Title: Top tips for social media in football
Post by: Ashley Alty on January 15, 2014, 12:52:58 PM
Just spotted this, might be useful to our lot?

From Football Business a couple of issues ago, following ‘Top Tips’ about social Media which was compiled by Richard Berry, associate in the Sports Group at Law firm Lewis Silkin who shared thiis advice to help football clubs avoid a social media crisis.

1)    Don’t Ignore it: Social Media is part of modern football. An outright social media ban is one option but many clubs recognise that Twitter and Facebook are useful ways for fans to connect with players on a level never before possible. It can also enhance the reputations and profiles of clubs, players, and sponsors.
2)    Educate your players: Get input on how they use social media and where they think the boundaries of acceptable conduct lie. Players need to know what consequences their actions might have and understand the risks. Teach your players and staff the value of social media, how to use it, and what is not acceptable.
3)    Develop a robust social media policy: Set out the consequences for a breach of the rules. Get buy-in from the players and other staff because a code of conduct is much more powerful if it is drawn up in collaboration rather than being imposed.
4)    Have a social media adviser: There should be someone players and staff can turn to for advice on a tweet and to answer any questions.
5)    In a crisis, rely on your social media policy: Take quick and decisive disciplinary action.

I live near enough to apply for the position - sadly my twitter. / Facebook etc knowledge is sadly lacking.

Perhaps AFC Teresa could apply for the job, the club would then be advertising for a translator.   ;)

Our players are excellent on Twitter, I feel. Hardly ever anything controversial and they all come across as a very friendly bunch of lads. The same can't be said for some players of other teams, or certain player managers for that matter.
