Fascinating Start to 2008/9 Blue Square Premier Campaign
« on: July 02, 2008, 10:56:35 AM »

Altrincham face an intriguing opening set of fixtures with four of the first six matches to be played against teams who were promoted or relegated last season. The opening day encounter is away at Woking on Saturday August 9th, with two home fixtures to follow against Barrow (Tuesday August 12th) & Kettering Town (Saturday August 16th).....both newly promoted from Blue Square North.

A trip to Kidderminster Harriers (Saturday August 23rd) is followed by a huge Bank Holiday game two days later when Wrexham will be the visitors to Moss Lane. This game is likely to attract one of Altrincham's largest ever crowds for a Blue Square Premier match.

August is completed with a long trip to Sussex to take on Eastbourne Borough on Saturday August 30th. Eastbourne were promoted from Blue Square South via the play-offs & this will be the first league meeting between the two sides, although the Robins of course beat Eastbourne to gain promotion from Blue Square North three years ago.

During September Graham Heathcote's team will meet Lewes & Mansfield Town, therefore within six weeks of the start of the season, Altrincham will have played all six newcomers to the league.

The traditional Christmas/New Year games with Northwich Victoria are reversed this year with the Robins travelling on Boxing Day & welcoming Vics to Moss Lane on New Year's Day.

There is an exciting end to the season with an Easter Monday visit to Wrexham followed by the last home game against Grays. The season will finish with a tough trip to Cambridge United.
