bum

This is really rubbish news.
I thought we could give the Trophy a proper go this year.
Best of luck to Havant & Waterlooville I guess.
-
Wow, gutted.

All the cancellations at all levels is now making the season and elite sport continuing a farce now. Time to seriously consider the merits of carrying on..

No consistency. Shrewsbury allowed to reschedule in the FA Cup v Southanmpton.
-
Statistically our best-ever season in the Trophy - a 100% win record.
-
You do know we have won it twice right? ;)

Funnily enough I do. And we drew at least one match in each of those campaigns. You knew that, right? :o

Haha fair play Leon, you've got me there ;D
Put it down to lack of mental stimulation during lockdown :o

Yer not wrong.

Bit gutted but as last seasons final hasn't been played yet i doubt this seasons' will be completed any time soon.
Should have scheduled Trophy to have been played after leagues had finished, is time allowed.

It’s all about money.
Looks like two year’s final on the same day

Why are we forfeiting the tie when Havant have four players out with covid?
-
Don't know the circumstances of their covid cases but H&W are now playing a league match tomorrow so that shows they would have been able to fulfil the Trophy tie. Presumably the rest of their squad is not required to self-isolate under the covid protocols whereas our entire squad is.

I noticed their last scheduled game was postponed.

it’s unfortunate we get a negative test when it’s a cup game and not a league fixture. We’re well in front with games played in the league and wouldn’t have been a great hardship to move a fixture until later on. Oh well, that’s life. Hope we can get enough games played by everyone to reach PPG at least. It’d be a great shame and a lot of wasted time and effort if the season was scrapped.

This stinks in my opinion

Using your detailed knowledge of the particular circumstances of each club, please explain why.

i Do not blame the clubs its the FA rules that are at fault
-
The rearranged fixture didn't help them - lost 1-2 to Eastbourne (remember them ?)
-
Don't worry about not getting to Wembley in the FA trophy 🏆, we'll be there in the play off final instead! 😉
😂😂

The fevered celebrations after Hampson's goal last week don't look that sensible now.
-
If we are all being completely honest, playing football at all with the virus raging out of control is a high risk activity. It is a contact sport. On this basis, it's a lottery which clubs are and aren't impacted and it seems to me most clubs will be impacted at some point as long as the games keep on being played.
Its just plain bad luck it hit us before the Trophy game, but I don't believe it would have been a priority for us - consolidating and attaining a respectable, stable footing in the National League is. Just imagine how gutting it would have been had we got to Wembley for the first time since 1986, and none of us could go because it was being played behind closed doors.
-
As we have all said, the timing of this was a real shame.
Now I know this is a left of field comment, but say most of the squad have come into contact with the player who tested positive and thereby developed asymptomatic corona virus, would this not massively reduce the chances of this happening again later in the season? Wild speculation I know... but a potential silver lining?
-
Blimey, that's a stretch Freddie :D
-
How did the positive result become known ie via club testing or an individual test?
-
The fevered celebrations after Hampson's goal last week don't look that sensible now.
As usual football is just getting a kicking due to it's status as the no 1 sport. If this isn't the case why was Rugby Union allowed to be played at any time during the pandemic with scrums, rucks and mauls all integral parts of the game, involving much more close physical contact than 3 or 4 goal celebrations per game in football? Stringent and regular testing of players is the key point here - imho this should've been tied to the Govt funding package. Instead we have this pathetic distraction tactic from panicked politicians already fearful of the inevitable inquiries into their management of the crisis.

Same reason it was considered too dangerous for us to watch the Barnton match (but not too dangerous for Chester/Southport/FC Utd/ Dagenham+Redbridge supporters to watch their team)?

Any news of how many of our squad/staff were feeling ill from a virus? Anyone seriously fear for their wellbeing?
Just wondering like...

It's a sh*tshow. Is that detailed enough?
Sorry but I'm getting really fed up of our season being wrecked. And I can imagine how South Shields feel...

Ah that virus that we're not supposed to discuss on the Altrincham fc first team forum
Guarantee it'll be back in control come the summer, same as last year (if it was ever out of control...)
