If Captain Scott had fetched up here instead of at the South Pole, he would STILL have written "Great God, this is an awful place".

At least it's not a wet Tuesday night in November. If we don't get a result today, the atmosphere afterwards will be practically suicidal.

Prediction, 2-1 win (Watmore, Clee).

The best places to appreciate Workington from are :

Inside a pub
The Rugby League stadium
The top of Scafell Pike
The comfort of your living room

There's nothing wrong with the folk, but the town is an utterly dismal dump, and the ground is a Health & Safety issue.

I forgot to ask you Phil.  How are you enjoying you new job of Head of tourism and leisure in the North West of Cumbria?  ;)

My Dad once turned down a very good job in neighbouring Maryport simply because, despite his love of the Lake Disrict, found the place far too dire!

Some people on here really do live up to the reputation of Altrincham being full of middle class snobs

Workington I liked it. Town and people had a lot of character

Hale and Bowdon, perhaps. Alty will be like Workington fairly soon if Trafford Council don't get their backsides in gear.

No it won't, property prices will stay high in Altrincham.

Most people don't live in Altrincham because of the wonders of the town centre...

Unfortunately, its a lot worse than that for the over 65's....as the Wiki piece says..

"E   Those at the lowest levels of subsistence   Casual or lowest grade workers, pensioners and others who depend on the welfare state for their income"   >:(

Actually, the town centre had less empty shops than ours......but I still found it soulless.
