What are our fans opinions about new positions and players for the January transfer window.

Hope we don't lose any players.

Thoughts??

We could do with a central midfielder and a left back if Eddie Jones isnt back soon, also a wide player if Newby isnt staying ?

The only position to fill is left wing IF Alex returns to Colchester. Where was Ali today for Halifax?

Kossy won’t get back to his best, certainly out wide.

Crankshaw out for the season and Newby returning.

No idea where Donawa is….?

So we will defo need another wide player.

If Donawa isn’t in the Manager’s mind, then I think we need another RB. Banks is average.

We 100% need LB cover.

Would love to have Maxi back on loan.

Man U U18s have a 16 year old left back called Harry Amass who is meant to be very highly regarded, although they might want him to have another season in the U18s before they loan him out.

Maxi Oyedele will probably be beyond us now that he's moved up to the U21's, but there's a few central midfielders in  the U18s that could fit the bill.

Will we find out today whether Newby is staying or not?
I notice Colchester have just sacked their manager. What effect will that have on the decision? (given that they're only about nine places above us in the pecking order)

Harry Amass and Shea Lacey would be interesting additions.

Chance for Rooney then? Given that he's just been flirted.
Perhaps he'll hold out for Salford to be with his mates 😉

Harry Amass and Shea Lacey would be interesting additions.

What's your knowledge like of United's youth setup? Admittedly mine is very limited! - but from what I understand, both of those lads are considered as especially promising. Those two and the U18s captain Finley McAllister would be strong on paper, but Amass can only play left back (which is a very short term need), Lacey is a left footed right winger (we have two of those!) and McAllister is more of a holding mid.

There's a right back called James Nolan that regularly covers at left back - perhaps that would be more prudent given he could cover for Eddy and then move to the right if he's absolute mustard?

There's a centre half called Louis Jackson who fits the bill, Scotland youth international and has trained with the forst team - but do we have a need in the area? Someone quality to partner Baines?

There's a central midfielder who has been recovering from an ACL injury called Ruben Curley, who can cover for Isaac and Elliott but crucially can do so at No10 too, like Maxi did.

There's a left winger called Ethan Williams who has posted impressive G/A stats and has bounced between the U18s and the U21s - if he's available I can understand if we've been dragging our heels on Alex Newby as we already have five permanent wingers on the books, Alex would be a sixth.

Finally(!) there's another Ethan - Ethan Wheatley - who is a centre forward with impressive goal stats - but so did Joe Hugill and at a higher level (U21s), which didn't translate to goals here.

Have we been dragging our heels on Newby?
There's just been no news. Especially as Colchester have sacked their manager.
Signing him up for at least the rest of the season would be the best option imho.

I'm sure we might not have been - his loan is still in progress and that might possibly be the case until the end of the month, at which point we'll make a proper call on it.

If he's keen on an 18 month deal (which you'd assume he is), that would mean a hell of a lot of wingers on our books when maybe taking a work experience lad might be cheaper.

I'm second guessing the management here, we might not end up taking anyone from United if the management team don't think it's needed.

I believe Newbys loan period expired today, the 2nd, but I could be wrong 🙄

PS. Also, with the very tough January schedule, I don't think it's the right time to try to integrate several temporary incomers.

I definitely agree partially with that - it's about finding the right balance between freshening things up in some key positions whilst recognising this team has got us to where we are already.

For me, the first priority should be some contract extensions in any case - all the more reason why I adore Isaac Marriott - as he signed his last year, when everyone else buggered off.
