on tv or at the ground and at any level of football, someone just bought this up in the office and i remember freemans goal and the way it made me feel for long after, also zidanes volley in the champions league final left me in awe?
i just thought i'd ask everyone this question so we can forget about managers and spelling and concentrate on something we all love, fussbal :-*
-
Michael Welch vs Crawley. That was awesome.
-
Probably Michael Welch's. And it was against Crawley as well ;D
Maybe one of the ones against Alsager? some right crackers by Baynes, Hewson and Wedgbury...
-
Graham Heathcote against sheff utd is one that always sticks in my mind, it is def my favourite goal probably not the best
-

Yes that was a great goal struck with venom as he ran onto a pass from 25 yds into top right corner off post hit top left corner post went in and made it 3-0 against the 4th division leaders if I recall, such a great night and Ian Porterfield's praise after about being beaten by a team with "great heart" always sticks in my mind too. (Cote didnt score many like that). Good memories, we could do with a few more of them next season Eh :D

Live in person - Ronaldo's 30 yarder vs Utd in the Champions league quarter final in 2003 in fact his hat trick consisted of 3 beutiful goals.
On TV - Batistuta for Fiorentina Vs Utd or Zidane' volley
-
In person, Fat Ronaldo's hat trick at Old Trafford many years ago, shortly before Beckham left. All very good goals, but the experience greater than the sum of its parts. Standing ovation from the whole of Old Trafford when he was subbed. Genius.
On the telly, I seem to remember Ronaldinho scoring a wonder overhead yeeeaaarrrs ago, that meant Barca won the league or something. Not only was it spectacular, but it was of vital importance. (I can only find the 4th in a 4-0 victory against Villareal on You Tube from about 5yrs ago...and am convinced this isnt it...although quite similar.)
-
I was at Hampden when Zidane scored and it didn't look all that great at the time.
Best for Alty? Probably Heathcote against Sheff Utd. At least I remember everyone being a bit shocked by it.
Other than that I spent most of 2 decades watching West Ham every week, so any of about 50 by Paolo Di Canio.
and this for our older viewers

Martin Matthews' adroit header in extra time at Kettering Town on 7th May 2005 springs to mind....

i wish i was old enough to go to games then :(
-
Stuart Hamill's last minute thunderbolt against (I think) Scarborough - he never scored for Alty again (or before)
John Timmons' acrobatic volley away at Nuneaton
Against Alty, John Vardy of Worksop on the opening day of the season at Moss Lane in 1978 - mazy run from the half way line before sticking it away from the edge of the box - he seemed to beat the entire Alty team :) It was even announced over the ground PA "Scoring goal of the season..."
-
and of course commonly known as the greatest goal of all time followed by well what can only be described as shamefull cheating
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY40__rBvSk
whatever maradona is he will always be remembered as a cheat for this but.......what a bloody great player! i would say the best
-
totally of topic.... if anyone knows anything about cricket does anyone remember this and if so what went on? was it cheating?

Pelé failed at this, but Jesper didn't.

Flex...very correct indeed. Cheers. Love that goal.

Stuart Hamill's last minute thunderbolt against (I think) Scarborough - he never scored for Alty again (or before)
Ah yes, I recollect that one....
Tuesday, 9th September 1986
GMVC
Altrincham...1 Gateshead...1
Stuart Hamill makes his Alty debut as a substitute and scores a 90th minute equaliser via a thunderous long range shot at the Golf Road End.
He had such lovely blond highlights in his hair, too....
-
Me versus Stamford Lads in 1973-74 played at Urban Road I think....
We were defending a corner and the ball fell to me in our 18 yard box and I set off for the goal, got to their box played a one two with Gordon Woods and slipped the ball past the goalie. Absolutly awesome.
If Carlsberg did goals, none would match mine!
There are plenty more to tell you about if you want, and no Reevesy would not have scored any of them.

Yes Gateshead of course. Me memory's not what it was. I think he hit the bar and post many times in subsequent games but we just knew he'd never score for us again...
-
A Paul Clements thunderbolt in the fog against Gainsborough - same match Jeff Johnson and Tony Webber made goalscoring debuts? Late '76
Jeff Johnson's towering header against Atherstone in the FA Trophy same season. I remember Noel White saying in the next match programme that if it had been on Match of The Day it'd have been repeated for years and years

ahhh obviously wasnt alive during this - its the underarm bowling thingy - feb 1st 1981,Aus vs nz in the third final of the B & H World Series
basically it was best of five - so inorder to prevent new zeland scoring a six to tie. the captain called Chappell, told the bowler T. Chappell, to bowl the last ball underarm, along the ground, thus meaning a six would be impossible to hit
whilst yes it is technically legal, but seen as being a gentlemans game its seens as wrong/cheating
.

