Are we to presume they have decided their future lies elsewhere or have they been given more time to think?
-
We don't know their individual circumstances, but in all fairness they've probably been given enough time to decide their futures now.
-
Robbie Williams has signed for Telford
http://www.telfordutd.co.uk/newsitem.aspx?read=1796
-
Good luck to him didn't have a great season last but first one he was good
-
I think Robbie lives near Oswestry, Telford is only 40 mins away so makes sense in that respect.
Robbie seemed to miss Youngy and sadly his form dipped last season, If he could sort out his ball distribution he would be a decent player... Good luck to the lad..
-
Good luck, but no loss.
-
Won't lose any sleep over this
-
Without wanting to sound harsh this is great news! Good luck to Robbie though.
-
No more Jeff Stelling gags when he scores for Alty!
-
Good luck to Rob, a nice fella and you can't blame him for wanting to try at a higher level.
-
I think he was a decent player and scored some important goals for us.
However I do beleive he will be easily replaced with someone of more overall ability.
-
Fantastic news allround, robbie is a nice lad,and gets a club near home.We get to rebuild our defence, major surgery was needed after last season, and regardless of personalities/how nice peple are, smith was the only regular starter at the back that I would have kept hold of.The hard facts are that we shipped over 90 goals last year and havent been able to play a flat back four for over two seasons without taking a hiding. We need a big horrible centre back now
-
not really to worried by that, nice guy but can't pass a ball
-
Happy with this news, honestly thought he was awful last season, one of the main reasons why we never had the ball!
Onwards and Upwards
-
Good luck to Robbie with Telford, he is a nice guy who gives 100% and I hope he has a better season next year.
-
Robbie lives in Manchester.....Eccles, I think.
Good luck to him at Telford.
-
Lovely lad and always gave hundred per cent
No getting away from the fact he played more passes to the opposition than our players though and his best games were when he was told what to do and where to stand by young/Joseph.
Wish him well at Telford though
-
I'm quite sad Robbie has gone, I thought Lee might get the best out of him. He has lots of ability but lost a lot of confidence last year. You cant blame him for wanting to play at BSBP level, with good coaching he will do well for them. Does anyone know if Telford are to be part or full time?

I read in the Shropshire Star recently that they are staying part time... They have a good set-up at The Bucks Head now.
-
I noticed that Stockport have released about 11 players so I would think that Smithy will end up at Edgeley Park... I will be sorry to see Smithy leave Alty...

That makes sense as Robbie has a good job in IT so I'm sure he wanted part-time footy. He lives in Eccles.
I will miss Robbie and his Dad at home matches and I wish Robbie every success at Telford.
-
I couldn't really give a shiny sh*te that he's gone.
Okay, he could head a ball but if you trained a giraffe for a few hours I'm sure they could too.
All I can say is that the good people of Wales mustn't have been shagging in the late 80's for him to get capped for the country.
Yeah, he's a nice lad but so's my next door neighbour who hasn't got any feet and he can't play football either.
Au revoir Robbie
-
Slightly harsh assessment I would say....
-
Whilst I'm hardly going to lose any sleep over him leaving, some of the comments are incredibly harsh.
Let's remember that Robbie was an integral part of our best season for over a decade.
Okay so he had a pretty dreadful season but let's show some respect, eh?
-
Chill out guys. I'm only having a laugh!
I agree that he had a decent season in 09 but last year he was pants.
He's gone, get over it and look to the future.
We need a horrible bastard at the back as Hughesy said earlier and Williams isn't that player. He would have got torn a new arsehole in this league.
-
And before you say I am being 'footist' my next door neighbor does have feet and I was only joking and I apologise to any forum members who are sans feet. No harm was intended in the posting of my previous comments.
Now let's get on with supporting those lads who want to play for us and forget about those who don't.
-
not really to worried by that, nice guy but can't pass a ball
Or win many attacking headers
-

Maybe so on both counts,....but finding a replacement who is better will not be that easy. And with Lee (ex FL CB) coaching him, he could have been brilliant again. (Terry Brown of AFCW once described Willaims and Young as best CB pairing in the BSP in 2009/10).
Lets hope Lee can find someone as good/better then. ::)

Yes it will. We've already signed one decent centre half and there are plenty more out there.
-
He scored once against RDFC to my knowledge this season
Time after time this season he failed to win headers / flicks on near post (his goal was a back post header)
He'd win them in defence, but rarely front post, or in the box - it got to the point where him flicking on was a supprise
-

No getting away from the fact he played more passes to the opposition than our players though and his best games were when he was told what to do and where to stand by young/Joseph.
Wish him well at Telford though
That's a fair synopsis.
A promising debut season but, alas, a retrogressive second season as an almost ever-present member of a defence that conceded a woeful total of 87 league goals.
And his passing did exhibit almost as many inaccuracies as a press release from Jim Rushe.
Perhaps AFC Telford do have someone who can guide him through matches but I can't help thinking that they need to be aiming much higher in terms of their player recruitment if they want to gain a foothold in the BSBP.

