I thought we'd win tonight, but from what I have heard, it was the manner of the victory that was the most impressive thing. Well done to everyone involved.

Great highlights. I'm thinking it was definitely handball by our right back, but I still can't see anything wrong with our goal.

Fair play to Grantham, who gave us a very good game today. They were at us from the off and in their number 10, had the game's most impressive player.
For us, neither full back looked particularly comfortable and I still don't have a great deal of confidence in our central midfield (though Jake did well in the second half) and JJ gets so many chances, but puts so very few of them away. On the plus side, Harrison was again brilliant, Peers worked bloody hard to cover the defensive deficiencies of our full back (motm???), Hancock busied himself about everywhere and Hulme carried on manfully against two half useful centre backs. Also, lovely to see James Poole back - a real player who keeps the ball on the deck.
We're better with Short, Richman and Poole in the team, but hey ho, up to PP and we won again!
I feel the ref made one really bad call for both teams, but the goal was good - having otherwise had a fabulous game, their keeper lost concentration and made a right cock up of it.
We're in the mix now. Roll on the next game.

Rowley and his family out of the club, nothing else is acceptable

Really? So they couldn't even continue in other capacities not related to boardroom decisions?

It's not a purge...
He has conducted nepotism to get his friends and family positions throughout the core of the football club - the whole thing needs ripping out

His son is manager of the reserves, his daughter in law is manager of community hall which his wife is a director of, his best pal now is kitman ffs do you think thats all a coincidence

No, I agree with you. I don't think it's a very healthy situation.

However, I also don't support some kind of purge of anyone with the name Rowley!

What are you going to do? Sack them? Ban them from volunteering?

Surely the issue has been that GR's decision making and leadership has been poor, not the commitment of him or his family to the club.

Wanting every Rowley out of the club starts to look vindictive.

Agree with all of that to be honest.

Cheers for that. Was at both games, but had forgotten - seems an absolute age ago.

Would take a 1 0 win every week, but I'm going for 10 in a week for the first time in years, 4 0. Also, I'd certainly play Poole if he's fit.

I think that the interesting thing is that we are currently projected to get a play off place...and we have not played anything like to our potential.

Well, given the amount of shots/corners/possession we've had recently, somebody was going to get a hiding. Let's see if we can exercise a bit of consistency now. Thought we'd win both matches and still do. Well done everybody.

Yep, agree with Jezza on this one. Hulme AND Amis for me, with Poole behind them. Would go so far as to omit the wingers altogether (too lightweight and predictable) and go with 3 centre mids (we are very ineffective there). We need to be more narrow and more direct and win this league ugly. With some small tweaks we will be okay; is PP brave enough to change things?

The first three lines of the post are perfectly fair unfortunately.

Another 10+ corners today and once again, most of the time, we can't even beat the first man. Shildon didn't have such problems.

We got exactly what we deserved. Yes, their number 2 should have been sent off twice in the first 20 minutes, but if you don't make chances, possession and set pieces count, then you are buggered. JJ alone had 6 strikes on goal.

Forgot to say, good luck to Shildon. Lovely set of fans, deserve a good cup run and I hope they get it.

« on: September 13, 2017, 01:43:26 PM »
How has the thread descended into this?

Taking nothing away from Workington who were the best side we have faced so far, but we beat ourselves last night. After Harrop's superb equaliser we were in the ascendancy, an incredibly soft penalty and red card within two minutes gave us a pretty grim task in even worse condidtions. That rain was unreal.

We showed some of the fight and stomach that won us a point at Nantwich, but Workington were clinical in the second half and punished us when we immediately pushed on for another after equalising. That was a bit naive. Players were acknowledged  at full time for their efforts - we know this is a work in progress. The lack of patience from some posters who weren't even at the game isn't even surprising on here anymore. It's a good job they aren't given a virtual full time reception via the forum, and all of this is coming from someone who gave the lads stick against Stafford.

Saving grace is not many sides around us come the end of the season will pick up points there either. No side is going to run away with this league and we can afford a couple of these results provided we defeat the fodder. Farsley game is huge.

Very good post.

My nightmare is that we will finish mid-table in the Evostik and some bugger will come out and say, "At least it's better than last season."

One of the few matches I thought would present a significant challenge before the season began. If they've got injury problems, I think we'll beat them, but a horrible journey nonetheless.
1-2
