The guy just loved football He used to be a regular at the UMBRO Tournament in Manchester and would talk football with anyone all day if he could

RIP Mal. Big guy, big personality. I remember watching the 1982 World Cup games in The Sale Hotel, my local at the time, Malcolm was in for many games, sat with us ordinary folk and provided insight. No Billy BB stuff just a bloke in the pub who knew what he was on about. Sad loss.

He was at Droylsden v Alty about 10 years ago.....the game on a Sunday.....we lost 2-1.......Steve Hawes scored our goal.

Although a great football man, he owed a great deal of his success, IMHO, to the truly great and even more self-effacing, Joe Mercer. The team HE brought to ML in (I think) 1968 absolutely wiped the floor with us, Jackie and all!

I remember deludedly thinking we had a chance before the game.
I also remember it being a 90 minute car crash for us. It could have been 24.

Have to dash, I've got a motorway diversion to deal with!
