I can't believe the news won't get to see another season at Alty in shock really

My memories of Keith ( I know others will have a lot earlier ones than me) was of him serving me hot vimto at the old snack hut which is now the family stand

A lovely man totally dedicated to the club and was always smiling and never seemed unhappy

Worked tirelessly for this club and I will miss saying hello to him and chatting and his friendly service in the snack bar

Can't believe you were only saying at Brackley how you were looking past the disappointment and to next season

Rest in peace I hope it's red and white up there

What a great man Keith was. Totally dedicated to Altrincham FC and the local community including Altrincham Festival amongst numerous others. He will be sadly missed and Moss Lane won't be the same without him around now, condolences to his family and friends and Dawn in the snack bar.

Terrible shock this, completely unexpected, a lovely guy and a wonderful supporter and volunteer for the club for so many years.

I was only chatting to him the other day and arranging to meet him to discuss the catering facilities.

RIP Keith.

Keith R.I.P.  iT WILL HIT ME EVERY HOME MATCH, WHEN HE WOULD PICK ME UP @ 9.00 a.m. So I could open up & we could both go about our jobs, preparing for the match. A vital cog has dropped out of the machine @ Moss Lane. GONE BUT NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN.
Title: Re: RIP Keith Davey
Post by: bumble on June 12, 2013, 07:50:52 PM
Keith was one of the first people I met when I started using TASC coaches.

Ill never forget when I finally saw Altrincham win away in the league, Sat at the front wit and y was him tim and Mr Steve Murray going to Abbey Hay and Keoth convincing our Steve we were off to Rhyl (Mr Murray had had one too many light bevarages that day)

I think what sums up Keith is the conversation ive just had with Mark in that he used to take the of Ecky to games when he was 14, and even tbis season drove to Mossley and Skelmsdale

I remember having lunch with my dad in 1977 - who knew Keith well - in Ware's Creamery in Hale.  Keith walked in - and I tried to enlist his help to convince my dad to allow me to go to the match at Scarborough that evening.  I was only 15 so this was not a trivial ask.  It was all going swimmingly until keith suggested the coach would not get back to Moss Lane until 1am.

No amount of cajoling would convince my dad to let me go after that.  We won 1-0 with jeff johnson scoring in the 86th minute.  Keith told me the following Saturday what a good match it had been.  The following year I went on the coach to a midweek match at Scarborough (we won 2-1 coming back from 1-0 down with 10 men after Barry Howard was unjustly sent off) and we got back way before midnight.

All of us will have these kinds of day to day memories of Keith - you put them together and get a devoted servant of the club, widely and deeply liked - and will be badly missed by all of us

A wonderful club man, the sort that are going and never to be replaced with the passing generations. Like so many others I've Known Keith a long time, and matchdays, infact moss lane itself will not be the same without him. So many years of unsung but very vital work on behalf of the club in roles to numerous to list fully, from kit man to doorman to catering manager to work party organiser. May you rest in peace Keith.

This is a shock, very very sad and a big loss to Altrincham FC.
I remember Keith from the 1970's and always found him to be a quiet, pleasant and very nice man.
He was definately an unsung hero over many decades at Alty.
God Bless Keith R.I.P.

Impossible to find the words to express how upset I am about this, I spoke to him for a long time before every game and he has always been so kind. You would never have found him without a smile, always happy even though he didn't stop working at the club.

Title: Re: RIP Keith Davey
Post by: markecky on June 12, 2013, 08:37:59 PM
I feel so so sad that Keith has gone,

When I was a youngster and painted the ground in my six weeks holidays aged 10 or so he would always be there, helping and making drinks for everyone.  In fact, Keith was always there whenever I went in the the club from those days to sorting the coaches.

When I was a bit older he'd give me a lift to Bill's (The Flying Scotsmans) house with Derek, Jack Rodgers ( or Brian Newhall if one couldn't make it) in his blue metro van.  Always smiling and positive on the way although not always on the way home but he'd certainly have a moan if the players hadn't performed and he'd let them know as well if he saw them.  However there was always the next game to put it right.

As Wayne said, I remember him serving from the original tea bar in the stand where the family stand is now.  He always seemed really high up...maybe I was just smaller then.

Some people outside of our club would never understand why someone would do what Keith did.  Hours and hours of his own time, his petrol, unsociable hours, cleaning the ground, going to the cash and carry, cooking the food, serving the food and probably loads of other stuff I never even saw.

We are blessed at our club to have few like him, these people are irreplaceable.  Gold dust.  They are the real club legends, part of the foundations of the club.  The fabric of the place.

I'd always make sure Keith got his seat at the front of the coach or on the front of the minibus as he said he felt a bit sick anywhere else. For me it was a respect thing, you respect people like Keith Davey for all that they do.

He'd always have a story of Swindells or an old player he never seemed to run out of them.

I can't believe he won't be around.

God bless you Keith.  A true gent, a grafter, a genuinley funny man and someone to look up to as a selfless individual x

I have had the pleasure of knowing Keith for nearly 40 years and he has been part of the fabric at our club since I first started watching.
I hope he is catching up with all the other Alty fans up there, including my dad who knew Keith well.
RIP Keith - you will be sorely missed.

Very sad. I think Ecky has summed up what I feel. I don't really know how to put it. As a ballboy at the Chequers end Keith was always there serving us vimto (or a cup of tea to take to Jeff Wealands to drink in between stretches/saves/sit ups/press ups etc).

A lovely, lovely man, Alty to the core.

Re-united with a big mate of his from years back, Martyn Tomlinson. I don't know what heaven is like but I know the catering is sorted!

RIP Keith, we'll miss you terribly.

I honestly believe that if Keith cut himself shaving he would have bled red and white stripes.

