Title: FOREST GREEN ROVERS AWAY - Planes, Trains, Coaches and Automobiles
Post by: Sarf London Alty on March 21, 2011, 07:43:42 PM
Calling all Alty fans in or around that London.

The gumpers away on Saturday April 09, a six pointer if ever there was one and a chance to heckle Colin Peake too, not to be missed.

A few of us shall be getting the train from Paddington to Stroud that day, get in now and its a £25 return for an adult or less if you are a stewdent (hello Jimmy Hill).

The 10:15 from Paddington gets you into Stroud for 11:45 and from there we have a decent pub lined up pre game. Nailsworth and the ground is about 4 miles away or a tenner or so in a taxi. We are getting the 6:32 back into London at 814.

Never forget or forgive....

Myself and Pierre Hughes were discussing this game before.

I hoped that the London lads would be coming to this one.  We could take a legion there if we can take the fight that far.  Great news.

Considering how important this game might be,you would hope at least two coach loads and all southern exiles (eastern or western) will make there way to FGR on apr 9th, Id be disappointed if we had less than 200 in attendance. The players would be given huge a boost to see that seated away end at FGR packed out with alty fans.

A massive game, I could simply not imagine being anywhere else that afternoon.

Any Southern Exiles who wish to PM me feel free to do that instead, essential that as many of us who can do make it there.

I'll always remember the first game we played them post the 18 points affair at their place on a Tuesday night. There were only about 80 of us there but the pasion and support we showed that night for the team was something else, we need more of that on the 9th.

I've just looked into this. Two singles works out cheaper for me, might be worth everyone checking that. Harpenden to Stroud, changing at Paddington, works out at £16.50 return (i.e. single each way). Not sure if I'm working that day but might book the bugger anyway to take advantage of the cheap fare while it lasts.

I would love it if we beat them.

We need to try and build this up as "the" away game.Lots of clubs have a fixture each season thats not a derby match where they take a very large away following as a designated fixture where everyone goes to.This 'could' be our last southern away league fixture for some time. That away end holds around 500,lets get as many fans as possible, even those that dont usually do the away games, getting themselves to fgr for this vital fixture,a full away end could give us a goal headstart!

Morecambe got a company to sponsor away travel to barnet on saturday for their must win game at underhill, meaning FIVE coachloads of supporters were given free travel to the game, which they happened to win 1-2 pretty much assuring their place in the football league

I was lead to believe that the club paid for them?

Possibly it was the club.We couldnt expect the club to pay for coaches but it would be interesting to see if we could get a sponsor to underwrite the cost of a fleet of coaches. It would be very good publicity for them!

The club, the directors and the players paid for them according to the football league show.

I just hope we go there and get something. How amazing would it be to beat them on their own patch and take a big stride towards safety!

Very glad to hear of the initial interest, the more the merrier. :)

Just to confirm, the train times are CONFIRMED so if you want to get on the *official* London Alty train to Stroud then book this ASAP:

On the way out direct:

London Paddington: 10:15
Stroud: 11:44

On the way back with a change:

Stroud: 18:32 (arrive at Swindon 19:02, departing on London train at 19:11)
London Paddington: 20:14

The trains if booked now will cost about £25 adult day return and are with First Great Western both ways.

It will be really good to have as many of us there as possible. Already have a number of people who have booked on this.

I remember that night well.  Didnt we equalise late on through someone odd like Keiran Lugsden?  I remember celebrating like it was a world cup win...

It was the Alty hardcore v Coiln Peake.

Didn't we have loads of police dogs at the end waiting for us?

Quote from John Laidlar:

"Alty.....staged a fine comeback in the second half after trailing 2-0 at the interval and having manager Graham Heathcote sent off for alleged "sarcasm".

Tremendous stuff!

Yeah, I well recall Ecky that Gloucestershire's finest were present in full Robocop gear along with a load of specially imported for one night only Swindon Town stewards. Also the night of JTH's infamous heckle to Jim Harvey that is still brought up every time we see him. The thing is you could actually see the looks of fear on their fans behind the goal as we vented our spleen. A very bizarre atmosphere for a midweek Alty away day in the south!

I wasn't there that night but remember getting texts and phonecall updates from "The Duke" and Daycare Dan. Both of which have a rather amusing story of Swaying Dave and the very same police dogs. As I wasn't there I wont ruin it and I'll let them do it justice.

I think it was Kieran Lugsden that scored that equaliser but I thought it was earlier on in the game, around the hour mark? I seem to remember a very late goal away at Grays from Kieran though, could be that that you're thinking of?

Having just re-watched my match DVD of this game i can confim it was Mr Lugsden with the equaliser around the 70 minuet mark. and it was a make shift squad as we had a lot of players out.

As for swaying he had two classic moments during this game, one at half time as the camera follows the ref towards the tunnel he is followed by many alty fans who have several choice words for him followed by swaying attemping to lurch forward over the barrier to grab the ref but he misses and it looks hillarious and if you know swayin' you will understand the hillarity of it.

as for the dog lets just say he thought it was a nice friendly dog and went to say hello and had he been a touch slower....

Schoolboy error there. Travelling from London to Nailsworth on a Tuesday night in September, when we could barely raise a team, was always going to be cited as 'unreasonable behaviour'.

This has to be one of those matches where people who never go to away games go.  Like Droyslden away that year.

Now I know its not a bus ride away and times are very tight but I hope we can get 200 down there at least.

Sell stuff on ebay..buy Tesco value food that week...get the bike out of the shed to save petrol.  Do everything you can to get there.

All packed in behind the goal could just be one of the best away days since yesterday!
