I've got a lot of respect for Ron Atkinson, for the work he did at Sheffield Wednesday amongst other clubs. Check your history first- Batson, Cunnighman and Regis at West Brom, Atkinson played a major role in breaking down racism barriers in football. Also on the comment he made, it was certainly ill-advised, but you have to consider that Atkinson grew up in an era when this was a word commonly used, perhaps in the same way we use black now.
I will be looking out for Kettering's results from now on, i have been disappointed with the treatment he has received after the comment.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that it was just a ill-informed and bad taste joke.

i agree with you on ron in alot of instances but for him to make a comment like he did there has to be some rooting.
he did have alot to do with black people breaking into the sport but that has no bearing on his own views.

Ron is a very racially tolerant man, in fact I believe all his slaves are black.
-
does this also mean that R&D's attendance will be down this week due to all the kettering fans going back to look in on ron?
-
Nope sorry - just don't get this.
Atkinson did a job 10-15 years ago (and even then not very successfully) - I don't see what he's going to offer in 2007, and I certainly wouldn't want him anywhere near a job at Moss Lane.
Mind you didn't Kettering once have Paul Gasgoine...lets' face it anything has to betetr than him.
COME ON ALTY

I have a lot of time for "Big Ron." He made a stupid mistake, but I did always enjoy his comments on TV football matches. He came accross quite informativel and had a cute turn of phrase, even though he did have problems with names: "The little guy on the wing..... the big bloke at the back etc..."
I'd like to see him do well.

Will they ever learn ???

One of my personal favourites was "he's lightening slow"

He is the man who introduced the phrase "Early doors," to the population!
