2-1 Alty Reeves, and that Italian sounding chap from Gorton
-
Alty 1 - 1 Brackley
First game of the season is always difficult against a newly promoted club.
Brackley score after 15 minutes to go one nil up and their fans do the easy clap and conga around the Chequers End.
Crowd - 894 (43 from Brackley including 20 wearing flat caps and the club dog).
-
Altrincham 2-0 Brackley
Densmore 27
Reeves 51
Att: 745 (41 away)
-
Alty win 1 nil in a nervous start reeves pen 34 minutes to the keepers right
802 fans
-
As I miss this one we'll probably win 4-1!
Alty 1-1. Reeves 87th min pen get an desrved point agianst an experienced Brackley team.
Attn - 820 (23 in away end)
MOM - Alty's left winger, Clee.

where is the dislike button?

Coming up with a couple of others from that London for this one so hoping we put on a show.
John Laidlar's report on the OS yesterday has got me worried though, Brackley have a lot of 'names' with all those ex R&D players and people who are experienced at the national level in their squad so it will be tough, plus the bounce that all newly promoted clubs seem to get in the opening weeks of the new season.
With all that in mind I can see this being a 1-1 with a gate of 876 and 30 away fans.
-
Totally odd build up to this one, with Brackley having no fans/fans forum, it's like a throw back to 15 years ago. Heart says win, head says draw. Its all about momentum so hopefully we can get a decent gate and get off to a winning start. I don't think are opening two games are particularly easy, but of we want to win the league, these are the games we need to be winning.Hopefully we can add another player by weekend also.
-
Alty 2 Brackley 1. After a shaky first half, the Robins go in a goal down at the break. Reeves equalises just after the hour with a disputed penalty, and sub Danny Mitchley snatches an opportunist goal in the 88th. minute. Attendance 885.
-
the bounce that all newly promoted clubs seem to get in the opening weeks of the new season.
Stevenage 2005? I'd happily have a similar result on Saturday. I honestly don't know much about Brackley, but looking at some of the names it will be a tough game. Could we get a clean sheet in the first game of the season, which can hopefully set the tone for the season??
A 2-0 win, the 2nd coming on the counter right at the end. Attendance 895

Well, true we got humped on the opening day but then there was that run of wins against FGR/Aldershot and Morecambe IIRC. The wins against Aldershot and Morecambe were not expected at the time either.

Alty to kick off their promotion campaign with flying colours by beating newly promoted side Brackly 3-0
Reeves 12, 45+1
Brooke 72

Alty 1 Brackley 1
I think it will take Reeves a good four games to get into his old stride and we'll labour a bit until he does.
Brackley will be very solid and well organised without being spectacular and seem to be one of these "whats the point in pouring money in?" clubs with a big budget.
I expect some derision that we have failed to beat a pub side with no fans but it will seem like a decent point as the season goes on.
Attendance 701 (few on hols and 35 fans in bobble hats from them)

Agreeing with Ecky's point on Reevesy's fitness, if we get an 87th. minute pen he may already have been subbed. Don't know who'd take it, but I don 't trust Densmore from the spot !
-
I'd be over the moon with a solid 2-0 or something. Doughty used to take our pens, by the way.

Don't recall seeing him take one - and he too could be out of the game by that time (assuming he starts). Seen Densmore take two, and one was saved, the other bobbled in.
-
Matt used to be a regular penalty taker for us, I don't actually recall him missing one, I always remember the last kick of the game winner against Gateshead that he coolly tucked away
-
Back with a bang... 2-0 win! (Reeves, Lawrie)

Doughty had a penalty saved in a 2-1 win at Hayes & Yeading in August 2009......just about a month prior to that dramatic last minute home victory over Gateshead.

And even that wasn't a bad penalty. He's definitely one of our better takers from recent years, alongside Aspinall and well ahead of Little or Densmore or even Reeves, I'd say.

Colin Little's goal in that Hayes game was IMMENSE!
-
If clees left back we wont win, oh by the way text speak is now part of the gcse syllabus so all the grammer nazis may well just roll over and die :P
-
Id be happy with a 1-0 win.

Given our opening day record I would be ecstatic!

Speaking of Colin Little wonder goals, was the Woking away match a few seasons ago the last time we won our opening fixture?

