hardly be jumping for Joy. Give me the worst possible side at home and balls to the rest.

Take out the passionate Geordie factor and I think it's a decent draw if we had to be away as FA rules state.

As with Barwell, could have been a lot worse.
Title: Re: Number 52 at home please
Post by: Ballers on October 27, 2014, 07:32:50 PM
When only 4 balls were left Blyth were the middle option. FGR home or away would've been dire. Needless to say it was the club backed by a millionaire who got the league club at home.

But it's not bad, if you're not getting a plum tie then there were far worse ones than that I guess. A lower ranked side, have to be on our bloody mettle though, big style.

I know what you mean....I was still shouting NO very loudly after we were drawn out. The wife had to leave the room (already annoyed with me that my fiftieth birthday celebration holiday over to the UK was dependent upon an FA Cup draw).

Sure it'll be a mad Geordie bear pit but they are just above the relegation zone in the Evo Stik Premier. If we do our jobs properly this is a game we *should* win as we did at Barwell. I think we can be cautiously optimistic.

It looked nailed on we'd be pulled out with FGR when down to those final few balls. We've just got to be professional. It'll be a hostile atmosphere but Blyth should hopefully be sensible enough to segregate the fixture. We had a good 200 at barwell on Saturday and I can see more going to blyth with it being 1st round. We need to get up there in numbers and get behind them, we have been handed a decent tie all said and done and are just two good performances from a potential lottery win. All though the latter had external revenue. An fa cup tie against Manchester United has seen Burton Exeter and Crawley into the football league. We can win this game, and a bit of luck in round two and who knows. Anyway, on the shelf for now, time to think about getting maximum points from alfreton

Great draw. 1st round great, but 2nd round and just 90 mins away from 3rd round draw is a great feeling. A lesser non league team home or away gives us best shot at that, and also increases chances of a tv game - tv games always likely to be non league at home to league and with only a dozen or so non league teams likely to make round 2, who knows.
Title: Re: Number 52 at home please
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on October 28, 2014, 11:01:14 AM
Being only six all non league ties including our own we'd have to be lucky to pull out a nonleague side in round two should we be fortunate enough to get there. Arguably the winners of Basingstoke/Harrow B. v Spennymoor T/AFC Telford Utd or Bromley v Dartford at home would be best unless anyone causes a shock. Failing that the winners of hartlepool v East Thurrock at home

Having been around for a fair while, F.A.Cup means one game @ a time. So far £12,500 Prize Money. Next another away tie v. my one wish, a lower placed team, Potential £18,000 Prize Money. That's as far as I go to the end of the match @ Blyth Spartans, THEN THE DREAMS BEGIN AGAIN. i am luckier than most I've seen all the 3rd Round ties & replays but there was no prize money then. ROLL ON ALFRETON TOWN.

For those going by train, depending on how much of a day you want to make of it, you should base yourself around Whitley Bay I reckon. You certainly don't want to be spending much time around Blyth, and you might just get a pleasant day at the seaside!

There is a train from Victoria just before 9am, getting into Newcastle at 11:30ish.  Jump on the Metro to Whitley Bay, and that should see you in the pub by lunchtime.

A cab ride from there to the ground would be roughly 15 mins or so along the coastal road I reckon. Get a cab back into Whitley Bay at FT.

Return train tickets currently around £45, with a few return trains to choose from (depending on how much sticking around and drinking you want to do)

There's a fairly fast bus from Newcastle Haymarket bus station, a better option than train to Cramlington I'd have thought.

This is is Alty - if you're getting the Metro to The Coast it's got to be Tynemouth darling

Spot on sir.....marvellous place......we had a thoroughly salubrious stay there between the Macclesfield & Halifax games & planning something similar next week.
