Altrincham FC First Team / The Penalty
« on: September 29, 2009, 11:32:16 PM »
Hi gang

First of all let me congratulate the team and management for a great result today. I saw one or two queries about the penalty, plus heard several people say why was it given as we walked out. Suspect one or two may not be sure, unless you were behind the goal, or behind Chris Senior. I was right behind the goal and had a clear view of the incident. First, for those fans unsure and also the Gateshead players, it was a stonewall penalty and the keeper was not the culprit. I thought the culprit was the red-headed centreback, no 6 I think. As Chris Senior went for the 50/50 ball with the keeper, his heel was clipped by the player as he went down with the keeper to try and keep the ball in play. I have to say it was pretty sneaky incident and was only viewable to the most eagle eyed ref. He did damn well to spot that as it happened so quickly, but as soon as he blew and pointed to the spot I knew exactly where he was coming from. It all happened so fast but that was a fabulous decision, and also the right one. To be honest I am not being biased here but that referee did not get much wrong on the night, but that was a great decision. It would have been easy to play a goal kick or corner or whatever it would have been, but to give the penalty at that stage in the game was brave, but he got it spot on.

Gatesheads players and fans can slag me off all they like but I believe they missed what I saw from my angle. Some other fans behind Chris Senior or to the left of the goal from the terracing may also have seen it.

Any body else wish to verify what I think I saw?

Who cares really, its about time WE had some luck

Sorry gang, my fault, I meant 0-0.

Cant understand how that happened cos the 0 is miles away from the 1 near the top of my keyboard, and I dont use the right sided numbers.

Anyway were still dammed good

To be honest, I really enjoyed last nights game and even though I am always optimistic I was quite impressed for the following reasons:-

1) Massive injury problems with 8 out, yet we still pull a draw against a team sitting third
2) Loan players who looked ok last night and not out of place
3) No time to adapt for loan players yet still comfortable on ball
4) Chris Denhams run of form
5) Some neat passing moves especially in tight play with little space
6) Agreed with fans re Aaron, like us to sign him, showed promise for first game
7) Matched Tamworth in every department, both sides knocked the ball about well and thought game itself was entertaining despite 1-1 draw
8) Full available squad would have beaten Tamworth
9) Not conceded for 4 games now, despite staffing problems on the pitch
10) Money coming in from Premier League

There are many reasons to be positive there, any more anybody?

Cheers to all and thanks to team/management for a highly enjoyable game with funny banter between home/away fans - always enjoyed that.

By the way, can we take away the TV stanchion near the sterile area!! Setanta have gone now

Truly sorry to hear the news of losing somebody at such a young age.

Commiserations to his family and friends, and his colleagues at Broadheath Central.

Sure we have probrably met over the years when I was at Unicorn JFC.

RIP Robert from a fellow Alty Fan

Thanks for all your good wishes.

To be honest I was worried that if I went to the match and farted, the players may turn to the referee and say what are you blowing for - what did i do.

Also I am fed up with dogs wanting me to throw sticks for them every time I fart.

I will see how I am on Tuesday but unlikely, should be hopefully there for Wimbledon game though.

All the best

Altrincham FC First Team / Messge to all from Steve from Sale

Hi to one and all.

I have just returned from holiday in Mexico and missed the start of the season. I have been in Wythenshaw Hospital over the weekend for a Haemmorhoidectomy operaton and my ass is now killing me. This is the culmination of 8 years trouble I have had which has now hopefully come to an end. I have not had much to smile about over the last weekend, but have had great pleasure in seeing our club results, and reports on the sites, and it has really put a smile on my face and been something very positive for me.

I am unable to make the game on Tuesday now due to the operation, and am gutted as I cannot yet use my season ticket but should be back to see the Saturday one; V AFC Wimbledon. I am unable to drive, sit down or go to work, and am in constant pain - the worst I have ever had in my whole life; I would not wish in on anybody!!

Perhaps Graham and Ken would like to thank the lads on my behalf for me for their results so far. They have really cheered me up at a low point, which should not now last much longer. Great results for us all, and long may they continue.

Thanks for cheering me up, and keep up the good work lads.

See you all hopefully at the Wimbledon game if I am up to it.

Fondest regards

Well done lads and Graham/Ken. Great result.

Got back from Mexico 0800am on the 12th. Went straight to arrivals hall WH Smith, and embarrassed myself with a victory shout on reading our result.

Heres to the rest of the season, catch you all next home game.

Cheers and well done again.

RE Dale Johnson in the earlier thread.

I personally think this may be Dales season. Despite his lack of goal scoring, he holds the ball up very well and is also very skilfull. Other teams fear him when he runs at them. But where he will benefit is with Ken McKenna's experience as a prolific goal scoring striker. Taking nothing away from what Graham does for the team, but the addition of Kenny and his vast experience as a top-notch non-league striker can only be of great benefit to Dale and the team as a whole. Both Graham and Kenny can bring the best out of him but I am sure Kenny will help him with his game and he will more than achieve his goals - in more ways than one!!

Going on my jollies now, see you all next season

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: A tribute to Jackie
« on: July 11, 2009, 05:41:00 PM »
I will probrably come in for a lot of criticism for this, but the area behind the goal we currently know as the Golf Road end could become the Jackie Swindells stand/end.

It was after all where he plied his trade. and I dont fancy the away end being named after him.

Any more thoughts, or should that always be known as the Golf Road end.

Dear Jill

I am sorry to say I missed your dad play by 3 years, but on becoming a Robins fan, all the older members told me many stories about your fathers exploits. He was very much loved at Altrincham, my own lads even ask about him often even though I never saw him play. But I tell them about him as much as I can, from what I have learnt. I also know and understand your loss and share your grief at this sad time, I lost my father in 1985 and I still miss him now. As time goes by we learn to deal with it, and you will too. But his memories are still upstairs between my two ears. Yours will be too.

Perhaps reading all these tributes will help a great deal, all I can say is I wish to god I could have seen your father play just once for this club that we both hold dear.

Best wishes to you and all of your family for the future, keep the meories close to all your hearts.

Love from

Damn, missing the first home fixture of the season, I am in Mexico on my jollies. Having to miss the big friendly games as well. Bummer!

Like the Xmas fixtures as I am at my inlaws over Xmas, they live in Broughton, not far from Wrexham. Midweek at Gateshead is a bummer but our Chris can go from Newcastle Uni, as our representative family member.

First game I can see is the Histon home one, I will be sure to take a good book while the hoofers have the ball. Wish that one could have been the first game instead.

Got my season ticket so see you all next season

Best regards and have a great remainder summer.

If any of you rockers are interested I am going to see the Eagles next weekend.

Sorry but Im going to trump all those with my ace card

Worst game for fans when I was a steward also, was the Home Port Vale FA cup game a few years ago. Due to a mix up with ticket sales half the Vale fans ended up in the home end, and were chanting and very very intimidating. How that did not kick off into a major riot I will never know.

Can anybody elase trump that, or is the enough trumping for the evening.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Mark Ward interview in The Times

My favourite memory of Mark Ward was when he cleared the ball out from a defensive position to the left wing. He got his trajectory wrong and ended up putting it in the Popular side.

I was behind the goals at the Twenty Twenty end and Hughesys voice floated over:-

BBLLOOOOOOOODDYYY HHEEEELLLL - In a perfect imitation of Dennis B

I still laugh at that even now

Cheers
