Title: Yesterday...
Post by: bumble on April 22, 2012, 11:27:25 AM
was what I thought this league was about

Turning up to a basic ground and stepping into a socialshowing a black and white movie

A ground where 4 alty singing were the only noise in there whilst we made our way to stand behind the other goal

Chips and peas for £2, paying £3 entry and being home for 7, randomly wandering on the pitch to lay flag like towels on a beach

Loved the retro chants yesterday, including a rendition of Mambo

We often use tinpot on here, but as they forgot cornerflags untill reminded by the alty fans, Eastwood can officially be called it

Nicky clee would have had a field day had he played, Watmore was running them all over the pitch. Full credit for the team who could easily took their foot off the gas at 3-0, or even not taken the game completely seriously (even if it did feel very PSF-esque)

Wish more away days were as fun and enjoyable as yesterday

How many alty fans there roughly ?

I'd say about 80 spread out.

It was amusing going through old player chants.

I bet Barry Crowe would have been bemused if he had been driving past...

From John Laidlar's fantastic match report:

"Eastwood made another change as Keane was replaced by Witton (61 mins). With the game here under control, Alty's travelling fans launched into a chorus of "Macclesfield are going down", before Town introduced Marriott for Raven (66 mins).

Eastwood now enjoyed some possession and kept Alty on the back foot. Next Miles replaced Watmore on the visitors' right wing as the game drifted along uneventfully (72 mins). Indeed, such was the lack of excitement that the Alty choir was even singing its historic chant to Gary Talbot, who left the club several years ago!"

Absolutely fantastic! Enjoyed every bit of the day.

No corner flags, no programmes, no atmosphere, no pies left 30 minutes into first half  - No wonder they are where they are.

I wonder how many turned up to their end of season disco after we had left ?

Still a great day out and hopefully they can sort out their financial problems and get themselves sorted soon.
