Hopeful...but concerned
« on: February 06, 2008, 09:59:10 AM »

To reinforce a point made in a different thread by Cult, we are by no means out of the woods yet.

Granted, we have improved and are now picking up points - but I would categorise current performance as that of a lower mid table side.

With the following specific concerns:

We struggled to beat a short handed Northwich
Oxford have only scored 4 goals in the last 10 games - all against Alty (slightly exagerrated statistic)
Woking managed to score 2 against us - which they don't often do

I believe that if we play to our potential we can beat Droylsden and Farsley but we need to do this for 90 minutes in both games.  We've shown that conceding the first goal is no longer a passport to defeat but we will need to scrap to get something from the  Butchers Arms.

I would have been convinced of victory at Droylsden given the way we have been performing lately, but it is the sudden pile up of injuries which worries me. With Tinson, King, Toulson and Cahill only possible starters, we are a bit threadbare once more. I don't know what the state of play is re. these injuries, but I'd say we need at least 2 or 3 of them available to beat Droylsden.

Dont panic, we should and need to be up for it, however it will be more about spirit than skill in my opinion

Reading and hearing "We struggled to beat a short handed Northwich" has started to annoy me now ... and when Vics fans say it  it annoys me as well .. we still won 2-1 and did thejob on them, remember they played most of the match with us with ten men and they struggled full stop, nevermind struggled to beat us.

It was a derby game and whether we beat them 5-0 or 2-1 it was still a much needed win in a hard fought game.

Yeah and in addition, Woking conceeded 2 against us - which they don't often do against any team
We are slowly picking up the points now and i believe its only a matter of time before we get on a winning run...Droylsden and Farsley are perfect teams to start this run against but don't get me wrong 2 massive performances are needed to get these wins and to be quite honest..i have the faith  ;D

What I like now is that we don't give up if we go behind .. We have some fight in us and its not the end of the world if we concede.

Gary - you correctly identify the key point: - when we go behind, we now have the capability to come back.  And that is the main factor in our improvement.  The next step is to not fall behind at all!

To be honest Gaz, we haven't really struggled all season to get ourselves back into games, even when it looks like we wouldn't.

We've actually scored 12 equalisers this season.

OK Ballers lets not get facts in the way of a good debate  :-*

From watching the team I feel that we look more like scoring and coming back than what we did before xmas ....
