I see Colchester won their 3rd round FA cup game today. Aah, how that still rankles.

We wouldn't have beaten Charlton today - waterlogged pitch

how can an own goal be offside?

Because the bloke who received the ball from his own players was in an offside position before his looping shot was headed by a defender into his own goal...................maybe  ::)

Thanks Mick, you saved me the trouble of having to explain what was obvious in the TV replays.

I forgot about the 12th yes they'll probably cancel the Wrexham game

I think the game will be switched to the 12th as more rain is forecast for tomorrow and Mon. Switching Leamington to SAT 16th would suit me better for personal reasons.

I thought Torquay were the better side for the first hour and things change with the fortunate own goal for the equaliser, which was also offside.

It is awful in the South East as well. Our garden is flooded. With heavy rain forecast for the rest of the day expect more postponements. I hope it is too wet for my wife to insist that I take her shopping!

I remember an APL Cup match against I think Wealdstone in the late 1970's. There had been no rain all day or that week for that matter. Then there was an almighty downpour at about 5.30pm as I was coming out of work in Manchester. When I got to the ground the pitch was waterlogged and the area in front of what is now the family stand was like a swimming pool. Alty fans scooped and shovelled the water to no avail. When the Wealdstone supporters coach arrived they were horrified as they hadn't come across any rain on their journey up.

Wow  that was a close shave. I said to my kids at 3.30pm do you fancy going, and they agreed but my Mrs reared up big time.

I wouldn't have checked the weather before leaving. It only started raining heavily here at 4pm but has lashed down since.

I don't see how Leamington can be blamed for not foreseeing the damage done by a later downpour. I am surprised that Braintree was on.

I think there were occasions where the ref was very one-eyed though.  Downes, in particular, was all over Rankine going up for headers.  He was exactly the same in the reverse fixture earlier this year.

But as you said, if we had taken our chances, we might have had something out of the game.

You are correct but I didn't want to put it that way in fear of being accused of 'were always the victims' whinge. It was the same at Colchester, their defender continually held Rankine's shirt. We have to accept that officials in this league are poor and inconsistent. Yesterday was clear that we got penalised and booked for infringements while the home side got away with the same, but it didn't directly affect the match result.

Jimmy did an enormous amount for football and carried on while getting ridiculed.

Thanks Jimmy R.I.P.

We played very well indeed and deserved something out of this game. I can't fathom out if they caught us on a our good day or we caught them on a bad day. They came out in the first 12 minutes as if it was stoppage time but after that we were the better team in the first half especially. Pity we didn't put away our first half chances. Hopefully Cheltenham wont drop any points in their next 4 games as they are against teams below us. Yesterday's match cannot be compared to the FGR match as pitch conditions and poor officiating didn't totally ruin the game yesterday,

There'll be a few low attendances if a few of these ties go to replays.

Fisher in the trophy in the late 80s anyone?

13.2.88   FISHER ATHLETIC (FAT3)   1-1   Attendance: 809               Goalscorer: Gary Stewart

15.2.88   Fisher Athletic (FAT3r)       0-0   Attendance: 318   (aet)

22.2.88   Fisher Athletic (FAT3/2r)      1-1   Attendance: 728   (aet)     Goalscorer: Ronnie Ellis

25.2.88   FISHER ATHLETIC (FAT3/3r)   1-0   Attendance: 929                Goalscorer: Bobby Fraser

I'll be astonished if we get anywhere near either of those 1988 attendance figures this evening.

Does anyone else recall our four games against Runcorn in the FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round back in 1974?

Yes I remember. I think 2 of the games were at Moss Lane and one of the replays was on a Saturday. It was 1974/5 season when we went out to Wigan the Saturday after we played Everton.

Bognor is actually a lovely little seaside town.
It is still an hour and a half from me and about 50 miles. A lot closer than Alty but you have motorways all the way.

Robert it is a tremendouus dump of a resort, you're either easily pleased or suffering from memory loss. Stony beach, Butlins and a crappy town centre. Arundel nearby is recommended for a drink.

I took the family to Butlins 5 years ago for a long weekend and it felt a very long weekend indeed as Butlins is awful, but the kids liked it.
The only relief for me was a walk to Bognor town which is about a mile away. Many southern seaside resorts have pebble beaches.
After tonight me may not have to worry about Bognor.

"What, Alty fans moaning? Never. Most obnoxious fans within the Non league system."

The FGR viewpoint:

http://forum.fgrfc.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=57501

For the benefit of those not there yesterday, I can tell you we had a lot to moan about.
Firstly after being charged £4 car park I was instructed to park at the end of the away end on the grass as the main car park (concrete surface) is for home fans only. We were then blocked in after the game by cars parked by home fans.
They ram home the point their owner chooses to be Vegan, so everyone else must follow suit - no suggestion of meat or even cow's milk.
It was extremely cold and wet.
As if the elements didn't spoil the game enough, the Ref made sure he did and insisted on being the star jester.
I am not disputing that it wasn't our management that pushed for the game to be played, but in the second half the surface was not safe. There was one particular incident when a FGR forward slid into the barrier behind our goal-line and as funny as some of our fans found it, the reality is he could have been seriously hurt - if I was refereeing a match, I would have abandoned it immediately.
I am not complaining about losing to a team second in this league, but the elements and poor officiating yesterday could have an effect on our future results.
Maybe there fans don't realise what most other fans think of them - Forest Green's a joke (although yesterday it didn't seem funny).
