overall 7/10 for his footy acheivements.  10/10 for bringing some flair to the game.  A life well lived.

His Manchester City team couldn't beat Alty back in October 1979 though....

RIP Mal. Big guy, big personality. I remember watching the 1982 World Cup games in The Sale Hotel, my local at the time, Malcolm was in for many games, sat with us ordinary folk and provided insight. No Billy BB stuff just a bloke in the pub who knew what he was on about. Sad loss.

Although a great football man, he owed a great deal of his success, IMHO, to the truly great and even more self-effacing, Joe Mercer. The team HE brought to ML in (I think) 1968 absolutely wiped the floor with us, Jackie and all!

Brian,

Monday, 12th December 1966

Alty...0  Manchester City...4
Scorers: Johnny Crossan; Colin Bell and Glyn Pardoe (2).

You are spot on about how much Allison owed to Joe Mercer during their days at Maine Road.

Blimey, 1966!

I remember deludedly thinking we had a chance before the game.
I also remember it being a 90 minute car crash for us. It could have been 24.

Have to dash, I've got a motorway diversion to deal with!
