Title: Altrincham v Northwich 1874
Post by: Brian Flynn on October 09, 2013, 11:03:47 AM
From the main website:-

With no league or cup fixture this Saturday, Altrincham FC have arranged a friendly game at the J. Davidson Stadium, Moss Lane, kicking off at 2pm. The opposition will be Northwich 1874, the club set up under the banner of the Northwich Victoria Supporters' Trust, in 2012. For the current season the club is playing in the North West Counties League, First Division, with their home fixtures taking place at Winsford United's Barton Stadium.

Admission to all areas of the ground this Saturday will be £5 for adults, £3 for concessionaries and there will be free entry for under-12s.

I always thought that it was a lovely and touching gesture by this latest Northwich incarnation to pay tribute to our very own George Heslop by including the year of his birth in the name of their club.

What a pleasure it is to be back, hope you chaps and chappesses aren't too vitriolic on Saturday, we are trying to move away from all that, but no doubt there will be a few on both sides that will remind each other of old wounds. Hope it's a good game but whatever happens, good luck for the season, you seem to be there or thereabouts again.

PS it's 1874 Northwich, not Northwich 1874 ;)

We don't sing and dance and friendlies, you're thinking of FC United,  so I wouldn't come fired up for a derby atmosphere!

Jezza now we are free of Rushe pity and good wishes are fine.
We might not have a brilliant team and be in a low league but we pay for things and have a bit of credibility back.
Might even get in the Alty bar for a couple before the game.

I don't think it will be as season tickets are advertised as free entry to pre season friendlies so this might not count.

It's usually £7 for the pre season games so a fiver in seems fair enough and will provide a much needed boost to the coffers if we can get 300-400 in.

I could be wrong of course, I often am.

Yes won 2-1.

Decent enough game for a friendly against a spirited and well organised Northwich side.  There seemed well up for it as you would expect.

We created a lot of chances that were blocked or just wide in the second half.

No injuries on the surface of things and probably a better workout than training.

A relaxed afternoon.

*Season ticket holders got in free

Meanwhile, I'm bewildered as to why we are persisiting with Smikle, who treated us to another 45 unimpressive minutes this afternoon.

our keeper looked assured

first two goals of the game to make it 1-1 were both great strikes....

in fairness perry had a good game and should have had a hat trick, one goal disgracefully disallowed.....but he does appear to be on the Michael twiss diet and wtf is that beard all about???....I'd still start with reeves walshaw and lawrie ahead of him...

lawrie again very creative

if smikle can't dazzle against that level of opposition....well, he's had his chance as far as I can see...really is comical seeing him advance two or three paces and then knock it back.....

liked the look of the central defender who came on

1874 fans came out of administration at half time when a fan finally paid the remaining owing 2p on a cup of coffee previously described as 98% paid for

there was also a dog in attendance chasing a lucozade bottle up and down the terracing which was very entertaining.

Mark,
Are you having a laugh. Apart from losing £4500 at Trafford and other potential income from the Cup, they have last year's FA Cup money, FA Cup TV money, Duncan Watmore money and other usual sources of income ( advertising/ season ticket sales etc.). I don't think they spent all that much in close season. Perhaps the Chairman, who is pretty quick at coming on here to ask for money, could  come on here and  tell us what has happened to the monies mentioned, or what he intends to do with them. >:( >:(

Can this forum please stop having a go at the board for the FA Cup result. I'm pretty sure they were angry more than anyone else a fortnight ago. As I said after the Trafford game,I would be quite confident a lot of last years cup money went to bolstering the team, which has got us in the title race after September, which we've not done the previous 2 years.

If we fail to get promoted without doubt questions need to be asked.  I hope though they are asked in 4 years time when people are distruntaled finishing 15th in skrill premier

The players/management lost a football match, should we make sure that we hit "the club" in the pocket further just to really show them?

My guess is that if on Thursday "the club" offered a free friendly as an apology for going out of the cup it would have got a response of "a free friendly??? :( :( :(, we don't want an f'in free friendly, we want to be going to Corby"

The game was arranged for the team I would guess, you could come along if you want.  Some did and quite enjoyed it, most didn't and did what they were planning to do anyway.  No big deal either way.

Fiver seemed pretty fair to me.

As for the "we've got loads of money so don't need to fundraise" attitude, don't know where to start with that.

My worry is that if we have apathy or an attitude that is almost anti fund raising it will eventually send us back to the begging bowls anyway so you might be outraged every week when asked to help.

And yes my sleeping pattern is up the wall!

Why Mr Dissent?.....a good opportunity to see some fringe players, see exactly what level the new northwich are at, I had nought to do yesterday and may as well have spent the fiver at alty as opposed to ice skating or something...and I rarely get Saturday's off.

the only thing I was disappointed at was that lee did not use the opportunity to have another look at the 3 at the back formation and give the players more chance to get used to that system.......moss lane erupted when the winner went in as well!!!  ;D

Id start with this on sat - same formaton as yesterday/last weekend 2nd half.

It allows more of a fluid style, Rodgers doesnt need to be forced to hit long balls, Bosh can drop and dictate play whilst richman and lawire provide legs.

             Coburn

  Rodgers Haven Leather

 Dens Richman Boshell  clee

           Lawrie

It suits Sinnotts aim to play whilst keeping it solid

, its similar to Chesters last season where they could switch between a solid defensive unit without losing creativity.

If this is what play more often we need 2 CB's to come in

Shame we didn't get to see him defend really as we were well on top at the point and just attacking.

In terms of looks though he looked like a mountain (in a non fat way), certainly has the stature of his play can match it.

Probably not the same guy...........there are apparantly two Adam Cowan NZ centre halfs........one who is 32 and has been about a bit. I reckon we have the other one.........but looked handy against 1874

Where has he played before ?

Played for teams in the top New Zealand division, also apparently in the US somewhere.

Probably not the same guy...........there are apparantly two Adam Cowan NZ centre halfs........one who is 32 and has been about a bit. I reckon we have the other one.........but looked handy against 1874

It is indeed the same one, though I was initially bamboozled by the preponderance of New Zealand centre backs with similar names.

This guy has turned out for a team called Canterbury United I believe.
