Title: Little and large
Post by: Filthy McNasty on November 19, 2006, 10:04:13 PM
Mention of Peter Thomson's size has me wondering who are the biggest and smallest Alty players anyone can remember?  I think I know who the smallest was!

There was a centre half ( in the old 5-3-2 days) about 1971-2, Brian someone. He was massive but gangly, I reckon about 6,5 or so.

You are thinking of Brian Taylor - giant centre half 1968-74.

The similarity begins and well and truly ends with the name.

Willie Mailey must have been one of the smallest Goalkeepers around (and one of the best at the time too)

In the same team: Jamie Taylor and Nathan Comley-Excell (who I seem to remember as some kind of Peter Crouch lookalike)

Two small players who were in the team in the seventies (along with small Joe Flaherty) were Neil Clements and Tony Bannister.

Surprised not to hear mention of Paul Clements from the Les Rigby era.  Surely the shortest of all??

Stupidly when I said Neil Clements, I meant Paul Clements!

Wasn't Steve Cross a midget... erm, short?  :)

There's another full back that for the life of me I can't remember his name. All I remember is he was short, dark-haired, a full back and Scouse. After searching through the Alty website I still have no idea who he was  :-\

Short scouse fullback?  Mid eighties?  Could it have been Andy Lee who I remember scoring a screamer from a quickly taken corner in our 3-2 win at Sutton in 83 or so?
