Yet another failure of democracy.

In fairness though I should have voted...

If we'd used AV, we could have been playing in pink and orange  ;)

Tradition has won the day, onwards & upwards in the famous
red & white stripes.

I just hope all the people who have been banging the drum for tradition are going to buy the new home shirt when it comes out.

I'm worried we may have missed out on some important income here.

I hope to have shirts available later this week, both home and away.

It's a shame in my opinion, much more would have been made from the red and black option. Just can't see some of the people who already have red and white shirts wanting to buy another red and white shirt.

Is there going to be any kind of deal on buying both the home and away kits?

Of course people will have to buy new shirts I have just been watching that kwok fellah and he says.

It willbe so last year to have a goodwins shirt and that  Redand white stripes are the new Red and white stripes . we also need to accessorise, bobble caps are back in (should please george) as are Man bags (those plastic red ones with a silohuete of some one kicking the ball, from the seventies ) and perhaps a silk scarf tied round a wrist.
and i'll be getting a must have Alty stationary set.

I'll need a shirt before the season kicks off (getting my season ticket's the first priority).

A few years back, I bought a couple of polo shirts with the club crest on (one black, one blue). Is there any possibility of reintroducing these ? The polo is my usual choice of work gear, so I'd definitely have a couple since the originals were long since worn out.

He could be Clouseau's little yellow friend in our new away kit I suppose.   ;)

Maybe this is an incorrect posting, I don't know!

The Club have invited the views of supporters in the selection of next seasons kit and, for reasons I understand, some people are unhappy, either because it's not their choice or, as has been said because it may be percieved as being likely to lose us Sales Revenue.

Just remember that we, as a bunch of supporters, HAVE been asked for our views and, despite the potential loss of revenue, the democratically derived choice has been adopted by the Club.

Contrast this to other clubs where decisions are made by the Club and imposed on the supporters with no dialogue, no consultation and, in some cases, punitive action against any dissenters

I am guessing the traditionalists who voted for red and white wont be buying a replica shirt anyway. Its a shame because I would have bought a red and black shirt but never mind.

More hoops on the socks . kingy said it made your legs look like they where moving faster,
may be we should try one leg plain and onme with hoops that should confuse defenders as one leg would appear to be moving faster than the other.

I think the consultation process has been while incredibly welcome a trifle bizarre.

The debate and pros and cons were discussed on this forum and then put to presumably many non forum users in a vote.

Hence I expected the red and white shirt to be voted in as I would have done before I heard the very persuasive arguments and came to the conclusion the red and black would be a winner from both looks and sales.

I hope the sales go well and we can be traditional and proftable!!!!

I voted red and black. I didn't want red and black but the whole point of changing a shirt is to make money for the club. The red and white shirt on offer is too similar to last season's and the season before's. I watched the football league show last night,In didn't see one single league club that still plays with the new shirt's proposed collar. I just can't see many people wanting to buy it.

Only at Alty....is it just me? There was a democratic process, a result was achieved and what do we get? A thread full of people moaning about the result. There's nothing like a bit of positivity coming out of a democratic process eh? Would people have preferred that there had been no vote or that the result had been ignored and a decision taken against the wishes of the majority?

Well I suppose it's good but we're not Ebbsfleet are we? About 5 people have already said they aren't going to buy a shirt now and I don't want one either.

Much needed funds p*ssed away.

ah well

Would agree that most of the people that voted won't even buy a shirt, so how did we end up wearing red and black in the past? Bet they didn't vote, maybe the players or owners realized it was a positive step allround, hope this happens next season
Title: Re: Red and wite stripped shirt
Post by: fuertes on May 08, 2011, 03:35:33 PM
Hang on, I really don't understand this.

Are people actually saying that they would have bought a red and black shirt, but won't be buying a red and white one? Why the f**k not? It's the current club shirt. You either want it or you don't, surely?

