Title: "WE WERE POOR", SAYS LEE
Post by: Darren on September 28, 2014, 12:57:00 PM
Speaking to the NL Paper's Dave Stringer after Saturday's match, Altrincham boss Lee Sinnott said, "We had a five-point plan and the players failed to achieve a single objective. We were poor from start to finish and I cannot dress up that display. The players lacked energy, belief and cojones.
There were no bright spots to take away and that day will come back and hurt the players. I have to apologise on their behalf".

Welling manager Jamie Day said, "I thought that, apart from the opening 20 minutes, we controlled the game. It's good to get a first win after nine away defeats".

More like "we couldnt be arsed".

We played really well for 20 mins then boom, heads down and gave up.

We are weak at the back, no bite in midfield, and nothing up front.

But except for that, we're ok  ;)

As ASMO says, putting in a performance and result on Tuesday is the best way they can respond. While there are some players who aren't up to standard, there are some in there who I think are but have let themselves down with some performances so far. If we don't get the loans in that people want, then these players need to stand up and be counted. My only taste of derby day was a 4-0 defeat at Moss Lane. I do not want to feel that demoralized again on Tuesday!!

Having shipped nine without reply in the previous two games it came as no surprise that when the first Welling goal went in heads dropped and players didn't want the ball.

Instead of looking to pass the ball all they seemed to want to do (understandably) was to get rid of it as soon as possible and therefore move responsibility away from themselves to someone else.

An example of this, for me came in the passage of play prior to the third Welling goal. James Lawrie set off with the ball and the further he went the less options he had as other players, rather than making themselves available actually made themselves UN available. The ball was lost and we all know the rest.

I honestly think that if we were to actually score first then the confidence of the players to do what the Management want them to do and tell them to do would be increased - we just need that goal.

Sorry if this is a bit simplistic - just what I think based on what I've seen

I sorry but Lawrie had plenty of options to move the ball on, but didn't.

At the start of his run I will agree but by the time he lost it there were no options at all avaialble to him

Yes but Phil, that's being too slow in the mind and dallying on it. If you do that at any level you'll get disposed. There's a reason why football teams play 1 or 2 touch football with 90% of their possession.