thats why they hate eachother!!!
-
no 5they hated each other before that , they are a bit like Barrow and workington where they come fom there is no one else to hate so they have to hate each other. if we banned planes no one would go there or even bother about them and we could go back to sending all the bad people there.
Stuart hammill was he the winger who had a one off showleresque performance against macc in the FA cup 4th qualifier
-
Clive Freeman v Chester.
Nothing else comes close.
-
Brady & McKenna exchanging two one-two's then a curling shot by Brady in to the Vics net, at the Drill Field to boot ;D and Brendan Burke scoring in the 6-1 win v the slime, what a player.
-
Clive Freeman v Chester.
Nothing else comes close.
You mean this at 5 minutes 40 seconds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxCD1D2I8cQ

Matt Le Tissier v Newcastle (October 1993) (http://youtu.be/7FCNyrYC7E8)
or
Tony Yeboah vs. Wimbledon (September 1995) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHCmU4QmgEM)
I quite like this effort from J.S. Veron as well (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5S3Zt_VXzFI) - scoring direct from a corner is MegaLOLZ

It is now illegal. Limited over game rules now include a requirement to bowl overarm - underarm is a no-ball.
Back on topic I was stood right behind Senior when he scored against Millwall - as I don't get to many games this is my favourite by some distance in live matches
-
Limiting to goals I have seen in person
Clive Freeman's thunderbolt against Chester in the FA Cup
An Andy Green half volley from the halfway line in a 3-2 win against Halifax in about September '94 IIRC
Chris Senior's volley against Millwall in the FA Cup
and whilst not perhaps in the same category due to being fairly close range, Colin Little's opening day winner at Woking 3 years ago was a fine example of his all round class, technique and ability.
-
Strictly matches I've been at :
Best Alty goal, Clive Freeman.
Best goal against Alty : Collier of Northwich from his own half of the field (about 1980-ish ?)
Best goal EVER : Duncan Edwards v Portsmouth about 1957 - recieves the ball wide left inside his own half, beats four or five opponents as he heads diagonally across the pitch, from the right hand corner of the box he swivels - and hits it in the far top corner. Fully three minutes before you could hear yourself think inside Old Trafford !
-
Best Alty goal for me was Barry Howard v Sheff Utd.
Standing on the grass 'mausoleum' next to the stand watching him run up the wing towards the Red Robin Club end, cut in and shoot ... then being right behind the shot, as it were, and watching the ball bend right into the net.
Fabulous ;)

and this still shames older Aussies. For a nation that gives as good as it gets this is an historic low for them.

Mark Hughes versus Barcelona in Cup Winners Cup final.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuqCuFbAUXQ

Best during a game Ive been at - probably Michael Welch against Crawley, just edging out Chris Senior v Millwall.
Best at a game I havent been too - this goal by Maicon against Juve
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrRXaFjhgIo
-
The noise on that Maicon goal is why I will always prefer Italian football to any other country!
-
1965 Park Road Primary School vs Heys Lane Primary.
Your truly (aged 10) playing right wing scored 2... one from halfway then another from 3 yards.. a header but from on the ground as I had tripped over and the ball was just close enough to nudge in!
Sadly I think we lost the game!
-
Jason Van Gallaghers goal v Vics... What an angle.

I remember playing in the same fixture for Heyes Lane at Park Road in 1979. Alas, I did not score but Heyes Lane won 4-1

I couldn't even get in the Park Road team of 72-73 so how crap was I ;D

Ray Houghton's header for Ireland against England at Stuttgart Euro 88 ;D
Best Alty goal - Barry Howard at Rotherham.
Best all time goals :-
1. George Best in the League Cup match agaist Chelsea early 70's.
2. David Beckham's volley from outside the box from a cross from the other side of the pitch away to West Ham.That was the best execution I have seen from the most difficult of positions.
£. Wayne Rooney's overhead kick against City this season.

I like the use of £ instead of 3,

Best Alty goal. Colin Little at home to Stevenage a few years ago. I haven't seen a player in an Alty shirt hit a sweeter volley than that, and from a corner.
Best live goal, Karel Paborskey against Germany in Euro 96. Best goal watching on TV, Bergkamp against Argentina at France 98.
-
Chris Berminghams wonderstrike in a 0-1 home defeat to winsford united, it was incredible, a once in a lifetime volley
