Title: Newport Match Thread
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on March 12, 2011, 11:27:47 AM
I have a sneaky feeling that at least one of conners and clee will pass thier fitness test today, another massive game that with a fully fit squad we should have had enough to get somthing from, yet another no win situation with fgr v barrow today, and to an extent southport v cambridge, come on alty!

I think they will both make it but what effects that has for Tuesday i dont know, I can see us getting something with a battling performance and nicking a sneaky goal from a set piece.... Lets Hope

Radio Wales apparently have commentary today

I believe we can get a 0-0.

As for Southport v Cambridge I think we need a Cambridge win.  Port do well at home and that would knock them plus I think Cambridge have enough to get out of any lingering doubts.

And then when we play them they are safe and not arsed.

Not a bad line-up, actually. Hopefully they're all at least 90% fit and can put in a good shift.

Unfortunately, don't think that will happen as they have Derby vs Swansea and also Wrexham vs Rushden

Looks like suffering through text updates

I'll not be dissapointed with a draw today. Defensively i think we are pretty sound. It's just the goalscoring department that worries me at the moment. I don't think we'd have scored at Barrow even if the lads had stayed on the pitch after the Cumbrians had gone off.

0-0 for me today

Ultimately it comes down to the fact that Alty are a part time team in what is now effectively a full time league. A paper thin squad, decimated by injuries propped up by loan players who at the end of the day won't have the heart that is desired in a relegation scrap.

Given our current form even the 2011 AGM Cup won't save us.. I fear we'll be 24th.

We're just not good enough. Give soime of the young lads a chance I say. Rebuilding essential from here, we need to get out of paying Twiss for another year as well!

We'll have much less money next season long term survival plan needed.. mid table BSN will be a success!

Sorry if this sounds awful, disloyal etc., but it's how I see it.

We all know its a struggle, especially when the team is picking itself. Very frustrating.

Saying we need 6 points from the next 2 games is putting more pressure on. What will happen will happen. I agree we should get shut of twiss.

How many times does Baynes have an opportunity and spurns it? Every free kick, one on ones. Too much of a luxury in a basement battle fight, he has no stomach for the rough and tumble. Needs to dig in and pull his weight!

If no players were booked people would be questioning if they cared. Yellow cards are a part of football these days and are handed out like confetti. I don't think it shows a lack of discipline.

In fairness, and unfortunately, we are that poor. A paper thin squad already decimated by injuries and propped up with loanees, it wasn't likely to be anything else. If I believed in god I'd be praying for all I was worth

For the first time this season, I'm feeling very demoralised. I'm normally philosophical about defeats, acknowledging it's a long season and there's always the chance to recover. However, considering our position and the number we have out, we're in terrible trouble now.

Only two wins from the next two will change my mind. I still think we need five wins and if we can't get two of them against Forest Green and Tamuff at home, I don't know where we'll get them.

Nope,  Can't see it now.  Noise on AGM cup seems to be dieing down too.  just too many players used for a whole host of reasons.  Kearney and Denham particularly big misses as well as the obvious departures.

I've now lost all belief.

These players today went to a team who haven't won this year, took an early lead and surrendered even that....other teams around us showed the fight we lack.

I would now get rid of who I can and start building for next year.....put twiss up as a free transfer and offer to pay his train ticket out of here...he should have been sacked when he turned up unfit at the start of the season.

Maybe a kick up the arse and some serious action may yet save us......can't see anything else suddenly doing the trick.

It's never over while there are still points to play for. It's a big ask, but should the next two home games be won, the mood next sSaturday will be one of "We will stay up".

That's as positive i can possibly be at the momnet.

Brains says we are royally f*cked, heart says there's still hope...so whilst it is mathematically possible I'll listen to my heart and grab at any straws I can in the (maybe forlorn) hope of a miracle

I'm praying to the spirit of the pig on the wall to save our bacon

People keep talking about the AGM and maybe people will say I am not a true supporter for this but...

I'd rather go down than be reprieved. any more and we will fast be becoming a fkn joke of a team, so really I would rather see us go down win some bloody games rebuild and then come up again having earned it.

agreed

The beginning of the end was Barrow. Not today.

Be proud of what we've done - 6 years being the annoying little club taking points of teams who 'should be beating teams like us'.

Let's not get all Dave Pace about this and talk about the maths: nothing is going right - form, injuries, other results. As much as we'd like it to be different, we can't stay up unless we win games, and that doesn't look likely and certainly not in the quantity required.

Time to try and stay positive (hard I know) and see how we do against FGR before throwing the towel in....not many are turning up at ML as it is....that may help for a start

Well that was pretty desperate stuff. If the game could have ended at 3:01pm then we'd have been alright.Newport had us under the cosh for the vast majority of the game and we created very little. I hate to say it but the reality is were just not good enough. Well done the 53 in the away end, good vocal support which was sadly not mirrored by efforts on the pitch. We appear to be ending our stay back in the Conference proper with a whimper.

Not that much to say about the game yesterday really. I thought most of our players put in a fair shift but we're just not very good - didn't create a single chance after the goal.

I thought Dootson was slightly at fault for the own goal. If he'd come straight out to punch the ball away, he'd have probably got there ahead of Carl but he sort of drifted to the left, waiting to see what would happen. I wouldn't blame Carl, think he had to go for it.
Newport looked a reasonable side and their winner was a fair reflection of a period of sustained pressure in the second half.

Newport's ground is really weird. Two temporary stands behind each goal on the running track and then a pop side and a main stand behind the running track. And this is a relatively new ground. Absoutely bizarre. But the fans we spoke to were nice enough and I must give a special mention to Newport's chairman, who spoke to us as we were getting into the car afterwards and offered to buy us all a drink. A very kind gesture. I wish we'd been in a good enough mood to take him up on it.
