Thoughts on the Season Ahead
« on: July 15, 2009, 04:40:37 PM »

I was just wondering what all your thoughts are on the season in front of us.

There is no doubting that it will be a difficult year, as always, but I feel that with a settled squad we will do quite well and could finish 12-15 IF we play to our potential. Again though I will be happy for 20th place.

Promotion wise I think perhaps Luton and have a feeling in my water about Wrexham this year perhaps via the play offs.

Relegation is a tough one. Usually one or two of the promoted clubs do well so my relegation I will go for, Grays (unfortunately), Barrow, Gateshead and Tamworth, with us FGR and Salisbury just above them.

Cystitis, or worse? Never mind a course of tablets will soon sort you out.

so far i would say we look in miles better shape than in previous seasons to slightly progress up this division,

we have a battle hardened team which GH has installed, key player for me is Johnson with his bedding in season over, he suits are syle  and could be are hero come may.

For me, it's Luton and Oxford to go up, Salisbury, Hayes and Yeading, Gateshead and Ebbsfleet(or Grays) to go down

I think Hison might be a surprise struggler along with FGR but, along with Barrow, will avoid relegation, York and Wrexham will be much improved - and so will we ... finishing just outside the top half

York will be an improved side.  I goign to put them as an outside bet for promotion via the play offs.  They are gambling their Wembley money on proption so if they don't then they could be looking at many more years in the BSP.

FGR, Ebbsfleet, Tamworth, Barrow, Gateshead, Salisbury and one other plus Alty scrap it out at the bum end of the table.

I 'm making a bold prediction that Wimbledon will win it by at least ten points. Tamworth,Salisbury,Hayes,Ebbsfleet to be relegated. Wrexham,Histon,Stevenage,Oxford for the play offs with Histon winning it. I don't rate Luton at all and i think they will finish about tenth. Alty 13th. Grays to surprise everyone by just missing out on the play offs.

I have only seen Alty kick a ball against Abbey Hey and have seen no other teams.

Therefore I have no idea.

There will be stoppers.

Alty will play a 5th consecutive season in the Conference National.

The rest will take care of itself.   8)

I am more optimistic about this season than I have been for a long time.

Definitely a top half finish.

Oxford to win it.

Cambridge, Luton, Mansfield, Wrexham for the playoffs.

Alty to finish thirteenth and to have had at least one very good Cup result.

Chester to be the 'surprise' relegated team (they're starting on minus ten and have signed Ben Wilkinson for God's sake).

I'll ask Jamie and Ballers when I see them tomorrow and we'll come up with an answer, anywhere between about 12th and 19th IMHO. As Ecky says though this thread is somewhat jumping the gun
