Title: Who will replace Duncan then?
Post by: PukkaPieman on May 25, 2013, 09:57:53 AM
At least Dunc going now gives LS time to find replacements. If you needed any proof what an impact he had just see the crude league only statistics below when he started or didn't start a game:

Dunc played  we won 63% of games and scored 2.7 goals per game
Dunc didnt play we won 40% of games and scored 1.8 goals per game
We failed to score 5 times last year, Dunc played in only 1 of them.
Dunc played 67% of points obtained
Dunc didnt play 51% of points obtained.

Conclusion,....we need someone to help create/score goals next season.

No-one will replace Duncan, simple as that. He was a unique talent.

Hopefully his replacement will be judged on his own merits.

It will be the combined talent of more than one player like in 2005 when crainey left and in came Eddie pottsy and col little

We definitely need a couple of forwards now but I'd be happy with Lawrie up front, I've always thought he's best when playing there.

Duncans not replaceable as we all know but I would be happy if we coulld sign a good part time striker capable of playing in the bsp

Duncan was a very special once a generation player, he cannot be replaced as such. What we need to do is maximise any windfall we may have from Duncan's move. Agree with Jimmy, your not going to do it with just one player. We are going to need 2 forwards coming in at least, another play maker also, to temper duncans link up and creativity. another mobile centre back also. We could Line up with two out and out wingers now duncan has departed but you've got to be strong and quick at the back if you play that way.

We will never be able to get any one who has that sort of skill .

This is where the manager will earn his corn now

If Sunderland have paid anything near what I think the should have for Watmore then the manager will have more than enough budget to win this league

I look on with interest over the coming months

This is exactly how the film Moneyball starts. Star player leaves and the coaches try and replace like for like. Instead they try to replace what the players gave them.

Instead of looking for a Duncan, we need somebody who will help created X number of chances and X number of goals - whether thats 1 player or 3.

This is the smartest comment you've made in yonks. Lee can't bring in someone like Brooke. We should be able to bring in 3 quality players.

There is no way it will be that up front, could get to that with appearances, England caps etc maybe.  That would still be an amazing deal for us for a Conference North player.

Yeah I am expecting it to be a rising fee based on his amount of appearances for the club, same happened with us when we sold Bent to Villa it was 17 million fee rising to 24 million.

Let me rephrase that!  A player at a Conference North club, as he is obviously far from a Conference North player!

Real name or not Jamie, 99% of your posts are inflammatory and unnecessary. If some one came up to you and said how nice the weather was today you'd not point out the fact it was a little cloudy at 3pm but you 100% would on here.

Your posts are negative and aggressive against people who have not done anything to deserve it and quite frankly how you haven't been blocked for a period of time by the admins I don't know. It's beyond a joke by now.

Please refrain from being a tool for a little while. It would make coming on here to read and partake in discussions much more enjoyable.

Bit harsh IMO Longsden

Nothing harsh in it if you ask me.

Jamie is antagonising and aggressive to people on here when, at a game, he would not say boo to a goose.

He's being an out and out aggressive prick on the forum and there's nothing more to be said about it. He thinks that because he has supported Alty for 15-20+ years he has the divine rite to spout whatever he wants and not expect argument. I've watched Alty since I was 6, known Jamie for 7 years and he's only started acting like a bellend for the last year and a bit. Thats not an opinion, its fact.

I can assure you that Jamie has acted like a bellend for far longer than the last 18 months :-) I've known him for 25+ years,I think there's no need to get personal while hiding behind a false name.

The most impressive opposition player I saw last year was Joe Wasile, who on the right wing ripped us apart at Moss Lane for Workington. He was on loan from Morecambe I think, but if we could get him in on some kind of deal we'd still have a seriously potent attack. Generally, it'll be interesting to see how things pan out over the next few weeks. I'm guessing Lee will be the most financially competitive Alty manager since Bernard in the Unibond winning year?

That's presuming most of the sunderland initial payment money is going on the playing budget ?

The crainey probably did go on the debt however I think a little was left over to attract quality like Eddie and pottsy it worked perfect crainey got us in the conf north and selling him got us the players to get promoted from it

Although i'd like to see a big hold up striker too i think lee will go for the pacey type as a priority, i think it compliments reeves best.

Maybe the possibility of a quality young player on loan would not be out of the question too.

HI JTH Agree with you entirely re Wasile or whatever his name is. There is a gap to fill in our club and he is perfect, our defence had trouble with him - fine player, but it's if Lee can or wants to get him.

Personally I have decided to let Lee's and Neil's judgement take over. The main thing is we have signed the players I wanted us to keep - I just did not see Duncan going yet, though I expected it to happen long term.  Agree with you 100pc about the above player though!!

Joe Mwasile, aged 19, has made 11 appearances for Morecambe since 2011. He also played 11 games for Workington last season scoring 4 goals.

I would be surprised if he were permanently available for transfer, but it might be worth bending Ken McKenna's ear.
