Title: Torquay Match Thread
Post by: robininstockport on April 19, 2023, 12:28:41 PM
Last home of season so should be a good party atmosphere. Be joyful to relegate that smug T**t Gary Johnson.

No idea who's available for selection.

Alty 2-0 Torquay (2 own goals)

The only clean sheets for us are in the hospitality suite 😎

Parky in interview advised that the Utd trio had returned to Utd, so there's a few less to select.

He hopes to have Kyle back.

Going to be interesting team selection..

I would say so, I think he'll be back in pre-season. Not worth the risk

We should have beat them easily at Plainmoor, let’s get at them and help them on their way to the Southern Premier Div.

Move Perritt to RB, and put Ferguson in at CB (if he's fit again)

Can't get my head around why he even makes the bench let alone given game time . Does he play like Zinedine Zidane in training 🤭

I personally wouldn't have Osborne even in the squad, but he did actually do well when he came on, for his standard anyway.
That is the main issue, when he plays well he still does sweet FA towards changing a game. Doesn't score, doesn't tackle, I could go on.
To move forward we need much better and he will be taking a decent wage. He would be one of the first to be released, doesn't impact from the bench so not needed if we want to progress.

Got a horrible niggling feeling but Mrs S says she's feeling very confident and predicting a resounding Alty performance.
As always, let's hope the wife is right (as usual) 😊

Just got home. We were lucky to get a draw there without a natural number ten and no wingers until two subbed on late on.
Great goal by Linney and a big sigh of relief when Goodson slotted home the pen!
Ref was poor.

Massive rebuild needed

Absolute rubbish. If football has taught us anything, it's that tiny tweaks can have massive impact.

The players had the stuffing knocked out of them after the Trophy semi, the manager has probably been experimenting more than he would, and we're heading into next season with a much more solid base level than the one we came into the season with.

It's sh*t watching at the moment, granted - but will have zero bearing on the outcome of next season.

The one thing I will say, however - is an experienced, commanding goalkeeper is the priority.
Title: Re: Torquay Match Thread
Post by: Alty Bri on April 22, 2023, 06:36:47 PM
We 100% need a rebuild in the heart of defence - surely we all can agree on that! A goalkeeper, yes without a shadow of a doubt (though I doubt Parky will do that).

And of course, up top. In Linney and Goodson we have excellent young players to build around but we are short of width on either side

So, it's positional rebuild we need rather than total rebuild.

Osborne had the best game I've seen from him in a very long time. Playing for a contract perhaps.

I would want bring in :

1.An experienced goalkeeper who has played at a higher level. His age doesn't matter, but he has to command his box and organize his defenders properly.

2. A similarly experienced number 10.

3. An quick winger with goals in his locker.

I believe that the right goalkeeper will solve a lot of our defensive frailties.

Agree about the keeper situation, if someone as good as Tommo had come in we would have been top half this season. Glad it is looking likely that Torquay are doomed. Horrible club
