Altrincham FC First Team / 3 man midfield
« on: December 28, 2015, 06:49:23 PM »
I didn't go again today due to family commitments so hard to comment, to be honest my recent attendance has been poor so thoughts of others. I have said we aren't good enough to have two strikers on the pitch even though I rate both Reeves and Rankine but the results are clear to see that we lose most games with two strikers starting so surely we must go back to the three in mid?.ls Clee going to be able to play 90 minutes again? Could do with an update. We need a box to box centre mid with a good shot on him and maybe a couple of wide players for a start.

Altrincham FC First Team / Outplayed and very very very tired. The end.

Really hate that club.

That was unreal,  atmosphere was amazing, the lads effort was out of this world. Just magic, for me that's the best feeling you can get. We are such a stronger team with three midfielders against any team. Tough decision between Reeves and Rankine, Reeves goalscoring and poacher instinct is the best we have but Rankine has the power to hold it up for the wide players to catch up play. Crowther was excellent,  very positive.  How their right back is a full time player is scary. Well done to everyone, being allowed up in th corner for the second half was a wise decision as the atmosphere is always better when we are allowed access.

Altrincham FC First Team / Team for Saturday and defending corners
« on: November 05, 2015, 12:35:17 AM »
Rankine and Densmore are out , both will be hugely missed. I would have started Rankine up front alone.

Clee will be a last minute decision but if there is any chance he can play then put him straight in there.

Tactically I feel we will need three in midfield but that may depend on the fitness of wide players like Clee and Crowther.

A concern I have is bringing all players back for corners against a higher level opposition. I hate the tactic and after watching it closely this season I would say it allows most opposition one or two extra crosses into the box or even shots outside the box, we just clear our lines straight back to them.

Against Chester I saw one corner lead to 4 crosses into the box. You could argue the fact we do not concede that often from this tactic but we will come undone with it soon. Just invites intense pressure in our box, crazy tactic in my opinion and that is a concern for Saturday.

Team I would go for depending on fitness and current injuries would be :-

                                                                            Deasy

Sinnott RB                 Havern CB                  Leather Cb                         Griffin LB
                                                                        Moult DM
                                                                        Richman CM

                                                                        Lawrie  AM
                            Crowther  RF                                                                             Clee (LF)
                                                                         Reeves CF

Depending on fitness and I would debate whether Crowther and Lawrie have it in their tank to work back and not to give away silly free kicks. I thought O’Keefe had an excellent game against Chester but still not my cup of tea. Lawrie is a big game player but we need him up for it, trying to win the ball rather than being more interested in committing a foul. We have a big chance, it is eleven v eleven. Just get at the them from the off, I am a strong believer if you start strong and positive in attacking play against teams in the early stages it rattles them and this could be our chance for an early goal. Don’t give them any respect.  Come on boys, have the belief, I can't sleep and it is only Wed night.

Altrincham FC First Team / segregation v Chester
« on: October 19, 2015, 09:21:07 PM »
Please please keep the side open so that we can be further up the pitch in the second half. I appreciate security has to be considered but this season we have been far too cautious.  Last time we were in the conference we always kept it open and there were some big away supports then and no trouble. It makes viewing and the atmosphere much better and this in turn encourages the team on.

Altrincham FC First Team / Can dreams come true?
« on: October 13, 2015, 09:45:59 AM »
After spending most of a day with Liam Gallagher last year I reckon some dreams can come true.

As I don't dream that often I am hoping my dreams are a sign, so my dream last night was Paul Scholes playing for Alty. He actually said ' I am happy to play part time at a local club ' come on Graham and Lee make this happen, you know it makes sense.

I just wonder if it is worth a cheeky phone call, I am sure the club can get contact details if they have attracted Fergie and Keane to the club, I even reckon Rod Thornley could make it happen.

A few training sessions and there is the answer to our midfielder right there haha creativity, passing and scoring. Just maybe it is worth that cheeky phone call, you never know unless you ask the question and he does keep showing his face at events or down on a local astro turf.

Was it Bernard Taylor who once phoned someone like Gazza ? ( again I may have dreamt it )when he was going through that spell of signing all non league stars and a grand per game Andy Dibble when we had Coburn on the bench haha!