I always thought it was a strange idea to fundamentally change the design of your home shirt in an attempt to scrape an extra few quid. I know we've had the occasional season where we've changed the red and white stripes, but I can't say I'm a fan of doing that.

Cheers Uncle G

That's precisely what I was trying to get over.

It's people's own decision whether to buy a shirt, a hat or an advertising board.

Ijust find it bizarre (but also faintly typical) that people feel the necessity to tell everyone else what they aren't doing and to do so in such a critical manner.

However I know that it's a forum and that people are entitled to have and subsequently post their views and I totally respect this

no i think its ashame that lost income has been lost here, the red and white shirt most already have.and all the fund raising schemes we have at the moment one season red and black could not of harmed shirts sales could it.ONLY AT ALTY.
Title: Re: Red and wite stripped shirt
Post by: RageAgainstTheFirstTeam on May 08, 2011, 03:45:22 PM
I just think that, what with the massive budget cuts this year we could have taken this measure to try and get some  extra funding. No one wants a new shirt that looks the same as the one they've already got.

Ah well, as I say I'll probably buy one just to help the club and well done to the club in getting a fans response!
Title: Re: Red and wite stripped shirt

Can those who have been saved the expense of buying a new red and black shirt by the democratic vote, not donate half the benefit of the saving to the club.  I don't know what the profit margin is on the shirt but half the price would be a decent replacement of lost sales.

Title: Re: Red and wite stripped shirt
Post by: AltyTunnelSteward on May 08, 2011, 03:59:24 PM
Can I just make the point that the 2011/12 Red and White Striped shirt, if bought from the Club, will be significantly different to the 2010/11 shirt by virtue of having J Davidson plastered across the front of it. It is also different in terms of stripe width and a couple of other details

A number of Football League Clubs have in the past changed sponsor but not basic shirt design and have subsequently sold a good number of replica shirts.

Having attended Uni in Newcassel I fully understand where Col is coming from. I had to hide for a while returning from the York 4th round game in 1984 due to just a scarf.

A new shirt is split half and half, 50% is selling it and making it marketable, and 50% is making sure it has sentimental value and displays tradition etc.

Obviously the people who are more concerned with the latter have voted in greater numbers. This is worrying because there will be more people in that category who wont even buy a replica shirt anyway. I'm not saying their opinion shouldn't be counted, as every fan is equal, but for me I think every fan should be wanting the club to maximise profits from every opportunity it gets... and this huge opportunity has now gone completely out the window.

Can be tricky down here too. People see Red and White stripes and assume its a Scumhampton shirt.
I'll buy one though! I'm one of the traditionalists who voted for red and white and so I feel duty bound to buy one even though I might not get to more than one or two games next season.

I am glad the red and white shirt has been chosen, as for me they should always be our colours. However there seem to be some people who are saying that they are not going to buy the new shirt but would have bought a red and black one. That appears a bit petty to me, so I would suggest that those who feel this way purchase the second colours.
In my opinion the club have been very forward thinking in allowing the fans to vote on next seasons kit. I cannot think of any other club who would do this.

I really can't see the problem. I'll be buying a new red and white shirt if only to augment my growing sponsors logo collection (I have a number of red and white ones now!)

For those who preferrred a red and black one, might I suggest the most loyal thing to do would be to buy a new red and white one, wear it every day and not wash it. That way it's a triple winner;
1. Cash boost for the club
2. You get the shirt you want eventually (even quicker if YOU don't wash too)
3. You're helping to save the environment by reducing your use of soap and detergent

Everyone's a winner!

I really cant believe this is being discussed.

I also cant believe some on hear wanted the club to sell out and play in red and black

Some things are more important and selling your soul is one of them

I am proud to be an Altrincham fan proud to be red and white - not red and black!

Prehaps we might sell more kits if we play in blue, green or even pink? Whats the difference?

Red n white is the ever popular Rangers away shirt up here - still a wee bit dangerous in the east end of Glasgow!