You may both be right, however when/if we get someone better then I will agree with these sentiments, but if we dont, and end up with a worse CB, then,....I told you so! hope I'm proved wrong. My cup is always half full thats my problem! :D

Just, why? I wouldn't mind if he hadn't tried a leg, but he doesn't deserve this kind of stick.
Some people...
-
Still heard nothing about Smithy at all,.....????? has anyone ???
-
Irrespective of our thoughts on Robbie, I do find it ironic that he will be playing at a higher level than his ex-teammates next season.
-
Eccles is a sh*thole
-

So will the Hayes & Yeading players but they havent got anybody I would want in the Alty squad
-
Good luck to him, it's not often nice guys win the lottery.
-
not really to worried by that, nice guy but can't pass a ball

And was also quite lazy at times and quick to blame
Goodbye and goodluck
-
great first season....ok had a poor season last season but then again who didn't?
players club and fans are moving on to new adventures and in terms of our defence I reckon we need as fresh a start as possible.
Sincerely Good luck robbie
-
Good luck to him, but I think this could be a better move for us than it will be for him.
Replacements ? We've already signed Adam Flynn, and I believe Chris Lynch can do a decent job in the middle as well.
I remain 110% optimistic about the new season.
-
Not suprised about Robbie , as i said in an earlier post , Flynn would be his replacement , wouldnt be suprised if Smith went to county
-
Some of the people on this forum really hack me off. I know it is all about opinions, but some of the comments slagging players off are totally bizarre.
We have been relegated and need to build a solid squad for the future not just this coming season.
We will need some young players who can improve and become class acts. As many have already said.
Robbie Williams has had a poorer season than his first, he will improve and is a relative youngster. But on here he gets slagged off. Should have been encouraged perhaps.
Even worse, look at Joe O'neil. slagged off something rotten on here. Eventually replaced with a very simmilar style of player, Dale Johnson, Who on this forum becomes a super star. But did he do better than O'neill. Look at his stats. I think not.
Maybe some people should consider their comments a little more carefully before putting them on here.
Rant over I will leave immediatly.
-
In my opinion seasonticket has done nothing and must go now

Totally agree with you on that,...I'll get my coat too :D

Is that official ?
-
James smith has declined terms
Is that official ?
From our clubs official twitter
James Smith has declined terms offered by Lee Sinnott as he is looking for an offer from a full-time club.
-
Smith won't play in the bsn he thinks he's better than that imo but he isn't much better, I agree we should just wish players fair well and get on with it after all the one player who really does deserve a go at is still here!
-
Heigh-ho. No surprise really. Obviously I wish him success in his quest, but he does need to iron out his attitude problem.
-
I was kind of looking forward to seeing how Williams fared in the BSN. In my opinion he has a fair amount of ability but last season he was playing with extremely low confidence and thus his form at times was diabolical.
This was mirrored in the over-the-top use of hoofing rather than simply distributing to a midfielder. This is something that fans have come to generally use as a definition of Robbie's capability but he's got the ability to do a lot more: Let's remember that Robbie was an integral part of our best season for over a decade.
He had a bad season but he's a decent player and guy, I wish him all the best at Telford and hope he turns his form around to make sure the likes of Brodie are still getting a little bit of Alty kicked into them.
As for Smith, if he has rejected us then so be it. A new defence, a new start. There was a reason we were sh*t last season and Smith is just as much a culprit as Joseph or Williams. The antics at Wrexham away, for example.
-
James Smith has declined terms offered by Lee Sinnott as he is looking for an offer from a full-time club Stockport County.
8)
Should free up a good chunk of the playing budget.
-
The first player of any genuine quality to leave us and I wish Smithy all the best after two and a half years of service. However, as others have intimated, he was part of a defence which shipped 90 goals last season, so we needed a completely fresh start in that area. If someone like Amjad Iqbal signed for us, I wouldn't be a bit bothered by Smithy leaving.

I have not been able to get to many games this season but yesterday to say I was dissappointed is the understatement of the year.
I expected to see good things from Connors and Piergianni. They were poor. Connors made some dubious chalenges and got away with them, and passed mostly to Newport players.
Piergianni lumbered around like a cart horse.
In fact take out Clee, Lawton Reeves, Johnson and Densmore second half, the rest were somewhere between poor and abysmal.
As for the three stooges Baynes, Twiss and Beesley, I think they were involved in a competition for the worst player of the match.
-
Smithy thinks he's bigger than he is, no loss because nobody had a good year last year (in defence I mean)

Some interesting comments on the BBC site from Robbie.........also, the photo looks like it was taken at school !
-
my favourite post from seasonticket was the one where he said he would never watch Alty again because of Steve Evans.
I did not renew my season ticket this year on account of the number of games I will miss.
Yesterday was my first game this season and it may well be my last. That is nothing to do with Alty the club or team.
It is solely to do with what is served up on the pitch by the opposition and by referees.
Everyone thinks that Evans is a mad fat T**t. Yes he is. But I believe his anntics are all part of the crappy clubs plan to intimidate the opposition and ref.