Dreams can come true, that would be unreal. Pick up the phone it is good to talk Graham :-)

Altrincham FC First Team / Formation
« on: October 10, 2015, 04:55:29 PM »
I have not gone today but listened to the game. Radio Robins stated that we started with 4-4-2, Sinnott is not clueless so it baffles me why he is reverting back to this formation in the last two games, sorry but we are not good enough and haven't got fit wingers to get back. I am presuming he is playing this to get the players use to having two up top to accommodate Reeves and Rankine.

We need to get 3 midfielders back in the centre of the park and for me Rankine up top. I hear on the commentary that Lawrie played out wide ??? if so then Sinnott is clueless because Lawrie is bloody awful out wide, a complete passenger.

We need to get this sorted as that sounded absolutely shocking game, sounded like there was no effort and no creativity yet again. Moult can't play in a two man midfield and that's shown in his two recent performances, he is a holding mid and excellent in front of the back 4 when we have two more centre mids.

Again we conceded from a wide ball in, what the hell do we practice in training? because we are bad at defending and taking set pieces.

Fuming, simply not good enough.

Altrincham FC First Team / Best starting 11 and formation???
« on: September 22, 2015, 05:16:53 PM »
A few games have been played now but I put my hands up as I have not attended many. I simply just can not afford away trips whilst having my own gaff. From what I have seen, then my first eleven when everyone is fit would be the following:-

                                       Coburn ( GK)

Densmore (RB)         Havern (CB)   Leather   (CB)           Griffin ( LB)

                      Moult ( DM)      Richman (CM)

                             Lawrie  ( AM/CF)
Bowerman    (RF)                   Clee  ( LF )

                             Rankine (ST)

Never thought I would be leaving Reevesy out whilst he still has running in his legs but Rankine has been immense from what I have seen. We haven't had a big man who can play with his feet since Dale Johnson and he only did it in the games he chose. With Rankine we can stoll play on the floor and he can shift on the pitch.

The formation would have Lawrie pretty much up in line with the right and left forwards. Lawrie can be a game changer and his best position is central without any doubt. He has the best shot at the club and in that hole behind Rankine he can pull the strings, whether that is balls out to the wide players or slipping the striker in.

I missed our last home game but have read that our midfield was nowhere to be seen, but I was concerned before kick off seeing Moult's name on the bench. People now know how important he is but I stated he was an unsung hero a long long time ago.  Moult and Leather would be my first two names on the team sheet every week, followed by a fully fit Richman.

I have been impressed with Crowther when he has come on.

Again I am not surprised to see Sean Williams in the England C team, I always thought he did well for us. I saw his wayward passing but in this league a midfielder needs energy, pace and capable of tackling. I even stated on here after our first home game that O'Keefe failed to tick any of those boxes in the 80 mins I saw, as I put then games will pass that player by so it is a shame we did not give Williams another year.

Finally, I have to bite my lip seeing Anthony Griffith working at my gym.

Come on Alty let's go for the 3 points tonight !!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Excellent
« on: August 29, 2015, 05:34:12 PM »
Excellent first half won that, every player in that half worked so hard and the passing was very good. We won the balls and they couldn't cope with Rankine. Lawrie had that much needed rocket up his bum, we all know how talented you are pal so work like that each game,  just excellent.

Best formation for us.

Parry fitted in very well.

The fan who criticised me for rating Bowerman after 10 mins in first game...... eat your words boy haha!

Altrincham FC First Team / Early thoughts
« on: August 08, 2015, 05:28:11 PM »
Never attend pre-season as it doesn’t really matter.

Early thoughts...... good in parts in the first half but awful in the second.

We are still better playing the 4-5-1 with two high wide players i.e. Clee and probably Bowerman.

We need to look for a centre mid because in 80 mins I already know that most games in this league will past O’Keefe by. I appreciate it is one game but I am confident he’s not as good as Williams or even Wilkinson. When we play three in centre mid then Moult must always be the defensive midfield so that means no place for Griffin so we need a more attack minded player.

Lawrie is not a wide player as we all know, I wanted to slap him today soooo soft in his approach and more interested in the foul rather than winning the ball. His only position in an Alty team is behind Reevesy.

