Altrincham FC First Team / Re: away to woking then home to barrow
« on: July 02, 2008, 11:16:51 AM »
Tough first game against a team we don't do particularly well against - but they have hovered above relegation zone for the last 2 years!

2 very winnable games against Barrow and Kettering follow.

Fingers crossed for a good start.

Tough December though - Need points on the board early doors.

Can't wait!

He never really showed us his best.. it's probably a good time for him to move on and he'll do OK at that level.

I wish him all the best

What is interesting is, we now need to add a decent centre back to partner Gerg Young... Hope GH has someone in mind?

Hughesy,

Does your picture mean that "god" whoever you deem that to be is looking over us??.............. OR

You know that there is a brazilian going to sign in the near future? (Hopefully part time so to avoid any work permit issues!)

On paper it looks tough, but I think

Lewes
Eastbourne
Weymouth
Woking
Histon
Salisbury
Crawley
Barrow

Will be the teams in the mix with us this season...

Alty Dave,

I agree, however 1 win is everything! Even 3 draws, but bottom line it didn't happen, maybe the manager said play long long ball all season?

Maybe it was playing players out of position? I could list it, but the list would be too long.

KM might not join us, but surely time for a change? YES, early season cost us, but again - can only be one person responsible? GH!!!

I agree, lets build on it, but we need to keep the nucleus of the team!

To everyone else that says I told you so! f**k OFF !! It's only a small element that spend their time to go on your fourms and say anything.

Don't come on here and rub the salt in.

Macc - You always have a good March - invraiably because you've changed managers twice a year! I think we'd give you a game (even given your current position!) considering we're no longer your rivals your spending a lot of time talking about it - W*****S

Farsley - Why are you moaning? You seriously didn't deserve to stay up! What do you want a sympathy vote? See you next year - When you're full time (HA-HA)

Anybody else - say your piece and go away.. We'll get a hat-trick via the AGM?

I think now is the time for GH to step aside and the board to accept it (PEAKE ME IF IT'S WRONG)

But, 3 seasons, 3 relegations, twice reprieved?! Forget the part-time thing, Forget debt.. It's an excuse.

We actually played attacking football today (OK we drew), but how many other games have we set up and defended - when in reality - we can't defend.

It's too early to start this, but please GH for the sake of Alty FC, let someone else take over - You've done us proud, but long ball just isn't good enough anymore at this level!

If we keep it the same, given the calibre of the team (or similarity) next year (when all but 1 will be F/T) then we'll come mid-table playing the football we do?!

Ken McKenna for me

All,

Firstly, may i congratulate all of the Alty fans that travelled to Weymouth today - sadly I couldn't go, but you are a credit to your team - I saw numerous faces from this forum that were there - Gaz W, Ecky, Duke etc, etc (Sorry if I missed you)

Secondly, can I congratulate the team for tryin their best today, OK, we didn't win, but we played in a style that I wish we'd played all year (a few games excepted!)

I do feel it is time for a year end post mortem - maybe it's a bit early but lets face it, when is a good time?!?!?

As i've said I couldn't travel today,  but I have seen 30 of our 46 games, so I can have a balanced opinion.

Opinion 1 - GH has done a great job for us for 6 years (in Oct), despite votes of confidence, now is the time for him to move over and let someone else bring their idea's to the fore! irrespective of the boards votes of confidence!

Opinion 2 - IN that position will be Ken McKenna - I'm sure it'll be debated to death, but I think he will play a style of football that I really think will see us have a chance in the BSN

Opinion 3 - GB didn't really add an awful lot when he came into the management team - however, he could still assist in some capacity

Opion 4 - If we now accept that the players we have are not good enough for the BSP (although since New Years day, I think we've competed well!) then we must keep a shell of a team - including Coburn, Young,Lane, Senior & Little (Loan players excluded for obvious reasons) - others can compete and do well - Peyton, Lawton, O'neill?

Opinion 5 - We should clear the dead wood from the team and start afresh - Aspinall, Sedgemore etc, etc

Opinion 6 - As a GREAT non-league team, we must now invest in some players that can get us promoted immediately - admitidely this may be difficult, but surely a club of our stature and integrity can attract players to our club, that will allow us a chance to bounce back?

Opinion 7 - The chairman is now where he wants to be uote "We want to be a big fish in a small pond not a small fish in a big pond - bottom line is the BSN is probably a harder league to get out of than surviving in the BSP - So what's he going to do??? pull the blindfold over his eyes and pretend everything is OK? He doesn't see most of our games, so reality check - Understand what's going on!!!

Opinion 8 - Our support will diminish - undoubtedly, however, given our turn out to away games as far as weymouth, do not be in doubt that we'll support our team week in week out, whatever league we are in!

Opinion 9 - We still believe, we still support, we still are one, We ARE ALTY AND ALWAYS WILL BE, I AM PROUD OF THE LADS AS I'M SURE EVERYONE ELSE IS - AND WE ALWAYS WILL BE FOR YEARS TO COME.

Hard luck today, at least we were positive, don't be too dis-heartened, there's always the AGM.

FOREVER ALTY!!!!!!!!!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Player of the year?!?!
« on: April 12, 2008, 11:48:37 PM »
I couldn't be at the race night tonight or the announcements! but my predictions for the awards are;

Players player - Ryan Shotton
Fans Planyer - Ryan Shotton
Mangers Player - Robbie Lawton
Top Scorer - Obvious = Mr Little
Most contributed - Stuart Coburn

It's probably too late to generate a debate, but we'll see

Not sure what was said to GB, but GH wasn't happy, there was a few words and a bit of pushing, then one of the turkey lads said something and one of the Alty staff responded (not sure who) Alty Tunnel Steward involved trying to keep the peace as was Graham Rowley.

Once calmed down, all of the remaining Turkey players weighed in and it went off again. Ref blew his whistle continously for about 30 seconds then it all calmed down...

GH defintiely involved, but largely the Torquay players that carried it on...

Storm in a teacup, just hope it's a fine only from the 'powers that be' and no point deduction.

The Torquay fans coming out were moaning about poor segregation and having to stand in the open... Told them to expect the same next year, hopefully in sub-zero conditions

We've got an outside chance this week - currently 10th, but if we get enough on then we could get into the promotion places.

For me it's a pretty close run thing - 3 stand out performers for me

1) Shotton - Outstanding all year to date - solid, good on the ball and never gives up
2) Little - Without his goals - we'd probably all have conceded defeat in the relegation battle and with a few more goals from him -  he might keep us up
3) Coburn - I know our defensive record hasn't been good, but how many outstanding saves has he made again this season - particularly of late (2 world class against Halifax and although we lost - Save of the season against Histon)

Others could stake a claim - Tinson, Robbie, Lane - but not stood out as much as the 3 above.

I've excluded loan players like Jennings and King - who would have featured if they had been here longer

My Dad has been going for 40 years + and would always go on about Alty, the giant killing in the FA Cup and the "Glory Days". He finally took me when I was 7 - in 1985 to Alty vs Barnet - We won 2 - 0 and from there on I was hooked.

I moved out of the area for a while so missed some of the baron days when in the Unibond, but now travel regularly to watch home games.

I'd pick Alty over Man U, City etc everday of the week - There's more passion, conviction, distinction and at present there's that "under dog" type feeling that builds the anticipation in you for days before a match...

Alty have been my No 1 club since I was a nipper and will be for many more years to come!