I liked Robbie,...but when you leave a club, the first thing to say is polite goodbyes to the club/fans who gave you so much support,....not seen these comments yet?

Why the heck would he want to come on here after all the stuff some people have put on here about him lately? ???
Having said that, I had to smile when, in the BBC report quoted on the main site, Robbie said that one of the reasons he'd been signed was to do with his BSBP experience that he would be able to pass on to his team-mates! :o

Concentrate on passing the fkn ball to a team mate Robbie and you will be ok at Telford.
-
Think Walsh is a bigger lose to the club,i was surprised he was let go last season.
-
Who's Walsh? ???
-
Presume he means WELCH.
-
From the main site the New Magagement Team & the Board clearly wanted Williams to say at the Club!
The fringe element of so called "Supporters" that have posted utter garbage and personal insults on this forum, may have just helped him make his mind up to leave!
Well done to you all...Not really what the Club wanted was it!
Some of you should be ashamed of yourselves...I wouldn't come on here to say thank you for all your support over the last 2 seasons, having read some of the comments about him! I don't think some of you Forum posters deserve any sort of thank you from him...Other supporters and Club Officials he may have thanked in person possibly?

Nice try but I don't think playing that card will work.
He's gone to a bigger club in a higher league on more money. He's not gone because a few people said his distribution is poor
Its a football forum and people can give opinion on what they think of a player.
Part of being a player (or related/friends with a player as I am sure you are) is taking that sadly.
I suggest you check out other forums and see levels of abuse some players get...its very mild on here and on the terraces as Alty. Even Twiss survived being booed off...
Some people liked him..some didnt. Can't we have opnions now?
-
Though I agree with BoltonRobin in principle, afterall we've all been guilty of slagging off individual players (I usually regret it afterwards!), there's no getting away from the fact that Robbie Williams was abject last season - I'm sure he'd be the first to admit it. I attended about half of our games and in most of them, one or other (or both) the centre backs made an error which led to the opposition scoring - we all saw it, so why deny it? For everyones sake, it's good that Robbie has moved on - it clearly wasn't working for him. Also, I really believe that there is wanting a player to remian at a club and there is 'wanting' a player to remain at a club. Alty's' desire' to keep hold of Robbie/Marc may have been reflected in the degree of reduced terms the players were offered. Honestly believe that Lee Sinnott (an ex-defender) would not have started Robbie as first choice next season, but that's just my opinion and as Ecky says, this is a forum, so we are all entitled to have one.
-
considering the thousands of pounds people spent last year in times of osterity to watch us ship over 90 goals and whimper out of both cups and even blow it against an already relegated side on the last day,the team have got away very lightly in terms of heckling. They were supported until the very last kick of the last game. They werent playing as a favour, people have a right to voice opinions. That was our worst season in living memory, yet theyve recieved little reproach on here compare to some clubs fans.
-
sorry ment welch

Way off the mark there fella, but I did Sponsor the Club in a number of areas over the last couple of seasons, missed only a max of 6 home games and attended between 15 & 20 away games (and have the programmes to prove it!), so I am also entitled to an opinion, just like your good self!
Lets not forget all the squad members contributed to our relegation...not just the few you all hate!
See you all in July and hopefully a better season for everyone all round ;D
-
Robbie Williams distribution is poor - Fact
He didnt have a great season - Fact
We shipped around 87 lge goals - Fact
Robbie needs someone alongside him to guide him through a match and give him plenty of encouragement
I am not saying the bloke wasnt a nice guy or not (I didnt know him that well)
What I wont do is give false praise on here to someone who doesnt deserve it - Fact
I dont care one way or another whether a player who leaves thanks us or not
By the way. I missed one home game all season and went to about 11 away fixtures.
I think that entitles me to express an honest opinion on here.
-
Personally, I don't mind anyone saying he's a poor player, with the season he just had. Just thought the criticism was overly harsh from some people.
It's been said about 7 times today on here but "it's a forum people can express opinions"
-
what gets to me,is these players were not good enough to keep us up,but now they think they should play at a higher level.Dont they know it was their poor play that got us relegated in the first place.
-

But like anything, some are more culpable than othes.
Scott Parker went down with West Ham, but you'd hardly say he was at fault. Nor would you begrudge him a move to a top flight club - he worked his bollocks off and played well.
-
I dont think its the end of the world losing williams,
players that i believe are good enough to play in the BSP, based on last seasons performances
Coburn
Densmore
Young
Smith
Piergiani
Clee
Conners
Denham (when fit obviosly so bit of a question mark)
Reeves
unfortunatly this wasnt enough, i actually like dale but im not 100% he is comfortable in the BSP
