Title: Rename the Golf Road End competition

As another season has passed, planning for the 2012-13 season is already well underway at Moss Lane – except this time, it’s with a twist. Altrincham FC are offering a unique opportunity to all supporters and businesses, for one lucky winner to re-name the renowned Golf Road End.

Designed not only to bring the club closer to our supporters, 'Your Stand' also holds great potential coverage for local businesses; 21 Altrincham FC home games (average attendance of around 800), over 2,800 people connected to Altrincham FC via social media, 15 Manchester United FC Reserve games (all televised live on MUTV) as well as an ever-increasing Junior section of the club.

With the power in your hands, the stand name really is down to you; your name/family name/business name, a tribute or special question to someone, your favourite motto etc. You may even wish to officially call it ‘The Golf Road End’!

How do I get involved?

Two different entry levels are on offer:
1. £10 Individual Entry:
One name draw entry: your name listed in match day programmes for the season

2. £25 Corporate Entry:
One name draw entry
A colour advert in match day programmes for the season
Dual entry giving the opportunity to distribute flyers at a home game in the season
Simply return the application form attached to the club! There is no limit on the number of entries allowed from one party.

When will the draw be made?

The draw for the official re-naming will be made at the first Saturday home game of the new league season – make sure you come down and join us for the big event!".

Please make your application(s) by using the 'Your Stand' application form.

How about "The Golf Road End"  Simples ::)

That will be £10 please

Bath did it for their stadium last season and a large % of entries were simply Twerton Park..

I don't like to knock the club when it's trying to raise funds, but I find renaming stands/stadia one of the naffest and most cringeworthy aspects of modern football.

We've done it before. I believe Dawn won a raffle or similar and it was the Dawn Abbott stand for a bit. Its a chance for you to get you name on a stand for a season and everybody will still refer to it as the golf road end. No problem in my eyes. Now if we changed it to the Jim Rushe stand permanently I could understand your misgivings.

Golf Road End was renamed the Debbie Dawson Stand for 2004-05 as a prize in the STAR raffle and in 2006/07 by the same process it was named the Dawn Abbott Stand and for 2007-08 became the Leighton Stand.

I don't care if we rename the stands after teletubbies as long as it brings much needed money into the club.

Golf Road End - End of.

It would be more pleasing to rename the Chequers end for a season.

Golf Road is the home end. Chequers End name does not have as much importance to the home supporters, particuarly as the Chequers club no longer exists.

Please consider this as an option and leave the Golf Road End as it is.

Thank you.

Always thought the 'so-called' Chequers end was the Red Robin Club End?!  ;)

If any individual or organisation is daft enough to offer money to have his/her/their name on a stand or section of the ground, by all means take him/her/them up on it, but please don't expect the rest of us to take the idea in any way seriously. The Golf Road is the Golf Road, the main stand is the main stand, the Popular Side is the Popular Side and the open end the Chequers or Red Robin Club End, depending on your age. The only line I would draw in this regard is the name of the ground overall. Moss Lane it is, was and forever shall be.

What a bunch of knobs on this forum. It's competition to raise some money. Nobody is forcing you to a) take part, b) call it by the new name.

You're a miserable lot.

I'm sure if someone came along and handed 5 grand in cash to Grahame Rowley we could happily dispense with the stand naming competition and say no more about it. As it is, there exists an opportunity for a fan or local business to get their name in the programme (which is what this amounts to) and the football club to make some money at the same time. It's not like "The Golf Road End" is going to become a distant memory. The "Chequers End" has been sponsored by Carole Nash for a few years now, but everyone still calls it the Chequers End and it will continue to be so for many years to come. People who don't buy programmes or read the sponsors page on the official website will probably never notice the difference anyway.

Stop being such babies, who cares what the golf road end is listed as in the programme? It's to make money for the club and will not harm anyone. Well done, I say. Will be calling it the King Charles II Stand when I win.

Ive got an even better idea, someone comes along with 5k in cash and we still rename the stand, thus making 10k in total.

If anyone is daft enough to believe that the clubs soul lies in the fact that one end of the stadium is named after its proximity to a road that backs on to the local municiple golf course then they are quite simply wrong. When the club was in its darkest hour with no hope of being saved it wasn't history that pulled us out of the quagmire it was cold hard cash.

Lets rename the stand after something memorable, or to the highest bidder and get on with supporting the football team.

People are overreacting with the whole purist approach here, it's not like we'll be selling our soul or anything to some Sports Direct type big business, it'll probably end up staying as the Golf Road End anyway or at least something relevant to the club so what's the big deal?

What I find totally disgusting is the fact that people have their opinions on something are then called all the names under the sun for it and feel like they cant put forward their opinon. it is a forum for voicing opinions, not a forum for slagging people off for having an opinion. Not just this thread but many many threads.

And yes I am throwing my dummy out - AGAIN.

Thank you.

I take it you're not aware that "The Chequers End" has had about 5 different sponsors names since the closure of Chequers, including the current name of "The Carole Nash and Family Terrace"?

And evidently none of which anyone uses to call the terrace by.

So its not really affected anyone calling it the chequers end has it, so turning down money on some pretence that it changes the whole dynamic of the club is rather an over reaction I'd say.

Eh?  Who called you a knob?

If you were referring to me in the "name calling" then I said that anyone who can't see that the cash benefits against any loss of tradition was short sighted. I didn't call anyone a knob.

And I said you can still call it what you like, and proved the point by the fact you said we should rename the chequers end when it was renamed 10 years ago.

That's my opinion as well, when two opinions differ it turns into a debate.

I've not called you anything (and I'm not the only one who has said its a strange outlook)

The family stand and main stand have been sponsored for years, I really don't see the issue.

This competition has been going for a couple of years now. Other stands at the ground have been sponsored for a few years now.

If this displeases you then so be it, however it's odd that we are having this argument now?

can't tell you how annoying it is to see a good club initiative that has actually been running for several years get criticised by those who (being kind) haven't quite grasped the full story.

Being fair maybe these folk need a gentle bit of patient educating...the temptation is always there to get aggressive and insulting....I actually went for sarcasm....

but we are all alty fans but so are those organising these fundraisers....and having been involved in fundraising in the past when a scheme is announced any support is very gratefully recieved but any negativity is very hurtful.
