Biggest Alty away following?
« on: January 05, 2009, 05:55:45 PM »

Further to Ballers's comment in the Torquay/ FGR thread - what is the biggest away following Alty have ever taken with them for 1. FA Cup? and 2. League? And how many did we take to Wembley for the FA Trophy finals?

I realise there may not be stats to hand but I'm sure those who have been about a bit can remember a few of these occasions. At a mere 25 I  remember Spurs away in the FA Cup as the biggest following I have witnessed  ;D

I'd have thought either of the Wembley trips.

The biggest one ive been at was Tottenham 1995. 3,000 ?

90's Tottenham I'd put around 2000, I'd say more than 10k at Wembley in 78, crowd quoted was 20,000, we had many more than Leatherhead.

League games I'd say Stafford away and Kettering away in the nearly season, around 1,000 and 750 respectively.

Still think Liverpool away has to be the largest following for an FA Cup tie (unless the mists of time have enlarged it in my imagination......now where have I heard that before?).

What about the biggest Alty following at any game ?

Old Trafford V Everton 1975

Maine Road v Spurs 1979

Surely we had 25000 Home fans for both of those at least.

As regards the FA Cup, how many did Alty take to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1966?

I would also guess that our away followings circa 1965 to 1968 in the old Cheshire League to places such as Macc and Vics could have been quite considerable in the light of the higher attendances at matches during that era.

For the Everton game at Man U there were just over 35000 fans at Old Trafford, I was at the game and remembered the attendance being announced.

Yes, thought that was the case.

So i reckon no more than 10,000 Evertonians. The rest supporting Alty then.

For my money, the biggest must have been at Maine Road for the Spurs game. Not many of their fans and a crowd bigger than the one for City the night (I think) before. May have just edged the Old Trafford match in that there were loads from Everton at that one.

PS: Not boasting*, and expecting loads of Peakes because of it, but I've seen all our 3rd and 4th round appearances (Including Wolves), and all 3 Wembley appearances ... and have the programmes (and ticket stubs were given) from all of them!

Come on you Supers!

*Perhaps I am - but just a little!
