The last time we got to the 2nd round this was the team:
Deasy: Sinnot, Leather, Heathcote, Griffin: Lawrie, Richman, Moult, Crowther: Rankine, Reeves
Subs: Clee, Bowerman, Swift, Cain, Williams, Davis, Stouppus
Today: 1. Tony THOMPSON, 2. Shaun DENSMORE, 3. Andy WHITE, 4. James JONES, 5. Tom HANNIGAN, 6. Jake MOULT (c), 7. John JOHNSTON, 8. Sean WILLIAMS, 9. Jordan HULME, 10. Josh HANCOCK, 11. Tom PEERS. Subs: 12. Max HARROP, 14. Connor HAMPSON, 15. Toby MULLARKEY, 16. Simon RICHMAN, 20. Joel TORRANCE (gk).
I think in every position we are better now, notably a much stronger subs bench.
We are in decent shape, are we not?

Agreed. On paper the 2015 vintage is a good bunch of players but key changes to personnel from previous season meant they never did gel as a team - and the rest really is history.
4 years on, whilst it has been a brutal journey, we are on the up again, with the best manager IMHO since 80s Kingy, and a team of talented lads who will all take a bullet for each other and the club. The very fact that they were so distraught tells me they have the passion, talent and the grit to storm the league this season - with perhaps a nice diversion of a really good Trophy run as well.

We could be contenders. Conf National teams won't fancy us one bit!

George Bowerman!
What a disaster he was
-
Interesting to note the career trajectories of the 5 youth/reserve graduates present in that squad.
Heathcote plays for Widnes, Cain is at 1874 Northwich, Davis still plays for the reserves where Swift is his manager. Stouppus doesn't appear to play at all.

We have had plenty of 'George Bowermans' over the last 15 years during the times we were in Conf National.......We had almost an entire team of them during the CN relegation season !!
I guess it has to be, when as a club you need to take a punt on a 'promising' player every so often. Seems to have been a lot of wingers from memory

We've had a lot of promising wingers that haven't lived up to their potential... Ryan Crowther being one such example.
That Watmore lad was alright though.

Watching Reevsies goal against Barnsley over again recently, there were two moments of history in the build up:
- Ryan Crowther made a tackle and then
- Ryan Crowther unleashed an on target shot
From which Damien scored
I was unaware that Crowther had done either thing in his Alty career

Still think we'd of been better of with Lesley

We'd been better off with Peter Glaze.

Justin Bowler / Blake Norton

Lee Elam
Brian Smikle

Who was the lad from Wythenshawe during Heathcote’s tenure? He only played a few games I think. Looked promising but didn’t get much of a look in. Think his first game he unfortunately passed it back to the opposition centre forward and they scored.

Danny Heffernan? He ended up playing professionally believe it or not!
-
Wasn’t Danny Heffernan. He was one of those who joined us to “put themselves in the shop window” if I remember correctly.
-
Remember Brian Smikle scored an absolute belter against Gloucester in a night match in 13/14 season. He came with an immaculate pedigree - 200 plus appearances in the league for Kiddy and Cheltenham - but he never quite got going at Alty and disappeared before the season was half way through. He is now playing Evesham United in the Southern League Div 1 South.
Ryan Crowther was pretty talented as well, but spent most of his time with us backing off from tackles and otherwise looking like he'd rather be anywhere else than playing footie for us. I remember one match when he got the bollocking of his life from Lee Sinnott while he was still on the pitch as he didn't want to run down the left wing because he thought it looked icy! to be fair he has a point. Seem to remember he scored a worldy for us as well, but cannot remember who against, or if my memory is distorting the Barnsley near miss.

Astley Mullholland, Peter Doran, Tejal Ross-Thaker, Antonio Bryan?
-
All the above worth a mention, but George Bowerman though.
FFS
-
think he’d been at city as a youth. Dark skinned. Fast and tricky. Had short hair with a line shaved into it.
-
Jamie Phoenix, loanee. Absolute shocker. Made a couple of performances then got himself sent off.
-
Joe Mwasile anyone? I seem to remember Brian calling him Joe Pasquale in commentary.
-
Carlos Logan! ::) ::) ::)
-
That’s the fella!!!
-
Bloody hell yes, Carlos Logan!
