I know we've not played them for 24 years, but where has he got the idea we are dour/defensive? And what's more the last time we played them/T**tted them, we played with flying wingers?

Let's turn them over come Alti
-
Well our tactic on Saturday is going to be park the bus and lump it up to Perry and hope Reeves latches on to the flick-ons, isn't it?
-
Don't then
-
Got that game on DVD somewhere must seek it out. Them were the days they were. Not quite 79-82 but not far off.

Corrected for you mate :-)

Who did play on the right in that season?
I know Showler used to swop when he got bored of terrorising one full back but who was supposed to do that side?
-
As I remember it, Nicky Daws tended to play slightly on the right side of midfield and John Brady favoured the right side of the attack but we didn't have a right winger as such.
-
I remember a fellow Alty fan telling me he turned up at Barnets first Football League match the following season and was shocked to see Paul Showler in the Barnet side.
They lost 4-7 to Crewe if I remember correctly

I seem to recall these 3 standing behind the goal on the North Terrace dressed like extras from the Happy Monday's. At half time our subs were practicing and one of them (Geoff Cooper?) took a shot which smashed the cup of coffee one of them was holding, covering them from head to toe much to the amusement of everyone. We didn't hear a word from them in the second half.
One of the funniest footballing moments I have ever seen.

Did we really only take that few to Barnet? Seems pretty low even if they are exaggerating

It's absolute garbage.....no idea how many we took but we had just signed McKenna, Showler & Brady & had not conceded a goal in our opening 3 games.

-

Think it was Jimmy that got soaked if I remember correctly

I was there with another 3 so we're up to 9 now. This is getting to be like "I saw the sex pistols at the free trade hall in 1976".

Brian,
I think that you (and some of the other chaps on here) are talking about the wrong game!
I believe that the 1990 match under discussion on that Barnet Forum thread is this one from the preceding season:
Saturday, 28th April 1990
GMVC
Barnet...1 Altrincham...0
-
If that was the game no brew went over me because I wasn't there
-
In all likelihood, that is correct, on the assumption that the comment relates to the comment immediately preceding it.
Whether it was either of those games, the comment that we had 3 there is completely incorrect.
-

It sounds like the Barnet fans may be mixing up the 2 games as well & it appears that it was the 0-0 draw at the start of the 1990/91 season.
The confusion is understandable, there were only about 4/5 competitive games between the 2 fixtures.
