Title: Non Alty ~ ex - Witton Manager John Bond dies
Post by: York Alty on September 26, 2012, 06:23:34 PM
Heard about this at work, didn't know he had once been Wittons boss.

Certainly a character - a laid back man for a more laid back era.

Condolences to family and friends.

You have to wear a collar and tie!

A gentleman in the game although he had to work for Peter Swales

Good find Knutsford. That is great viewing.

Good ol' John Bond...

(loved the shorts the City players were wearing)

He could be found in William Hills in Shrewsbury (when he was the manager) around lunchtime on the day of a home game - RIP

It was when Man City were Man City.  Saw a few slaps outside the North Stand, visiting fans giving it large.  Lets be frank the area was pretty dodgy.

Helen "the bell" Turner was also another institution.

Used to go to City a few times a season throughout the 80s.  You can hear the bell on that clip.  It's not Alty but it was good.

Before I moved to Alty in '94 I lived in Redruth Street for 5 years a mere stones throw from City's ground. I occasionally got to the home games and remember the lady with the bell who sat behind the goal to the right of the Kippax.
I am fairly sure that she was also the resident flower seller who sat outside the Royal Eye Hospital on Gaskell Street.
