Altrincham 3-1 Stalybridge

Lawrie 85

Att: 897 (189 away)

A much closer game than the scoreline suggests.

Tad on the high side that I reckon.  Since they beat us at their place on the 22nd October, they have gained 14 points from a possible 36 and haven't won a league game for nearly two months.

Yeah yeah kiss of death but heh we are in better form for sure.

2-1 (Reeves pen, Redshaw)

Both goals in the last ten minutes after we've trailed for over an hour.

We are the Calpol of football, so I'm expecting defeat. However, play like we have for most of the season at Moss Lane and we will win the game.

2-3 (Reeves, Lawrie) Att 779

I'm kind of tempted into thinking that we'll win now that we looked to have put ourselves out of the play off race a bit and this will be an ultimately futile win, a good one as well like a 4-1 job, to keep up winning at home but then we'll balls it up away at Corby before sorting out Blyth and Hinckley at home.

But as it is, I've got that nagging feeling that it'll be one of those where our defensive frailties cost us one to many and we lose to a team that we should've beaten. Kind of like we're not always going to win at home and this is that particular time.

Bit of a toss up really but the pessimist in me always wins...

Goals at both ends definitely, I'd plump for 3-2 Alty. Hopefully after all the money we've put into Tameside football this season we'll finally see a decent support behind the goal at the Chequers End. I bet they don't bring more than 150 though.

Alty in a range from 2 - 6 Stalybridge 3 or 4

So three chances for Stlaybridge to win, 2 chances for a draw and 5 chances for an Alty win.

I am not sure we have won a match 6-4 in my lifetime.

At Moss Lane off the top of my head:

2-3 Woking  (from 2-0 up, and then the easy chants)
3-3 Kettering (twice)
4-3 Leek Town (from 3-0 down)
5-3 Macclesfield
6-3 Worcester (JR scores 5)
2-4 Grays Athletic (in the Trophy)
3-4 Colwyn Bay (my only match this season)
4-4 best I can do is at Hyde in the CSC (wins on away goals)
5-4 Mossley (from 4-1 down)
6-4 a 6-4 loss at Morecambe but I do not remember a 6-4 win!

We've won 7-4 at home to Nuneaton Borough (not the current incarnation in 1985) though and lost 3-7 at home to Slough in 1992 as well as beating Merthyr 9-2 of course.

That Macclesfield game you refer to was New Years Day 1991. I stand to be corrected but didn't we give them a real leathering that day and it should've been 5-2 but they got a late goal that made it look a closer game than it really was?

To be fair, he has partly forgotten it himself - pretty sure the night in question was a Tuesday, followed by Northwich at home on the Thursday.
