dodged a bullet?
« on: September 04, 2012, 11:11:52 PM »

Great player in his time here, but greg young is getting absolute pelters on the gainsborough forum, they really arent taken with him at all.NLP gave him the MOM at vauxhall on saturday, so Im suprised to read so many gainsborough supporters saying he shouldnt be in the team.Although it wasnt brilliant at the time, maybe fortune smiled on us, as it could currenly be M Flynn and Young lining up for us as opposed to H & H

To be honest, he looked a fraction of the player he had previously been at Moss Lane when he returned to us on loan during the ill-fated 2010/11 season.

To be fair he'd not played at all before he came back to us and for most of his second stay he was carrying an injury which most players would have cried off with

That full-time contract at York City looked like a dream move for him but he only managed 9 (+3 as sub) appearances for them and the natives just never seemed to take to him.

It'll be interesting to see what those Alty fans who witnessed his performance for Gainsborough Trinity last evening made of him.

If he was to come to Alty and play with some of his old friends especially Nicky, he may have done better for us...

Because he would know that all the fans like him which would have given him confidence.

Maybe? I dunno :P

Maybe he's still carrying an injury - but he's lost a yard of pace. Waterfall had to cover for him, and that reduced HIS effectiveness in the first half.

I have a lot of respect for Greg. I think he was cast as too much of a messiah when he came back to us on loan. A fully fit Youngy would give us that experience and competition at the back though!

Not every club fits every player. Think Sean Clancy at Alty and what he's achieved since....

And certain clubs fit certain players.

It was a clear case of should never have left. If Greg had looked closer he would've seen York had a very settled back 4 at the time. He was always going to be the 5th defender.
