Title: Crowell Goes
Post by: OldhamAlty on October 29, 2010, 08:17:38 PM
From main site:

Altrincham FC and midfielder Matty Crowell have decided on a parting of the ways after the Welshman's second spell at the club ended with 7(+2) appearances to add to the 5 games he started last season before he left to play football on Australia. This time around, Matty had been commuting from South Wales to train and play for Altrincham. This arrangement meant that Matty has felt he has not been able to be at his best on the pitch and so he and the club have decided to go their separate ways. Altrincham FC thanks Matty for his efforts and the commitment that he showed in making the long journeys to Altrincham and wishes him the best for the future.

Bit gutted, a quality player but never got going on his second spell, wish he lived up here and was given more time. Positive is that we have Hewson who should become a regular !!! we need a centre back and striker ASAP !!!!

1st time round looked decent sadly not the same this season and has become surplus to requirements, i wish him every success in the future but there is no doubt this is the best move for both parties, Thanks for your efforts Matt.

It's a shame that this arrangement hasn't worked out but I wish Matt all the best for the future.

It seems like we're clearing the decks in order to pave the way for one or two new faces. Hopefully we'll hear something along these lines very soon.

I suspect it suited everyone that he left. We now have an extra player's wages to dish out and he doesn't have to tire himself dragging up the country only to put in sh*t performances.

I firmly believe he wanted to play well for us, but the commute probably had an effect both physically and mentally, so he wasn't up to it.

Best of luck to him for the future.

I feel it's a shame he's gone as he is one of the better players and fair do's to the bloke driving all that distance.

Better players? Have you seen any games this season?!

I assume that, in the weeks and months to come, some of our fans will start to refer to him as the worst player we've ever had. Just to be consistent.

"rats leaving a sinking ship" ?? More a case of a manager remoulding a team that was a million miles away from being a bsp outfit,im sure some others would have been flirted aswell if they werent on contracts.Ken is obviously working hard on a rebuilding job,to try and give us at least a fighting chance of staying up.Good luck to matt, but obviously kenny feels his wages and hotel costs will be better spent elsewhere

Unfortunately he was nowhere near the same player as last season - and I firmly believe that was due to not being paired with Tom Kearney.

Good luck for the future Matty - you'll come good again I'm sure.

It was like a long distance relationship  between Alty & Crowell -  they rarely work out!

Good luck to Matty wherever he ends up.

Agree entirely with this Phil - as a number of other contributors have also suggested as the season has moved on

Good luck Matty. Shame it didn't work out as I genuinely believe the guy has talent.

Not sure thats connected to an unconvincing player being released by our own choice?

If we want to give ourselves any chance of improving we need new faces.  To get new faces, old faces have to go.

For me, not many of the old faces could be too disappointed is they got shipped out, as they are being one by one.

Thanks to Matt Crowell for making the effort..sorry it didnt work out.  Best comment I ever heard about him was that his reputation got better each week after he left last time.

I imagine he will sign for Forest Green or Bath and be absolutely unstoppable for them....

On a separate note, great goal against Barrow away last season. Shame he hasn't been able to replicate those 5 games from the start of last season, it's probably the bad haircut.

It was only a matter of time really, many thanks for making the effort travelling from South Wales but it clearly wasn't working. Hope he finds a club nearer home.

I honestly think without the long range driving to each game/training session, he would have been a much better player for us and in saying that I could see him easily fitting in to a BSB Premier club nearer to home. Thanks anyway Matt for your remarkable efforts and I really hope you find a new club soon.
