Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Can we.....................
« on: September 15, 2009, 01:52:53 PM »

We have some good headers of the ball, particularly Young and not forgeting the height of Senior! Not sure if Williams knows how to jump yet though. I understand he might be lacking in experience at this level and will come on as the season goes, but I think he needs some heading training. Anyway I digress.

LOL.....How high do you want him to jump?

LOL he is about 12 inches off the ground there and the Crawly player is crouching down. I am sorry but that is not a jump in my book but a hop in the air only.

He's clearly brought along some kind of metal pole to climb, anyway.

It's even more baffling when you consider that GH was a fantastic taker of free kicks, and Ken McKenna was one of the best headers of a ball we have had at Altrincham, possibly equalling the great John Rogers.

Will we ever score from a corner or free kick??

Let's hope that they are sick of scoring after Saturday.
I reckon we could hold them until half time, but the second half will be tough!!

Can we lobby the BSP to cut games down to 45 minutes.
We would be odds on to win the league by now!! ::) ::)

Altrincham FC First Team / Pitch protest
« on: September 02, 2009, 07:08:50 PM »
All the talk (mainly around Chester) of protests against the owners of Chester City reminds me of going to a pre-season friendly at Moss Lane, probably in the eighties, and there being a sit down protest at half time in the centre circle.
Being Alty it was all very non threatening and good humoured, and the fans vacated the pitch when the PA asked them to, but I cannot remember what it was about.
Can anyone jog my memory???

Altrincham FC First Team / K.O. for Chester game
« on: August 28, 2009, 01:18:47 PM »
Is the Chester game definitely a 3pm KO?

Last year we were at home to Wrexham for August Bank Holiday and the KO was brought forward to 12 noon.

Strange game, they were undoubtedly better on the ball, but in the second half we had the better chances.

I hate slating any of our players as they all normally give everything they have. Having said that I thought Matty Crowell was terrible today.
Still, no disgrace.

Altrincham FC First Team / Predictions for Wimbledon
« on: August 22, 2009, 10:21:52 AM »
It would be very hard to take if we get a decent crowd this afternoon and get beaten.
I know it is early in the season but this is a massive game to show that we are not in a false position in the BSP. This is the best squad we have had in a number of years.

I am going for a 1-0 victory and a crowd of 1300.

COME ON ALTY!!!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Interview with GH
« on: August 22, 2009, 09:15:34 AM »
The Blue Square Premier website has an interview with GH, it's worth a listen and good to see he's keeping his feet on the ground.
They refer to us as 'surprise performers', by the way!!

Now we have Ken McK alongside GH and new players addressing our weaker areas from last season ie Kearney and Crowell, I reckon this could be the start of a great season.

2 - 0 to Alty,
Little and Crowell

The local evening paper here is leading with a 25 point deduction.
BSN for Chester next season!!

Altrincham FC First Team / What's your favourite Alty goal??
« on: July 25, 2009, 10:43:03 AM »
As mentioned by Jezza in the highest score thread, it started me wondering what the best Alty goal I have seen was. Not just for quality, but also for the timing and state of play when it was scored.

For me there are two.
Jeff Johnsons goal at Boston in THAT FA trophy semi final, and Barry Howards goal at Rotherham in the FA Cup.
It is just a shame that Jeff Johnsons goal was about two minutes before the worst thing that has happened to me watching Alty!!

Much as I hate the way the club is run,I was looking forward to our two games against them this season.
It would have given us a bumper attendance in August as well. I hope they sort it out.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Thoughts on the Season Ahead
« on: July 17, 2009, 09:06:39 AM »
As Ecky says though this thread is somewhat jumping the gun

It is called a forum to discuss what you think might happen. Just like people discuss that the likely happenings at Northwich or how many fans will travel to see their team at Moss Lane.

Christ almight l could say that possibly by 2020 we could be taking pleasure trips to moon and people would discuss it - rather than say the thread is jumping the gun !!!

It is called speculation, you know just like the bookmakers do with their odds, you dont see them saying actually I wont put my odds up just yet as it is jumping the gun.

Exactly, we are allowed to put predictions on here. I really don't see the problem.