Rankine can obviously play but again a big man up front takes away our passing again, second half didn’t involve any passing, just long balls. A big man to me is an impact player but he isn’t here to sit on the bench. We must remember Reeves is our main man up top.

I thought Sinnott had a good game but I am still very much undecided.

The defence stood up well, our 5 defenders at the club are very much good enough just worry about cover.

And finally, as always, we missed Richman and Clee.

Oh, please push out quicker, we seemed to have a line of players just waiting for the balls to keep coming back in.

Onwards and upwards

Altrincham FC First Team / Duncan to Liverpool?
« on: May 30, 2015, 02:05:37 PM »
I have heard a rumour that Liverpool might put in for Watmore. If true it would be an excellent and right move. Closer to the family, a team who need to freshen things up and a better team than Sunderland......just haha! I also think Brendan gives English youngsters a chance!

Altrincham FC First Team / Moult
« on: April 19, 2015, 09:32:33 PM »
We missed the unsung hero more than anyone else yesterday and my player of the season with Coburn, Richman, Griffin, Densmore and Havern closely behind. Well deserved recognition from his team mates.  Breaks up so many opposition attacks and plays it simple but effective!

Altrincham FC First Team / The team going forward???
« on: March 15, 2015, 01:12:02 PM »
Just wondering the thoughts on the team going forward.  At present I feel this is our best 11 and formation is :-

                    Coburn ( GK )

Densmore ( RB )   Havern ( CB )           Leather ( CB )           Griffin ( LB )

         Cav ( CM )               Moult ( DM )

                    Richman
( CM but in reality all over the pitch )

       Crowther ( RF )                   Clee ( LF )
             Reeves ( CF )

I appreciate we have had some tough games but reverting back to 4-4-2 doesn’t work, it was clear how much we missed Richman yesterday, we defo need three in midfield in this league. Looking forward we need to look for more consistant attacking wide players who can take people on and put a decent ball in:-
Crowther – Still not convinced but can have a few good moments
Clee – Class, ageing and is injured a LOT!
Lawrie – Frustrates the hell out of me, soft, lazy at times but can get us some goals but for me his only position is central behind the striker.
Sinnott – Sluggish, not enough pace but has potential to put a ball in.

Perry deserved a couple of games after the Macc second half but he has a different mentality when he starts. He never seems up for it and is very very lazy. Reeves shot in the first half yesterday which the keeper parried and he was miles away. I would get rid in the summer but if he must stay then an impact player at the best.

Marshall has improved a lot and I even thought we may have not conceded two goals from corners with his presence. I will never be 100% convinced like I am with Luca, but he has improved.

Massive improvements with some players this season from what I have seen:-
Richman - for me is player of the season just for his effort ad energy
Moult -  always an unsung hero, he was excellent yesterday and breaks up so many attacks
Griffin - improved by ten times the player he was, energy and now stands up to players rather than diving in
Dens – his energy, over lapping attacking and crosses have been so dangerous and I felt he started badly but we miss him so much when out injured
Reeves - work rate and holding the ball up has been excellent

To release in the summer? Sinnott ? Gillespie, Perry!

Overall I feel we have played great football but I would defo go back to the above formation with three in the midfield, two wide wingers / forwards to push on to support Reevesy and having Dens and Griff bombing on as we have Cav and Moult to cover. I feel when we have Lawrie and Perry starting we have lost so much energy and the opposition has far more room on the pitch. I watched Cav yesterday at right back when he was high up, he lost the ball and was screaming at Lawrie to run back, he wasn’t going to follow his man until shouted at. With Dens you might get away with it as he has the energy to run up and down all day, also their first goal came from a soft Lawrie challenge in which he should have won the ball. Very talented player but this league is about composure, energy and big hearts.

Altrincham FC First Team / Half time
« on: March 08, 2015, 01:57:08 PM »
Some good passing on a bobbling pitch.

Still feel with need Cav in there for a 3 man midfield.

Perry is a different player when he starts and that is lazy.

Always miss Clee and Sinnot isn't doing too well.

I'd look to bring Crowther and Cav on for Sinnott and Perry second half and going 4-5-1 to match them but counter with wide players of Lawrie and Crowther with Dens and Griff over lapping as wing backs..
