Cagey opening. Shaun's blasted a couple into outer space. Looks like a sort of 5-2-2-1 formation.

My only criticism is that we have dallied instead of just going for it when presented with shooting opportunities.

A side-effect of low confidence I'd guess.

At the game for the first time, sh*t 2-0, f**king Marty Crowell is a waste of f**king time, mcarthy is dangerous but not lethal, Tongue Lawton is better than we all give him credit for, Craig nelthorpe is a little sh*t, hewson has a good first touch, often poor second, twiss is fatter than me.

Glad to be at an alty game but there is some major deadwood we need to trim,

Im afraid though that he has taken the club as far as he can and time for him to step aside, for the good of the club,

I agree that something needs to be done but we need to face the fact that if Graham goes he has to be replaced and are there any obvious candidates who we could afford?

Faintest of silver linings is that none of the bottom 9 got a point so we aren't any further adrift.

GH may or may not walk after this. He'll still be legend.
The most improitant thing to for Alty to be run in asustainable way for the long term. So if we go down, so be it. A good number of our 2010/11 opponents will have disappeared in a few years time. Our financial model must be sustainable, and most others in this league have no long term future. I've sen uis go through good and bad over the last 45 years and will not give up ever.

Given our resources we have over achieved the last 2 years, even Ilkeston Town who went bust this week have been paying over £3,000 a week in wages... ridiculous.

If GH walksand Kenny takes the reins we have to re-build a squad to win lots of games in BSN, then we'll go home singing, rather than moaning. The local community does and never will support Al;ty enough to change our financial model. We may be a yoyo team for now..

Alty tilI die.. nuff said

Exactly, one point of twenty four is just unacceptable. It's time for a change, otherwise how long will this go on? I can't see us getting anything at Eastbourne, I can't see us scoring.. Dire times for us but we need to do something about it sharpish. I'm not calling for his head, or anything like that... i've just had enough now.

I'm FED UP of this 'who can we afford', GH doesn't work for free and there are plenty of managers who would love the chance to manage Altrincham at the same, and or even less money.

Title: Re: Gateshead Match Thread
Post by: ArmchairAlty on September 11, 2010, 05:07:50 PM
The situation is diabolical now. I'm an extremely positive person on the whole and even I am pushed to the limit.

GH has to go. No other set of fans in the world would put up with this, so why should we?

This is our livelihood, its our money that is being spent every week on paying players and a manager who obviously isn't up to it anymore.

Things can't carry on as they are after today, something's got to give.

With or without cash I get bored of that argument, as well as other things that get mentioned. Results on the pitch are what matters and we are not achieving them.

Yes we are part time in a full time league but we have proved we can compete with teams.
Title: Re: Gateshead Match Thread
Post by: bigcol on September 11, 2010, 05:17:18 PM
Few points:

Formation wasn't great today - 5 at the back + 2 holding midfielders. Too defensive and not changed when we were chasing the game.

Couple of players did well - Mc is getting into positions and Coates is class. Brown had his usual standard of game and not convinced about Welch.

Fitness is an issue - some players were on empty by about 60 minutes.

On the bus home with a load of NUFC fans who also got beat 2-0.

Tactics are wrong - play 4-5-1, williams + smith are good enough and don't need another man, where the extra man is needed is in midfield to retain possession.

We've played 2 of the poorer teams in our league and got nowt, whilst a comparable team to ourselves like Tamworth are firing them in.

It IS possible.

I don't care about what you say aftet the game - feel free to comment as you like. But on a Saturday afternoon when we're all either at the game or constantly refreshing these pages, your painfully dull remarks DO NOT help. I don't know if you have ever played football. If you have you will surely know it is not always as easy as being within twenty five yards and shooting. Please don't make Saturday afternoons any more agonising by making smart remarks.

Post by: markecky on September 12, 2010, 08:58:18 AM
The problem is that we are stuck in a pattern.

We start well.  Yesterday we were in control of the game for the first 30 minutes.  McCarthy was doing well on his own with three around him all the time and was making things happen.

However as soon as they score the match is over and we never ever look like getting back in it.

Gateshead were awful..I can't be arsed reading all the threads from last night but I havent seen that mentioned.  If thats what you get for a big investment and full time training then I bet their chairman will be devastated.

The players are on the floor, the manager is clearly on the floor and now all the arguments will kick off on here and all around and it will only get worse and worse.

Something has to give...doesn't it?
Title: Re: Gateshead Match Thread
Post by: Nasha on September 12, 2010, 11:13:22 AM
Might as well put all my thoughts on this thread.

As Ecky says, we were in total control, then they score and heads go down again. Though typical of some luck this season for us, Coates makes a good save, parries it and falls to Nelthorpe to smash it in. We force their keeper into a good save just after, parries it and cleared off the line by defender.

I know people like to have a go at Twiss, but as a striker you need support from the midfield, and in every time he has come on so far, he has not had any support. Lawton was our best player, Crowell had a mare, but Robbie was completely shattered (not often that happens!!), so thats why he came odd.

I think GH is, and always will be, a complete legend. Towards the end of the game, he looked to be the only one with hunger and passion. Not his fault he tells them to watch for the man who is free, and we let in a free header. But the stats are not lying. 14 league games without a win, dating back to Easter Saturday against Kidderminster (which is also the last time we scored in the 1st half). You can have all the excuses of losing Kearney, Doughty, Little, Senior, Young, but I believe most of the summer buys have it in them to get us out of this mess, but they are not performing at all, and unfortunately the buck stops with the manager.

Graham has been here before (Lancaster in FA Cup, Lewes), but everybody has their time, and I think now we have to come to the end of the Heathcote era.

I will we there at Eastbourne, willing the team on led by Heathcote or not.