Mention every player you care to......but Keith Davey was truly an Alty legend.

Please can we dedicate the away end snack bar to him ? A memorial he would have cherished and which would be a fitting tribute to one very special guy !

I'm also very upset to hear the sad news about Keith.

Over the years, whilst I have been helping at the club, I have grown to have a genuine respect for Keith. He was always kind, and friendly to me, and you always felt he was genuinely pleased to see you.

Keith spent many hours at the club, not just doing all the preparation for the catering that he so expertly ran for the club, but also assisting doing less glamorous jobs like ground maintenance with the chairman, and our other helpers. I remember well a couple of years ago him spending many hours trying to ensure that the toilets at the away end worked after a particularly cold spell, so that we could get the home game over Christmas V Wrexham on.

He didn't tend to tell people this, but not only did Keith work so hard for the club, but he also used to spend his Christmases working at the homeless centre ensuring that the homeless would get a decent meal.

He is someone that I am sure all of the staff, volunteers and many of the fans of the club will all call a friend, and I am sure he will be missed by so many!

Thanks for everything Keith!

Post by: TJ on June 13, 2013, 02:51:42 PM
I am totally devastated at this loss!

I would go and visit Keith in his home as often as I physically could, because he lived less than 30 seconds away from my house!

We would sit for hours, sometimes untill the early hours of the morning, just chatting, watching TV and having a good old laugh! Discussing how my team (Coventry) were doing in the league, and constantly chatting/reminiscing about Alty FC and the great times we have spent there.

I will never forget how kind he has been to me since I met him for the first time when I first came to Moss Lane, and I have never been able to thank him enough for the things he has done for me over that time. He has been a pure inspiration in my life and a very true friend...It just won't be the same having him around anymore to give me my usual sausage butty and a brew when I came to matches straight from College.

One of my favourite memories would be when Keith had his first stewarding experience with me at Stockport County fc, (although he didn't plan to) And I will never forget them offering to pay him, and he refused the money because he wanted to do it purely to help them out, something which he has done for others for a very long time! a definite sign that he had  heart of Gold!

He has been like my Mentor, constantly giving me life advice, and he was one of the first people I told about my vocation to the priesthood, which he has always supported me with, and he was always the pillar that I could lean on when I had any problems I needed to talk about.

R.I.P Keith, I am constantly praying for you, but I know you're in heaven, there's no other place you could possibly be! Thank you for all the memories, you will constantly remain a true friend, and I will never forget you for as long as I live!!
Missing you like mad!

What about perhaps naming maybe the snack bars after him? Perhaps call them "Davey's"...or "Keith's"?

Or maybe have a plaque on the wall near his snack bar in his memory?

It's only right to honour him in the right way considering the incredible ammount of effort he has put into the club purely out of his love for the club and for no financial gain!

I still can't take it in :/  :'(

I am devestated. I only found out today via the club website...............

I first met Keith when I was 6 years old, I fell over by the old snack bar looking for my Dad whom I'd lost and was crying. Keith came out and calmed me down by giving me a warm Hot Vimto and helped me find my Dad. This was the start of a lifelong friendship which has lasted 27 years. The man influenced my life on so many levels its untrue.

I'm addicted to Vimto because that first ever one he gave me was amazing.
We used to go to away matches together, the Spurs game being a memorable one because his Lada broke down three time on the way lol
He used to drive me to Northwich Victoria (Boooo) every Thursday evening for training and to the games on a Sunday when I was in the youth team.
He drove me down to Bristol Rovers for my trial with them.
We started Line Dancing together to help me lose weight when a manager said I was to fat!!! Needless to say I am still fat and he went on to be a hell of a Line Dancer
He spent Christmas Day's with my family after he had cooked for the homeless people in Manchester centre
We went to America on holidays together.
He taught me to drive.
Was at my 18th and 21st birthdays.
I became a chef because his stories about cooking were so funny and through his guidence I went on to work at some of the worlds finest hotels in the world.
He was at my wedding and was there the day after the birth of my first son.

My biggest regret is that over the last few years we were not as close due to me living abroad and down south etc but we always had time for a phone call and a txt. Although we spoke a few times a year the last time I last saw him in person was at the Burton game which was the first time in 7 years and he was dishing out the sweets to fans like he always did.
Only last week we were speaking of Duncan going to Sunderland and the last txt I got of him was "David Moyes sed it was hard to leave everton!!! because his car was on effing bricks"

Keith was old school, a true gentleman, funny, kind hearted who would do anything for anyone and would ask nothing in return.
His commitment to Altrincham FC is second to none having done everything from clean the toilets to Kitman. He is in my eyes a true "Altrincham Legend"
I am honoured to have known him and to be part of his life and will miss him more than I can say.
The world is a worse place without him.

RIP Keith, Give Jackie Swindells a high five from me,

Love you mate

Just returned from a weeks holiday with no internet - very sad news

I only knew Keith from brief chats at away games and chats at the snack-bar during evening reserve matches. However it was obvious that he was a true gentleman. The vast amount of work he did at the club was so unselfish, so it came as no surprise to me to learn from this forum that he also cooked for the homeless of Manchester.

Great turnout for a great Club man

Brilliant to see another Alty Legend - Mark Maddox, despite his own issues, take the time to come and pay his respects

Alty = a proper club

I was sad I wasnt able to attend the funeral today as originally planned but I am so pleased to hear of the good turnout, fully deserved for a great guy who will be very sorely missed by us all. RIP Keith.

A great turnout for a great man.  I think he would have been a little surprised at how many came as he was so unassuming.

Everyone spoke well with such kind words, a fitting tribute to him.

RIP Keith, you'll be missed deeply x
