Title: Ken and Bimmo leave
Post by: altylevy on May 09, 2011, 06:55:35 AM
From the main site...

KEN McKENNA & STUART BIMSON LEAVE

Altrincham FC manager Ken McKenna, (left), has decided to leave Moss Lane. Ken took over the reins in September 2010, with the club at the bottom of the BSBP but despite his best efforts and those of his assistant, Stuart Bimson, (right), the club was relegated to the BSB North for 2011-12.

Stuart, who has been commuting to Altrincham from south of Cambridge, is also leaving.

Altrincham FC would like to thank both men for their efforts and commitment during the season. Ken, of course, had been a celebrated player at the Club and had rejoined as assistant manager in 2009-10...

I would like to thank you for your efforts, and wish you all the best.

Good luck for the future to both. I am glad it has now been sorted out and the club can now move forward. I hope the club now goes through a proper recruitment process rather than making a snap decision as it is so important we get the right man to help us return asap.

Thanks ken for having a great go at and not being afraid to attack Ie 2nd half Darlington away!

By my maths it's 96 days till the new season - so whoever comes in hopefully has about 2/2 1/2 month to get ready for the fight back

They can both leave with their heads held high.Ken will always be an alty legend, and all be welcomed with open arms by all supporters.I hope the job is advertised nationally and the widest choice of candidates are interviewed. And hopefully someone without past links to the club gets the job.

Even though Ken staying would have been my first choice, a fresh pair of eyes may be just what we need.
Thanks for all your efforts last year Ken, you nearly kept us up.

Thanks to Ken and Bimmo for all their efforts. Very sad news.

This would also indicate to me that certain players that Kenny wanted to keep hold of do not intend to stay (which ones they are I'm not sure).

My thoughts exactly.

Nonetheless, thanks to Ken and Bimmo for all they did.

Not sure why that is what it suggests, unless you have inside info 1981? Good luck to Ken and Bimmo

Obviously certain players KMc wanted to keep will be leaving, otherwise perhaps he would have stayed.

So in my book, we are going to be building a new team and starting from scratch.

As for KMc he obviously doesnt have it him to rebuild or a team or take a team forward in his own name, or Alty could not offer him the money he wanted - it has to be one of those reasons I would have thought.

Going to be a long haul back, however there are other good managers around, the question is who would want to take on a BSN team that needs rebuilding - it will need a strong candidate.

I guess it will need to be sorted fast to ensure they have time to build their own team.

Thanks though Kmc and Bimmo for giving it a good go.

It was my understanding that Kenny wanted to use some of the time he had last week to speak to the players and see who wanted to stay on reduced wages.

I suspect he didn't get the response that he wanted from some/all of the players he felt we needed to mount a challenge.

Sad news indeed, Thanks Ken & Stu for a great effort in keeping us up,,,,

It will be interesting to see who fancies the task of taking on Alty now..

Pse not Dean Saunders

I think the budget will have been a big factor in this decision. Ken badly wanted a reserve team, and now he'd be struggling to put together a decent first team squad. I wasn't in favour of him having the job in the first place, and thought we needed a completely new face. That person now has a much harder job.

However, Ken and Bimmo did a brilliant job to get as close as they did to our improbable salvation - best of luck guys, and thanks for all your efforts.

Gutted by this.

Ken is my all time favourite Alty player but also a damn fine fella who cares deeply about Alty and its fans.  Thanks to him and Stuart for getting us to the last day, it wasn't through lack of guts from the management we surrendered so often.

Turning it to a positive it now allows a fresh face to come in with his own ideas and players and start a new chapter.

Very sad news, and I wanted them both to stay. But an understandable decision and I'm sure if Ken thought he could take us forward he definitely would have done.

This is still one of the best managers jobs in Non-League football and we should be inundated with quality applications, regardless of budgets. I think I'd rather we went with a young manager and give them a chance to cut their teeth and build a team along with their career, rather than a 'name'. This is clearly going not going to be a short term project.

Mark Maddox anyone?

Very very saddened by this, but thank you Ken and Bimmo for doing your utmost to have us go down at least with a fight.

When the pair joined us we didn't have a hope and Ken slowly but surely dragged us up and up and we just ran out of games with a squad who were just not quite up to the standard required with regards to consistency....but it will be the unlikely hope that I will remember that somehow ken gave the season.

I am still not over the way we lost the fight in the end ...and as Ken said at 3-3 it felt like it was going to go our way and then it all caved in....I would have loved it...just loved it if that last goal had gone in the other end...I think Ken and Bimmo deserved that one slice of luck to go their way in a season where if it could go over the bar or hit the post for us it did and if it could deflect of a divot into our own net it did.

I am really disappointed too, best wishes to Kenny and Bimmo, they certainly tried their level best for us and will always be liked and appreciated by Alty fans and welcomed back.

Start of a new era now :-\

Thanks for trying Ken & Stu  :) good luck in your respective futures.

It is obviously a new era that we now look to - as from Ken's decision it looks like some of our few good players are not going to stay with us in the BSN.  I hope the club let us know sooner rather than later who's staying and who's going.

Tried really well, worked really hard. Both really committed and really nice guys.
Having said that, glad they've gone. When you don't know why your team can't win, you have to go.

As others have said, in part, elsewhere what this really means is that only will we be needing a new manager but also a lot more of the squad are intending to leave than we would have hoped. This, for me, is the saddest point. With another good striker (or Denham playing regularly) we would have had a fair chance of reaching the play-offs. Now it's going to be another matter.

Not good news for a 60 year old supporter to hear. Without wishing to attract any p*ss-taking, I might never see Alty in the BSP again.

To use a Star Trek analogy when the engines have broken down, "Stars that were only days away are now light years in the future"!

PS: Sorry to get a little mystic/metaphysical but this could be a defining moment for Alty (Although I'll still be there! - it's too late in my life to jump ship now :D :D ::))

did you just say we would have had a fair shout of the play-offs with a striker or denham back?  :o

Perhaps I wasn't being as clear as I should have been, Jacko. I meant the play-offs in next season's BSN not this season's BSP! (I may be Alty-delusional, but not to THAT degree  :D

Expected but bad news. Though Ken has now left possibly with his reputation as an Alty legend enhanced. All the best to him and Bimmo. Reading the MEN article, it seems the playing budget is competitive, it was just a case of not being able to afford the backroom squad we had this season (all the best to Ian and Sean also). Unfortunately, cuts like having travel expenses from Cambridge for staff have to be done.

That article is a positive start to what should be an interesting summer.
