Fleetwood Town have landed exciting FC Halifax Town wide player Jamie Vardy in a significant deal prior to the transfer window closing. The 24-year-old fired his side into the Blue Square Bet North last season – the club were crowned Evo-Stik Premier Division Champions after finishing 19 points clear of the rest of the pack.
The Sheffield-born frontman has been closely monitored by Preston North End manager Phil Brown and has also attracted advances from Burton Albion, Huddersfield Town, Crewe Alexandra and Stockport County.
Vardy left Stocksbridge Park Steels for the Shaymen in the summer of 2010. He plays out wide with pace to burst forward or can adopt an attacking role.
A goal on Tuesday evening – his third in three games – helped Halifax to a draw after being a goal down to Colwyn Bay.
Vardy is eligible to face York City at Highbury on Friday evening.
