Title: The Question Is
Post by: robininstockport on October 01, 2014, 04:04:44 PM
Had Cavanagh and Marshall been available what would our starting 11 have been?

I'm certain it would not have been as it was.

Don't change a winning team.  Back 4 very solid and moult played well in the middle

The team for Saturday picks itself, unchanged.

Why? As long as Lee gets the same application fronts players we'll be fine. If it all goes tits up/somebody is playing awfully, Cav can come off the bench. If everyone from Tuesday is fit then they deserve their chance to start again IMHO.

Agreed - would be hard (bordering on impossible for me) to justify dropping any of Moult, Richman, Williams or Lawrie (played in his best position) based on Tuesday.

For me, if he REALLY wanted to freshen something up without changing the dynamic of the team too much, would be to give Crowther a go from the start and rest a slightly out-of-sorts Nicky (i.e. as they finished on Tuesday).

I agree. The only change for me would be Crowther for Clee. Clee's not looked himself in recent matches and it'll be good for Crow to get a start after his illness. Other than that keep it the same  :)

What happened on Tuesday was that Lee finally abandoned 4 4 2. James Lawrie is not an out and out striker, he plays behind the target man, just in front of two holding midfielders. For me that's the way forward in this league. It's not always pretty to watch, but it provides more protection for the midfield. In the same way, Simon is not a real winger, so he tends to drop back into midfield easily. We matched Macc in midfield on Tuesday, and I don't think that was a coincidence.
That being the case, there should be no reason why Cav can't slot back into midfield, or Ryan chosen ahead of Nicky - just as long as we don't go back to the gung ho approach, or we'll get battered in the next two games. I still think we should be looking at a new keeper and another pacey option up front.
