I fancy us to shade this one.
I expect the Woking Manager will be keeping his Cards close to his chest.

Osborne will keep his place (and deserves to for now) - and now is absolutely NOT the right time to be dropping Regan Linney in my opinion.

Totally agree re Linney (let's have Angus 100% fit before doing anything drastic). Less sure about Osborne - his trademark foul on Saturday was partially to blame for 2 points being dropped.

Linney is a big threat and we need to stick with him.

Osborne had a good game last Saturday, but I worry about him in away games. He goes missing often.

Where's this anti Linney sentiment started creeping in from anyway?!

I think he's a great footballer, fits in well with his team mates - and in his time with us, his goal return is more than decent. If anything, he started suffering when rotated with Hugill.

Lovely turn to draw a booking last week, and a good finish for the 'goal' that actually looked much tighter on the replays than it suggested at the time. Yes of course he could have done much better with the rebound he skied, but it wasn't exactly on a plate either.

I honestly don't know what people look at sometimes.

Is the national league tv stream working for anyone?

It's a f**king joke. They've even removed it from the listings now. If you can't provide the service let people know before they spend their money.

Single-match buyers get a voucher for a future game, what do season ticket holders get?

Great win, shame about the stream but I'm less fuming now after the result.

Let's keep ourselves around this league position for the rest of the season.

Cracking result.

Baffled that anyone has concerns about Linney. That is 10 in 15 games, plus assists.

Even when he doesn't score he is a massive threat.

These last minute capitulations are going to cost us in the long run. we didn't concede late on but could have done.
I've never been a fan of taking off attackers and bringing on defenders at the end of matches, it just invites the opposition to come forwards. We're more than good enough for this league, lets keep our style of play going for the whole game.

Agreed, we need to keep attacking until we are at least 2 goals clear.

Amaluzor needs to be kept on for 90 mins. He's an athlete and rapid.

If we go three CBs then I would still have Amaluzor and Donawa on the pitch. We would nick goals on the counter.

Giving away the same old free kicks.

I too, thought this was an odd comment, particularly as I watched him cause a Dutch top flight side all manner of problems but hey ho there you go 🙄

My concern about Linney is that he won't score 20+ goals. I hope I'm proved wrong.

Either way I think he's an asset

Post by: Saughall Robin on August 13, 2023, 01:42:30 PM
Seriously though, I feel we've got goals all across the forward positions which makes it more difficult for the opposition imho.
He may or may not get 20 but there are plenty of goals in the team.
Title: Re: Woking Match Thread
Post by: One Foot in the Grave on August 13, 2023, 02:26:55 PM
At the moment he has 2 goals in as many games, plus an assist. If he could maintain a rate of being involved in 1.5 goals per match (69 across the season) we could sell him for megabucks.

Of course, he won't get close to that, but I can't stress too much the value of the assists he'll lay on.

Just seen the highlights (for what they were).

Superb goal from Kosylo, 2 soft goals to concede and a great save off the Marriott deflection.

A win at York but be nice

My concern about Linney is that he won't score 20+ goals. I hope I'm proved wrong.

Either way I think he's an asset

20+ league goals would have put him in the league's top 5 last season - I genuinely think he could get there from an 'all comps' point of view, with plenty of assists too.

If he were available to us, there's a good chance we'd have won the Trophy.

Not sure why people doubt his goalscoring ability based on the record he holds - every striker in this league misses chances and he'll have the occasional dry spell.

He's a huge upgrade on Marcus Dinanga and that will show this season.

Goals scored by end of April 2024.......Dinanga vs Linney

My heart says Linney will score much more.....my head says it will be a close call.
I am hoping that we have turned a corner and we will be putting away our chances this season on a regular basis......hopefully this team can challenge for the last playoff spot

He'll certainly outperform Dinanga if Gateshead substitute him two thirds of the way through the game like they did yesterday 🤣

Those highlights don’t do justice to the save at the end. From the stand at the far end you could see just how far he had to get across to that and to push it that far wide. You can tell from the players reaction though just how good it was

To give a  neutral view  as I didn't go myself, I have heard from somebody who had never seen us play before, went as a neutral, and thought we were excellent.

Special praise went to Ethan Ross for the save at the death, Linney and Conn-Clarke up front, as well as Baines and "Joey Jones"(I think he meant James) at the back.

In general we were "simple and effective" which he stressed he meant in a good way, with  the only criticism that we conceded possession and gave free kicks in dangerous positions late on.
Title: Re: Woking Match Thread
Post by: MarpleAlty on August 14, 2023, 10:38:05 AM
Similarly I can only go from the highlights and opposition thoughts on us:

- we look so dangerous and direct going forward
- that save at the end was better than I ever thought it could be... my word, to get down, change direction and save that is obscene.
- opposition fans seem to be frustrated with us having 'giants' / 'giraffes' at the back, thus nullifying route one approaches
- it seems at least 2 of the 3 goals we've conceded have just been excellent well taken headers, rather than defensive frailties

Lots to be confident about - we should just play our own game at York and let them worry about us.
