I assume Sky Sports will be all over it.

I hope we will have overhauled the away end tea bar by then.

You will have Neville banging out the tweets again😉 let's play em, it will be a good indicator of where were at, and then they will probably be gone out of our non league life.

Segregation..

Could be a record gate for a friendly against a fellow non league side when their circus rolls into town to be fair. Salford have been massively hyped online in recent days. What well get out of it from a football perspective Im not entirely sure but the free publicity not to be sniffed at. Like a modern day Crawley or Rushden and Diamonds but suspect it will end better than either of them two.
-
A very good point about this being a good marker.
Maybe we can nick a few salford fans who will see players
Playing for the shirt and manager..

Even when the pig crash lands their fans will have no interest in a proper club.

I don't really understand why people are getting so steamed up about Salford. We never had much to do with them before and never will much in the future. Let's leave worrying about them until we have to play in the same division again.

Yeah I tend to agree. I dont like the fact they had their colour changed from orange to red. The bbc series was interesting. I think the C92 approach to getting a league club is much more healthy for football than what happened to Wimbledon/MK Dons.
-
Never really had much issue with them myself to be honest. They were a brownfield site, in a promising catchment area (you could never surely call them a rugby league place like Warrington/St Helens etc)
Took the wind completely out of FCUM's sails which I quite enjoyed to be honest. Remember when FCUM set up and people were saying 'why not invest in an existing non league team'?
Seems you can't win at this level because nobody particularly likes money.

Because Alty fans must have at least one other club to whine about. Shaw Lane last season.
Just let them get on with it.

Get off that high horse mate, you weren't keen on Shaw Lane.
I don't like Salford, not because they have money, but because we don't have that spending power (on and off the pitch). We don't have the infrastructure they've built up either. They've done it in a very strong way, similar to fleetwood.
They've built on and off the pitch in equal measure.

I love a sound basis for dislike.

Sounds as though you like them to me.

Yep, classic. Not because they have money, but because we don't have the same money.
Leave 'em all at it for me. I don't particularly like the nouveau riche non league set either, but in truth that's what many on here have been crying out for, that injection of the magic wad that will make a difference on and off the pitch. Would we turn down the cash and the media exposure if we thought it was a long term prospect? I think not.
-
It's the media wankfest thats the main reason for my dislike
-
I want US to get mega rich, so that I can get off on the whingeing from fans of penniless Macclesfield.
-
I am not really bothered by Salford, I'm just utterly bemused at the idea of a Conference player being paid 4 grand a week. I think it's utterly bonkers and puts a lot of pressure on them to be challenging from the outset.
That said, I can honestly say I'd be loving it if Alty were in a position to be that financially competitive and pushing for a place in the football league after years of struggling in and out of lower leagues.
-

Its going to be inevitable though when you've got a rags to riches story backed by very high profile personalities synonymous with probably the biggest club brand in English football.
The media would have been fools not to get involved given all of that.
They're a freak club, if they go up then fair enough. I don't see them as a direct threat to us and our paths have barely crossed. If that sort of resource had been thrown at us then a lot of our fans would have been ecstatic.
-
If Salford didn't have the financial clout to buy better players to win the Conf North, then there's every chance that we would have spent more than a single season at EvoStik level.
So, as much as some people hate the idea of money in football, we really have nothing to be bitter about in this case.

Good point
-
If we can get Salford's cast offs like Hulme then I am ok with them!
-
My verdict on that game is that is was too windy and I wish I'd worn another jumper.
Oh, and am I right in thinking that was Salford reserves?

