GET WELL SOON BERNARD.

I will never forget when you would not allow my parents to pay for my 21st B\day in the NWS and you paid for the room yourself.

Bernard suffered a stroke on New Years day.  He is on the mend now and back at home.

If you can be lucky with a stroke its a blessing that it has not taken his speech, he needs physio to get his right side moving again but is in as good spirits as can be expected.

He always asks about the fans at Alty and I'll pass on all your best wishes to him.

Get well soon Bernard. Best Bernard delight night I remember was winning the CSC against Northwich at a waterlogged Wincham Park.

I'll never forget the day we got relegated the second time. On the morning of the Kidderminster game Bernard was patching up a whole in the wall where a car had gone through it that morning. I was walking into Altrincham and stopped to shake his hand and wish him good luck for the game. Since then i've never wished a team member good luck before a game or crashed my car into a football ground wall as clearly neither are a good omen.

All the very best Bernard for a speedy and full recovery.

I'll never forget you coming on the supporters bus with a tray of sandwiches at Burton after we had pinched a 1-1 and then run into some trouble with some 'locals'. Always will be an Alty legend.

I beg to differ.

They were extremely muddy in the quagmire surrounding the dugouts at Canal Street on Boxing Day 1998 (when Stuart Coburn scored a goal).

Get well soon Bernard. A good friend of mine suffered a stroke about 12 years ago. It was a big shock but she recovered totally and has had absolutly no problems since so keep positive.
I used to love seeing the players dash to give Bernard a big hug after scoring and it's great Bernard is fondly remembered as a succesful manager of Alty as well as a big favourite with the fans...we had some great times under Bernard and he bought back a lot of pride to the club at our lowest moments.

Get well soon Bernard. Will never forget the time you got onto the supporters coach after a dreadful defeat at Winsford and apologised to all the travelling supporters. I think half the team left after that game and we went on a winning run resulting in promotion. A true gent and got the job done when it needed doing.

All,

I've spoken to Bernard this morning, he is a bit fed up but doing OK.

I told him about this thread and some of the comments that were on it.  I didn't want to take any of the impact away from when he reads he but he was absolutley made up with it and couldn't believe it.  Footballs a game where you can be quickly forgotten and this thread is just incredible.

He wants to do a reply to everyone so I am ringing him at 3 so he can pass a message of thanks back to all the people who have taken the time to post.

Bernard was responsible for bringing Bandy to Alty, he is the type of person that makes it impossible to say no!!
You are a great fella Bernard, and we wish you a speedy recovery, and love to your family too.
(Remember bumping into us at Chelford car boot every week? Your shoes weren't muddy there either!!!)
Take care, from Bandy and Louise x

A particularly topical memory I have of Bernard is our away win at Woking in 2000. He didn't know me from Adam but saw me applauding at the touchline at the end and sprinted twenty yards to come and hug me.

I think what many fans loved about having Bernard as our manager is that, while some managers seem at one remove from the fans, Bernard was and is one of us. You could never doubt his devotion because it was there for all to see.

Get well soon Bernard. Your great contribution to the renaissance of Altrincham FC is not forgotten.

Go on Mrs Band, you can tell us, so just how much did Bernard pay for Bandy at the Chelford Car Boot Sale then?!

Bernard has physio this morning and is responding well.

I am printing this page and taking it to him on my way home from work.

He wants me to stick a message of thanks on here so I'll find out what he wants to say and post it in the morning.

Thanks again to all that have taken the time to post.
