Non Altrincham FC Talk / Re: Linesmen
« on: February 28, 2007, 09:46:28 AM »
Ballers,

It's generally about the Referee's pre match instructions.

Some Refs tell you to Referee your quarter, if you see a foul give it. Others say for you to follow them. One retired Referee of a public school persuasion had the following as part of his pre match (when referring to throw ins) If the ball goes out of play on your line put your flag up and I'll tell you which way to point so follow me.

There seems at the level above the Parks to be a big thing at present about credibility hence increasing numbers of Ref's wanting you to follow them into a decision.

Myself I follow the first school of thought, my Assistant is a qualified Ref so why should I dictate to him or her what he or she has seen.

I personally don't think that they'll travel in anything like those numbers to be brtutally honest.

Also I'd be reluctant personally to take space from the home fans - we don't want it to be like an Oxford Home fixture

Have to agee with Slade Green Alty on this one,

You cannot claim that the number of people in a position or otherwise represents  racism without knowing what proportion of the people having applied for said position this represents.

Also it may well be that they were not the best candidate

What would be catastrophic would be the implementation of quota's and positive discrimination, I think if it ever came to that in Football I'd take up the violin

The mind boggles.

One wonders whether a price of £7.50 for the (autographed) DVD would attract many customers

(Sorry I posted this in the wrong thread originally)

On a final note how on earth are those totally open and clearly token permiter barriers allowed?

I cannot agree more and neither incidentally can the Safety and Stewarding Staff at the Victoria Stadium.

God forbid they ever get a huge crowd or a bunch really up for a rumble. Their procedures are fine and all in place i just worry about the infrastructure

Sorry Gary,

It just seemed to me that everyone seemed to be aware of the bottle chucking, which was picked up on the CCTV by the way as I assume would the coin throwing be.

I am aware that the person responsible for throwing the bottle had been apprehended when I spoke to Darren whilst on my way home.

It also seemed better that I praise the vast majority of travelling supporters who were so provoked  by a number of Vics supporters but again it seems that whatever I post is $h!t on from a dizzy height.

It is ridiculous to claim that no Alty fan 'misbehaved' last night. Three Alty fans were removed and issued warnings by AFC Stewards to my certain knowledge and, I'm sorry but Gary's post smacks somewhat of a persecution complex.

Like it or not we have now had situations at two away fixtures very close together (Southport and Northwich) and to use two hackneyed phrases 'there's no smoke without fire' and 'sh*t sticks'

I love this Football Club and I'd hate it to get any sort of reputation. We must all act responsibly Home and Away - that is all I'm asking

Unfortunately we were again let down by a very small minority of people.

I was called over to a Turnstile before the match which the operator had closed temporarily as she was frightened for her safety. One extremely drunk individual had jumped over the turnstile and run away toward the Alty Fans and she had been threatened with sexual assault by two others as she would not let them in for free like their mate.

This was not just her word against the Alty Fans, some other neutral supporters had also heard it.

As I was there I was joined by the Chief Steward from Northwich who had been to remove a number of drunken and abusive Alty fans from the Restaurant adjoining the stadium.

I'll admit that there was a fair amount of verbal jousting between the two sets of supporters particularly at the end.

The majority of Alty Fans were as usual superb but as I said, sadly we were let down by a small minority.

Sorry Guys,

Lighten up just doesn't do it.

Deeply deeply p!$$ed off at people having a dig at Stewarding Staff, obviously considered an easy/soft target.

Also got the 'ump with every post of mine being slaughtered (although getting used to it now) even when I'm only trying to be helpful.

Hughesy,

This is a reciprocal arrangement. The Vics Stewards came to ML on Boxing Day and helped us as do the Southport Stewards regularly when we play them. We also had a representation from York City when they visited recently.

When Darren says that our stewards will be helping out he means just that, helping out. He doesn't mean getting in and watching the match for free.

Apologies if my earlier post seemed to be in the 'wrong spirit' I was not trying to do away with discussion nor debate as both are healthy and valuable.

My point re letting the Management decide was meant really as just that. If the management think that an overnight stay is required then, forum discussion and or debate aside, they are paid to make those decisions, to utilise the available resources most effectively, so an overnight stay it is.

Sadly, and as some other correspondents have alluded to, whether a delay in getting to the ground and submitting the team sheet is due to circumstances beyond your control or not, there will still be a fine, as there was in Conf North when we twice got held up on the M6 I seem to recall.

You say that the forum is there for the expression of views, I have tried to express mine (albeit not very lucidly I'll admit) and been slaughtered for it again - perhaps I'll just keep my views to myself in future, it's less stressful