A bit of a mixture really. No sign of their 2 main centre halves from last year (Pierganni & Hogan) but Pond will probably start this year & he played, as did Wiseman at RB.
Would have been quite keen to see this £4k p/w lad but he wasn't around either.
For all of the half-chances we had, we didn't seem to have any clear-cut ones, I can't really put my finger on the problem apart from maybe we were trying to walk the ball in the net at times, and whilst the pitches are like bowling greens, JJ is always going to be a threat.
-
I'd put it down to the fact they defended quite well, as on the whole did we.
-
Even with the lack of goalmouth action thought it was a decent game. Felt for Jones scoring the og as he'd had a good game.
Can't see us signing Bannister or Downing, although Bannister did impress.
Don't know how many Salfords' were missing but they were bang average for a conference north team

Danny lloyd played, he scored 8 last season in league one and Gaffney who scored 7 in league one last season aswell as Pond from peterborough among others so i think they put out a relatively strong squad to be honest.
-
I thought it was a good workout against full time opposition that are favorites I believe to with the National league. A draw would have been the correct result in my opinion, we worked hard and if it wasn't for all the second half subs we could have pushed on for a win.
When we get in and around the box we do need to try and get our shots away more often.
-
Agreed. It was an even game until the disruption caused by the subs. Always thought a class part team can compete with an average full time team.
The difference in height and stature was obvious.
My takeaway from today was that we have a squad with depth. I'm encouraged. I feel we are in a much better situation than we were under Lee. He had some good players but no depth to roll out plan B . Bring on Leamington.
-
I thought we put up a good showing against a fancied team.
Lots of subs causes a loss of cohesion but I fully understand the reason why we made them.
I sometimes think JJ for all of his frightening speed sometimes falls short of an end product.

Well yeah, if he had a spot on end product he wouldn't be playing non league football!

I do realise that, I just think he could produce it a bit more often. I wasn't comparing him with Beckham

Well I know this isn't the most populated forum in the world, or even in the Non-League fraternity, but have had a look at Salford's this evening and the last post on it was 13 hours ago! No mention of today's game whatever. I suppose all the money in the world can't buy you a history and a fanbase like ours. I guess there's every chance the 90 plus fans who attended before the money came could be out tonight and haven't had chance to post!

I think its probably a combination of that, and also perhaps his teammates could anticipate his ball a bit better. He often gets to the box too quick for anyone to arrive on a pullback, meaning more often than not, he only has Jordan to find.
I actually think that part of the reason he's so much more effective on the left is because he can still try to do all of the above from the left byline, however he also has the added option of coming inside and having a go (or even laying square), something he can't do very well when cutting in off the right.
-
Wasn't there yesterday due to work commitments but going by the report on the website and comments on this forum
it sounds like we gave them a run for their MONEY. The true test starts on Saturday so bring it on. Was the report on
the website correct in saying Salford wore numberless shirts in an attempt to confuse spies from Leyton Orient?
-
They had no numbers on shirts, I assumed it's cos they're massive

Probably down to there wage bill, they could be hard up. ;) :D

JJ has more end product than Raheem Sterling.....I'm sold on him and quite happy to accept his blind alley runs for the actually surprisingly frequent moments of brilliance....watch the video of last season's goals for evidence of this and also how often Josh Hancock ghosts in completely unnoticed to score a goal in a game when you weren't sure if he'd played or not until you see his name on the scoresheet again!
I thought we matched what must have been a mix of highly paid players and triallists wanting a huge contract.....big shame for the own goal as a draw would not have been an unfair result...
-
Forget Salford what goes up as they say, lets get back to rubbishing Macc its what we do best and concentrate on getting a good start nxt Saturday

Which is why Sterling is an England international and Premier League winner and JJ is in the National League North. Lets not be silly eh!

Rubbishing Macc this season may be like shooting fish in a barrel. They're in for a record breaking season - first club to win promotion from the Conference and fall straight back again ;D
-
Comparing JJ or any other Altrincham player with a premier league player is absolute nonsense, they are both where they are based
on their footballing ability. The end product in each case goes in JJ's favour based on what you get for what you pay. As for
constantly knocking Macclesfield, let's just worry about ourselves and hope for a good season. Who knows, anything is possible
if we don't get too many injuries or suspensions this squad should be in the top half challenging for the play-offs.
-
Couple of players on double the money Sterling is on who he out performed
