No surprises in those starting, but 3 players who are best at right-back, on the bench is baffling.

Quite a defensive subs bench. Only O'Neill is a forward player - this would have been a good day to put Logan on the bench

Sounds more like it, the commentators did say Tinson was injured a while before the substitution.

Title: Re: Today's teams from the BBC
Post by: joe on January 26, 2008, 08:04:43 PM
Dropping a goalkeeper can often do more damage than good as a big part of a keepers game is based on confidence and getting dropped would do their confidence no good at all. I posted last week that Stuart seemed to be struggling this season after his back injury last year but he seems to have been back to his best today so hopefully it was just a dip in form and we'll start to see the Stuart Coburn we all know and love as we approach the most important part of the season.
Title: Re: Today's teams from the BBC
Post by: RedhillAlty on January 26, 2008, 08:25:09 PM
I was at the game today with my 5 year old son who has been brainwashed into supporting Alty although we now live 220 miles away from Moss Lane. Stuart pulled off a couple of brilliant saves that kept us in the game - without those it would have been a repeat of the recent game at Oxford. Yes Cambridge were the better team, but Alty played well, there was a lot of good passing and cohesion today, and we kept trying to play football. In all a good performance and with a bit of luck we could have got at least a point. There seemed to be a belief in the team today that although we were 1-0 down for most of the game, we could salvage something. Robbie nearly broke the bar. Performances like today should see us stay up. We should get something against Woking, who are one of the worse teams I have seen this season, but expect them to raise their game for the cameras.

We raised our game at Stevenage for the cameras - we will, I am sure, be doing the same again.

just got back and a great performance by the lads today against a solid cambridge team. there 1st goal was a mile off side but then again so was little for our equaliser (which came from some ecellent work by joe on the right, he had a good game when he came on). young's collision with the post made most people cringe it looked very painfull, the ref was a pedantic so and so but arn't they all when you lose. robbies shot hit the bar and bounced on or over the line (was very close and only a brave linno would have given it) there goal came from a shot that stu (who was immense pulling off saves like he was possessed) had covered untill it took the double deflection. but a fantastic game to watch real end to end stuff and any neutrals in the ground would have gone home very pleased. ah well onwards and upwards woking on thursday hopefully get something outof that and be 4pts clear of farsley before they play.
