Leaves Bangor City, could be useful cover for Matt Doughty, should have signed years ago

The thing that annoyed everyone with Liam Brownhill was that he verbally agreed to sign for Alty 5 years ago then went back on his word for a few extra quid at Droylsden. Thanks but no thanks Liam,I believe theyre looking for players at The Butchers Arms...

Maybe so, but if as he says now he really wants to play for his hometown club, he would had joined then rather than going for the extra few quid. The fact that he has gone from England C international to playing in the Welsh Prem doesn't look good on his CV.

Here's the verdict from my Bangor City source:

"Brownhill is a skilful but stumpy one paced full back, who is creative in attack and a liability in defence.

He left Bangor because - after one year - we are out of Europe, so the budget has been cut.

He was the first to tweet goodbye and eye pasŁures new."

For the love of God. Is it 2008 again? If it is, not to worry because we've got a 2008 Matt Doughty who's by far the best left back we've had for a decade...

Come on folks.

Also agree with that. Personally i dont think we need a left sided player, as said before need a forward, two centre backs and right mid.

two centre backs?  Are you planning on dropping Havern or Leather or both?  I'd have thought one for competition for places / injury suspension etc and Carl as cover is enough?

If we have a top quality CB as cover though then Scotty Leather can play at LB. What do you think Jimmy? I know his best position isn't LB but has done a great job when been asked to play there.

I think the worry is cover for Clee rather than Doughty. We have no one that can comfortably fill in at left mid/wing.

i think buzz and clee need a back up, we cant have a bigger squad so the option is to get a player that can play both of which there arent many around, there is no harm in players wanting to play for us its refreshing tbh

I think Doughty can cover for Clee. As somebody mentioned earlier he is possibly the best crosser at the club and his attacking play is fantastic.

I'd say we need a left sided defender most can move forward to midfield anyway a centre half take a good player to get in need right sided midfielder more that to me is a weak position

Yes two, one to replace Danny hall of good quality and a squad player who could of course come from the youth team if any good enought, but yes I think we need two, I see Carl as cover as well but he may be needed to cover mid, imagine have run and bosh being injured at the same time for example.

Just to add that buzz is a very hard working tough player that i like and i can understand why he's rated on here, but if im honest then i have to say his lack of pace in games last season was exploited by many teams and i only really get to home games, so i wouldnt say he was one of our better players at all.

yes he is a city fan, he came to moss lane to watch us against oxford years back, he was impressed with the crowd more than anything, which may have come into play when going to fcum as they have decent support.

Im going to try and start the killers/densmore song when he scores ..... lets see how popular it is  ;D

That's good of him to consider Alty, a player that bar one season on parity has spent his whole career Playing at a lower level than we have been. I think the key in things like that is wether we considered him. I find it disrespectful to a player of the calibre of Matt Doughty to even have this discussion. Unibond league full backs are ten a penny, we have two seasoned conference left backs that have both played in the conference premier playoffs. The link play between buzz and nicky last season was exceptional, an almost telepathic understanding at times.

not really disrespectful as far as im concerned we were'nt quite good enough last season and as ive said i put that down to squad size and i know we have a limited budget no harm in considering other players from a lower level.

its not about brownhill now, its about if u think our left side is good enough and will stay fit enough to keep the balance of the team all season. i think we are at least a player short as i think we need back up on that side to kick on and get promoted

from what ive seen lawrie and leather are'nt any good on the left, walshaw is a striker, and williams is also a natural centre back so what i can see is no balance in the squad and a square peg round hole situation appearing, of course this is all ok unless you want to challenge for promotion

Don't forget that Kyle Perry can also play left side of midfield.

Williams is recognised as either a CB or LB and has been equally successful in either position

Is sam grimshaw still with us or is he out on loan? I'd like to see how he has developed.

I think we need the 1st XI improving before we look at cover.....the squad has improved over the close season making a far better subs bench.

So I'd still say we need a right winger, first choice centre half, and maybe a real quality midfielder..... in that order......at the moment I would put us as play off contenders...one of those signings would make the play offs likely....all 3 would make us challengers for the title.

this is about solid back up on the left, as clee seemed to get a few more knocks than normal last season and matt isnt getting any younger, if im honest i would say we are weakest there and get beaten for pace against the better sides yet going forward against sides like hinkley they look great

Nonsense argument Jacko. You're making him out to be a semi decent left back at the bottom of the Conf North. The football played last year was some of the best I've ever seen us play and the build up to the final goal at home to halifax last year involving glee, reeves and doughty was one of my favourite memories of last season.

It wasn't just down the left that we had problems against Brackley. If anything, due to not having a player that would stick to the right hand side, players got drawn across and then balls were pinged across the pitch to expose where players had moved from. The left side is the least of our worries right now.