Indeed it was.
A 2-1 win on the opening day of the 2008/09 season.
The last time that we recorded a victory at Moss Lane on the opening day of the league season was Saturday, 12th August 2006 via a 2-1 win against Stevenage Borough.
See the Robins Review for the Brackley Town game on Saturday for an article on Alty's opening day fixtures over the years....!

Also with a Colin Little wonder goal, the volley from a tight angle that he smashed in from a corner. One of my favourite Colin Little goals that.

Jacko,
Your vote of confidence is appreciated but if you are offering any tuition in text speak, I'll gladly enrol, as I'm in dire need of a refresher course!
Meanwhile, to get back on topic (and as expressed in another thread), I do share your misgivings about Clee being played at left full back.

For some reason my main memory of that day is not the game but the Stevenage fans chanting in the NWS before KO and their MEGALOLZ Confguide approved repertoire of 'We're going to piss this tinpot league' and the theme from Only Fools and Horses.
-
3-1, to the boys.
Put my hols back for this game.
God, we better win!!!

I've only missed two opening games since in 22 years.
Stevenage and Woking ::)

We have to work out a way of keeping Ecky away on Saturday.........
-
2-0 Alty - Att 769 (52 from Brackley)
-
I'm hoping we can muster 800+ fans for the first game of the season.
I fancy a draw. 1-1. But that won't be too bad a result considering Brackley will be in the hunt.
-
Alty 0 -3 Brackley
Att 683
A super organised Brackley side with irritating ex conference players do a proper southern job on us. Virtually no fans, just a well funded side which has us raging, absolutely raging at the fact they have investment and we don't. We don't look at the races and the NWS is a viper's nest afterwards.
Come on, you've seen this one before.
However, things improve after that, starting with a much better performance at Harrogate on Tuesday.
-
Would that be the same Harrogate against whom we have an appalling record ? Never mind, Vauxhall next.....oh, just a minute.......

We would have beaten Harrogate last year if it wasn;t for Adam Flynn's worst debut ever!

At 2-2 we had more than enough chances to win it
Infact, just before the penalty Paul Jones missed a sitter at the back post

Ah yes, the other half of our famous defensive comedy double act from last August!

0-0 nobody is happy and football is the loser.

Christ, Harrogate and Vauxhall in back to back fixtures...

20.8.02 A Vauxhall Motors 7.45 0-4 315
24.8.02 A Hucknall Town 3.00 1-4 302 Talbot 61
This money we were having to pay to the tax man, had we stolen it from an oprhanage or robbed it from a dying person in the street??
What sort of Karma produces that!!

One thing's for sure, we certainly aren't underestimating the quality of opposition we're going to be facing at the weekend. I'm sure it's going to be a very close game.
-
its going to be an interesting game for sure. i would be happy with a draw, settle in and see what all this northern style of footballs all about.

Out of interest, how many do you think will make the trip up here?

from what ive heard probably not many at all... the people that run brackley seem to not want to advertise the club very well. they promoted the final game of last season (where we won the league and were presented the trophy) by putting a4 microsoft word posters on the back of the bus stops... ontop of the usual sign post on the roundabout outside of town, its no wonder we hardly get any fans

Were the posters laminated to prevent rain damage?

Can I ask Sean, seriously and I'm not taking the p*ss in any way, what the point is in having a large budget team with the likes of Turley and Hatswell in if no one is taking an interest?
Surely you should be on a high now as a club building up a bandwagon of fans who love seeing a winning team?

i think because the club have risen up so fast in the last few years, they just haven't caught up with how to run it... the money is only put onto the players. it hopefully will get better again hopefully. a few years ago we used to get a really decent crowd where we were taking upwards of 100 fans to the away games. due to costs and a couple of boring football seasons we lost alot of them, starting to come back now though.. me and my mates used to be the singing section of fans, but after a few complaints and various bollocks we stopped going, most of them now head of too football league games now but we are trying to get back to the away games.. . just not this weekend, im the only one this weekend, apparently they all have more important crap to do..

Sean I guess that was in the days of the Hellenic League. Anyway enjoy the trip and safe trip home mate

nahh southern div 1.. if a team in the helenic averages over a hundred at home they can be pleased..
-
Based on what this brackley fan has said can I change my prediction to a 0-2 defeat
-
"Manager Lee Sinnott declared himself ready for the challenge ahead"
Sounds like something out of football manager
So I think after hearing this... 1-0 alty
-
In sheer bloody-mindedness - a 3 - 1 win for the Alty
-
score draw...
